Memorial Day

For the 60th consecutive year, Fran Mullins will line up this morning to walk in Bristol's annual Memorial Day parade.
While his longevity is unusual, his commitment to honor our nation's fallen warriors -- and pay respect to those who survived, tool -- is typical of a town that has never faltered in support of its men and women in uniform.
Bristol's parade is at 9 a.m. and Forestville's follows at 11 a.m. Bristol's is the more somber event.

With all due respect for those who served in the US armed forces, Memorial Day is and always has been for those who died serving. Please do not try to revise that.

No one is trying to "revise" anything. The parade and the ceremony after were totally focused on remembering our fallen soilders.

You must be the same fool who posted previously on this blog. Please re-read what Embarrassed said. He/she is right on point.

It was a rhetorical statement aimed at a trend not necessarily present or prevelent in Bristol or anywhere for that matter.

Don't get defensive now or obnoxious (although it's too late for the latter).

Stephen .... That is except when G.W. is in the White House and our beloved school 'teachers' were instructing our children that our military in Iraq were nazi's .

11:59 I totally do not believe any school teacher taught their students that Iraqis were Nazis. Iraqis, like any other group in the world, have their bad apples and it is up to our government to protect us from the bad apples regardless.

poster 10:19: It is because these men and women died that you are able to say what you say. This article was written to remind us all of that. Why can't we, for once, just focus on what really matters here, which is the sacrifice these people made instead of insulting one another, which is all that ever is written anywhere else in this blog by Bristolites. My thanks and humble gratitude goes out to each and every person that has died to defend the rights we have in this country and too often take for granted especially freedom of speech.

You're twisting the whole thing around. By doing so you do not win the argument.

My point was that Memorial Day is for those who died fighting. That is all. That is what it is and that is what it should always be for. Some today say and/or seem to think it's for all who served in either war or peace. I disagree with that.

12:06 I'm not trying to win any argument. I'm just saying why does everything that's posted on this blog have to turn into a negative? Yes, Memorial Day should be to honor those who died while serving, but if Steve got it wrong or if someone celebrates all veterans does it hurt anyone? Of course not. Let's stay positive is the message I am conveying.

tsk, tsk said...

12:06 - so what did you do on Memorial Day, wimp-out and sit on the blog all day, busting everyone else's b-lls?
Get a life fool.

I was out of town, visiting the grave of my father, who was a war casualty.

I do this every year.

10:49 - then respect the service of your father and every other person who has worn the uniform of our country and stop busting b-lls.

There are times when b---s dererved to be busted, and when those who use the service of others to promote themselves, then it is time!

It's a shame mr. blummie couldn't make it . Maybe he would have told us about his service in Korea and W.W.II .

this posting was about mr. mullins and the 60 years that he has marched in recognition of those fallen in battle, unbelievable how only this blog could screw that up.
