Regarding the diminishing number of comments

For those who wonder why there are fewer comments, the reason is simple: I'm killing them.
I'm wiping out those that are mean-spirited, lacking any factual base or simply adding nothing at all to the discussion of the issue at hand. That doesn't mean I approve of all the ones that get through -- in fact, some of them make me cringe -- but I don't want what might be the last weeks of the Press to be filled with more hateful crap from anonymous pinheads.
I'm more likely to let through comments, by the way, from people who give a name or at least a screen name than those that are simply anonymous.

Steve;

About time you REFUSED to accept comments from chicken hearted Vituperrious anonymous commentators ! I have left a couple of comments, only to have disparaging personal remarks made by these jerks who want to hide their identities. This will be my final comment !

Or those that have been crucified by the city leaders for expressing a truthful yet contrary opinion .

I thought people were just tired of postings related to the BP closing and declined comment.

Obviously you've got the right to censor, Steve, but I hope you're not too restrictive. It would be really boring to have all the same opinions and viewpoints on here.

Don't want to miss anything spoken by ATHENA!

Steve,

I'm glad to see that you've shown your true colors: JRC. You are a coward who claims to be Mr. Rah Rah Journalism, but then as soon as you are faced with comments you don't like or agree with, like my recent ones that you blocked, you turn into the Chinese gov't. You, are JRC. That is what JRC does, and that is why you are sinking with JRC. I have been ashamed at your crybaby posts about saving your precious newspaper, but this pathetic decision to ban certain comments sheds a whole new, shameful light on you. JRC should not be firing you, it should be promoting you, because you are now clearly one of them. I will continue to write, even if you are too gutless to allow others to, heaven forbid, see my comments.

Free speech still exists. Any of you are free to start your own blog. Heck, I might even read it.
And, jelenic, I actually appreciate your comments.

Right on, Steve. Clean up the comments and this blog will be MUCH better!

You GO,Steve!

Where is he supposed to go, Tim? Oh, I know! FAR AWAY FROM YOU!!!

Right on, Steve. Clean up the comments and this blog will be one-sided and Stepford-ish. Maybe you should start printing out the banned comments and burning them in a bonfire.

You're doing the right thing. The posts you are editing add nothing to the public discourse. The exchange of ideas is what this blog is supposed to be about. Congratulations.

7:33AM So you're suggesting Steve should allow the constant barage of unsubstanciated, unwarranted,at times libelous and venomous crap you want posted while you cower behind a curtain of anonymity like a little coward? My guess is if you really had any confirmation or could substanciate your remarks to even the smallest degree, then you might(I repeat MIGHT) actually have enough cajones to sign your name to those same remarks. Are you afraid those of us who read this blog might find out your identity? If you're unwilling/unable to accept responsibility for your comments, then I have to tell you I place ZERO value on anything you might post(for whatever that may be worth.Which I'm relatively certain is nothing at all).

I don't know about the other fellow , but , I can personally Guarantee that Stephen has blocked several of my posting which had NO obsene , un-substantialted , or derogatory remarks in them . They merely were replies to venomous postings concerning our President , or replies to issues NOT following the "acceptable" beliefs of his .

Of course, I have no idea which comments were yours. But I would guess that they were part of some comment threads that veered off topic into presidential politics. I'm tired of seeing so many subjects turned into left and right bashing each other over Bush or Obama. Let's deal with local concerns that we can actually do something about right here in Connecicut.

Bob Jelenic,
I don't know you but I can tell you are a mean SOB. Steve gives you a forum and then you call him a coward? YOU are the one who is gutless.
Ignore him, Steve. You are not perfect, but one of the things I like about you is that you admit it!

Some of you don't seem to understand what free speech means. It doesn't give you the right to speak freely wherever and whenever you like. This blog belongs to Steve so he sets the rules. To compare him to Hitler when he has obviously been way too lenient for a long time is sickening. To call him a coward because he doesn't want to put up comments by a name-calling bastard is merely pathetic.
I applaud you for doing what needs to be done here, Steve. In the long run, if there is a long run, ths blog will be much better for it.
