BHA should start buying the 2 and 3 family homes in the west end. They would be better land lords then the ones that own those properties now.

What they are not telling you is that while they are waiting to secure funding, there has been 10 or more units empty for well over a year. They refuse to rent them out. Even though there are 2500 people on the housing waiting list in Bristol. When I asked why (earlier this year on theblog) I was basically told that it's because of the upcoming renovations and that they want the apartments empty to make it easier. SO many people are in need of assistance and housing in these rough economic times. I find it unethical to not have every single unit filled. They are also failing to mention that more than half the units will be privately rented a full retail value and the rest Section 8. BHA isn't doing their job by providing affordable housing to those that need it most. Not everyone on Section 8 is a bum folks. Alot have jobs, work 40+ hours and contribute to our society. They need a hand up, not a hand out. CHFA should fire BHA and get someone else to manage it. Not to mention all the shady stuff going on at BHA Board meetings...secretive raises etc. Something is not on the up & up in my humble opinion
Nothing is on the up & up. The units that are not for rent are because I would not even put my grandmother in there. They are in desperate need of repair. You should now the facts before you make assumptions.

You write, like you, know more than any of us in the community. Are you a comissioner? if so, how come you are going, out on a limb, to discredit what BHA folks are doing? maybe you are a disgruntal employee? are you? in any case that would be a sad story....loyalty is one of the best assets in any compamy!

The units are not in need of repair. That's a story that has been spun by BHA for almost two years. And any repairs that may exist, exist because of the cutbacks in maintenance staff.

11:05, No I don't have anything to do with BHA at all. However I did live there for 18 years of my life. And I know PLENTY of people that are hurting right now that are in need of affordable housing. It just isn't right that BHA is holding out on renting the units and that they are not telling the real story. Any info I have is from an earlier post on this blog as well as info I know from employees and residents. BHA should just keep in mind that the way they do thier job is being watched....and we(the citizens) are not stupid, so quit trying to pull the woll over our eyes!
