Krawiecki hired as city attorney

Former city attorney Edward Krawiecki, Jr has his old job back.
Mayor Art Ward got the unanimous backing of city councilors to install the former state House minority leader as the city's top lawyer, a post he held during former Mayor William Stortz's tenure.
Ward won backing to hire Tom Conlin as a full-time city lawyer, replacing Ann Baldwin, who retired last month.
Only city Councilor Kate Matthews opposed hiring Conlin. She said the city should advertise the job and make sure the best person is tapped for the $87,000-a-year job.
I'll have more on it later.

Thank you Kate!

is this the same Conlin that is partners with Bill Hamzy? if so it should come as no surprise that Matthews voted against it... it's amazing that she supported Ed.

I think we're starting to see Kate's true shade of blue begin to come through. What a partisan hack!

Didn't anyone tell Kate to keep her mouth shut and just do as she's told?

Conlin thanks her too - not.

I agree with Thank You Kate!! I hope everybody sees the video tape of someone who is obviously intelligent & articulate giving reasons why this or any hire shouldn't be a slam dunk. She points out that this position is paid $500,000 of salary & benefits over the 5 year appointment. Bravo Kate!! Maybe she is the breath of fresh air we've been looking for in Bristol!!

Kate...another one of Zoppos puppets.

There is more to this than Conlin.

Watch for other moves that possibly affect downtown and the BDDC.

Matthews is way in over her head.

And Cockayne isn't one of Mocabees puppets?

If Ellen was mayor she (and her pack of cronies like Alan Marxist and Johnnie Lod) of course would have encouraged Matthews to vote for whomever they felt "the urge" to pick.

Lat time I checked Atty Conlin did apply for the job when it was posted months ago. Not sure what Kate Matthews is talking about? Steve, could you please look into weather that position was posted or not. My understanding is that all openings need to be posted internally first then they are open to the public if no one is interested internally.

Spoke with two attorneys who applied for positions with the city: the mayor never gor back to either of them.

The big dissapointment is Dave Mills. He has been talking about performance reviews and job descriptions. What is his first big vote. Give him the job dont set any job desctiption or performance review. Just happined to be Mocababy's buddy so you cant go against R's. Good to see Dave stand up for the city.

So the lawyer on the council thinks that investing in a search to ge the best qualified person is a puppet. The football coach plays for the team. The Mad Dog said he has seen Tom's work for and is willing to give him the $500,000 paycheck but not bie on $12,000 for 2 arces to add to the hoppers. The ward says because he has been the attorney in Plymouth (Hamzy's) best friend is Mayor we need not look at anyone else. And Block head just is a ward bobble head dog. McStoneless just gets along to go along. Kate I give you credit just dont think you can last long with the back stabbers

Do you think that Krawiecki will now get the CLP rate charge issue resolved?

Baldwin and Lacey couldn't.

No one applied for Ann Baldwin's job (full time, with benefits). What those people applied for was Jeff Steeg's old job (part time, $25,000 per year with no benefits). Kate's point was that if Baldwin's job had been posted, it would have attracted a completely different class of applicant, and she's right. Ward screwed up and the City Council should have had the balls to say so. Well done, Kate.

4:52 - shouldn't be too hard for anyone, even lawyers, to be able to realize that they weren't picked for the job - might be the reason that they want a city job, don't have to worry about thinking.

I am surprised that you have not used Anarchy to describe this administration, but if and when youdo, I would agree with you.

Yessiree Art, real open government!

HAH!

Odin:

What "class" do you associate Colin with? As far as city government goes, Ed K and Conlin are high class in my opinion.

In general, Tom Conlin is the epitome of class, unlike many of the Bristol Democrats including yourself.

An Kate Matthews has become part of yours and Ellen's partisan, "hate everything with an R in front of it", political local-yokel class.

It's to bad as a lawyer Matthews cna't think or speak for herself.

It's a well know fact Zoppo ran her campaign. Now, Matthews is Zoppo's little lap dog.

Keep up the good work Matthews...you will go down in flames just like Zoppo did.

Ward, watch your back....Matthews will stick a knife in it.....but only after Zoppo tells her it's ok

Matthews I have a question,

You said no to Conlin because the job was not posted, then why did you say yes to Krawiecki since that job was not posted?

Can't have it both way's Katy! Either post both or post none.

Is it because you wanted your friend to get the job? In for one month and trying to bring your friend it.

Now go ask Zoppo what to do!!

Hey Kate...stop listening to Ellen and that crowd of jerks. It'll come back to bite you..just like it did to her.

Any position - especially one this important should be posted so that we have the most qualified field of applicants avaiable for our choice.
The old boys network and ronyism has to go!

Odin said...

8:57 AM - I did not mean to imply that Tom Conlin is anything less than a first-class gentleman and attorney, but I can see how my words could be taken that way. What I meant was that one group (better word) of people are looking for part time work, and a different group of people are looking for full time employment.

Odin said...

PS to 8:57 am:

And why do you say that Matthews voted against Conlin just because he's a Republican? She is brand new to politics and there is nothing in her history to indicate that kind of partisanship.

what was Ellen, oops, Kate thinking? evidently, not.

Odin said...

Man, you Zoppo-phobes wouldn't know what to think about nuanced political issues if Ellen ever left town. In your world the sun rises and sets on her.

Now ED and his wife could live large and take a trip on the new HARLEY.ONLY IN AMERICA.

Congratulations Attorney Krawiecki. Maybe now we can have some order... oh and the fact it will make Rosenthal nuts!

Kate: Don't listen to any of these posters. Do what you feel is right. Every time any of Ward's lackeys get nervous, they pull out the "Ellen puppet" card, which is totally ridiculous and is all they have! Words are all they can do to protect their "chosen one" because it's clear they have no facts to back up anything they say. You are not Ellen and they know it. You are a very good people person with lots of knowledge and that scares them so they must attack. Ignore them because they are the ignorant ones.

maybe, maybe? said...

4:12 - now if we only had that opportunity, think that you could arrange it - real soon?

December 11, 2009 6:56 AM:

Actually I'm not a Ward "lackey" (albeit I'm glad he beat Ellen) and I'm one of the posters who believes she's "in bed" (figuratively) with Ellen and that crowd. I base this on the fact that I am witness to her receiving directions from Ellen during the campaign.
I'm sure Ms. Matthews is intelligent and makes most of her decisions (and most likley is a liberal). But I caution her as to whom she takes advice from.

Anonymous said...

And Cockayne and Mills don't take direction from Mocabee and his gang?

Anonymous said...

"Cockayne and Mills don't take direction from..."

-You must be joking. Come on. Neither of the two aformentioned gentlemen would be wise to do so (looking at the track record of Mocabee and "his gang"). Mills and Cockayne are definately their own men.
