McCain's concession speech is terrific

What a gracious and decent address by John McCain tonight.

Not a Mccain supporter but much agreed.

It was a good speech. He would have done better in the election if he hadn't chosen Palin. She was his downfall.

Also not a McCain supporter, also agree that it was a great speech. THAT was the John McCain that I could have supported; not the one who morphed into a person who wanted it so badly, he began to fall apart.

That speech was the real John MCcain - spoken from the heart and sincere.
If he had stopped pandering to the far right and focused instead on his more moderate positions, he may have attracted enough independent voters and crossover democrats to win. His decision to pick ultra-neocon end-timer Sarah Palin was foolish, he already had the nomination and no republican was going to crossover and vote democrat no matter what. The decision to pick an attractive woman wasn't a bad idea per-se, but once she opened her mouth she chased awayj ust about every independent voter with half a brain. The other mistake he made was to align himself with political poison (Joe Lieberman). Joe abandoned the democrats, no chance of attracting any crossovers with that move.

The fact is that Palin bumped McCain up in the polls, and many of their supporters wished she was the presidential candidate. She frightened the Obama crowd because of the huge positive response she got, and they have been smearing her ever since. But if she wants to, she'll be back.

I would hate to see how bad he would have done without that bump. I seriously doubt she helped him at all with any independent or crossover voters, which he needed to win. Democrats didn't smear her, her words exposed her and independents went overwhelmingly for Obama.

What words? Democrats have such a great fear of her promise for the Republican party. YOUR fear is showing. If not, you would be ignoring Palin in your rejoicing about "The Messiah."

You betcha! ;)

Promise of what? A dead moose in every freezer?... or a bridge to Russia.

Palin did not promise anything for your freezer or a bridge to Russia. She never said she could see Russia from her house, either.

Obama, however, promised to take your money and spread it around, and that's okay? His bad judgements (I'm being generous here) concerning who his friends and associates are, and his hatred of our Constitution are okay? His wife's thesis statements are okay? His desire for his own civilian police force (like Hitler's) is okay? Voters slept through this campaign, and we will be suffering for four years.

Hopefully, if we are allowed to have an election in 2012, Sarah Palin will be back, offering her real American ideals, hard work, and traditional values. By then voters will jump at the chance to elect her.

Palin has no chance. Republicans already see her as a threat. She actually believes in some of the populist "joe the plumber" and "reign in spending" pandering that the republicans use to try to get votes and are trying to paint her as a whacko(pretty easy paint job). All the neo-con propaganda you just spewed is just that - none of it is credible at all but you have the right to believe anything you want. Good luck with all that.

11:28 Whacko? Talk about unsubstantiated name-calling! And you refuse to listen to the facts on Obama. Our nation's only hope is that your guy wakes up when he feels the weight of the Presidency on his shoulders. He may end up leaning much more to the conservative side than he did during the campaign.

McCain's speech WAS terrific. Too bad people didn't wake up a little earlier...all of his speeches were good. He's even a real American.

"And you refuse to listen to the facts on Obama."

Listened to it read it researched it, debunked all of it including the one referred to in the post about "real American". I guess that one refers the "facts" about Obama's birth certificate. He was born in the USA. McCain by the way was born in Panama.

"He may end up leaning much more to the conservative side"

That was the whole point of my first post. Pandering to the far right is what cost Mc Cain the election. He built his whole career around being a maverick, bucking the far right when his moderate principles dictated, to the point that the republican party, including talking heads like Limbaugh actively campaigned against his nomination. Once he got the nomination, there was no need to attract more republican voters, I don't think a single republican would ever cross over to the democrats. He needed to appeal to independents, instead he alienated them with his pick of Palin. That contributed greatly to his loss.

More Palin-smearing from the left. Boy, she really has got you scared!

"I didn't do all this for naught."

Actually I'm thinking of sending her a parting gift and a thank you note for helping to secure presidency for the democrats. She may go down in history as an unwitting hero who helped restore our constitution and our standing in the world as a beacon of freedom and hope, instead of imperialism and preemptive aggression.

We're not a beacon for anyone except terrorists now.

"We're not a beacon for anyone except terrorists now."

This hateful divisive fear mongering is another reason the republicans were decimated at the polls. 9/11 happened on Bush's watch. More Americans have died in "the war on terror" than perished in that attack. The American people have had enough! The anvil of 8 years of the incompetence of Bush and the evil of Cheney have been lifted from our shoulders. What a relief!

Time will tell, 12:19.

What you call hateful divisive fear mongering is actually the truth.

The attacks on our own soil by terrorists were well planned, well in advance of Bush's presidency. It was all being mapped out and arranged while Clinton was busy doing his molesting in the Oval Office. But you'll of course blame the Republican, clean-as-a-whistle, not-impeached president.

Your VP-elect Biden has made the prediction: Obama will be tested. In other words, Obama has made us a beacon for terrorists. Unless you're giving up on Biden already...

"The attacks on our own soil by terrorists were well planned, well in advance of Bush's presidency."

To follow your logic, if Obama is tested, it will be George Bush's fault.

"Obama will be tested."

Bush was tested and he has failed miserably. Anyone who has complained about his policies has been labeled by the far right as unAmerican or unpatriotic. That type of ultra-patriotism rhetoric borders on fascism. Obama hasn't even been sworn in yet and you are badmouthing him. Your arguments make no sense at all. Republicans lost. Get over it.

Bush has been successful...we have not been attacked again. I hope that Obama is as successful, but he is seen as weak by our enemies, so it will be difficult.

"Bush has been successful..."

Let's see what we have - almost 4000 brave souls dead, most killed in an ill-advised invasion, a second war poorly executed (by leaders, not the brave men on the ground) the stated main objective(finding Bin Laden) unaccomplished and our standing in the world's eyes tarnished. If that is successful, don't bother pointing out his failures.

The failure of the Bush administration (I support our troops efforts) to quell the insurgency in Iraq can't be seen as a sign of military strength.
Bush and Cheney have made many new enemies with their preemptive agression policy. Hopefully Obama will change that.

We have made a lot of progress in Iraq. There are no more torture chambers or WMDs, and their murderous leader is gone. The people are grateful, but you don't hear much about that unless you know some one who has served there.

Any time you take a stand you make enemies. But dislike of the US is pretty much based on jealousy, IMHO.

Unfortunately, Obama's lack of experience will make us vulnerable. We will also be weakened by a worsening economy under his policies. A perfect storm...
