Blumenthal tumbles in the polls

A new poll taken last night shows Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal with a 48-45 lead over Republican Linda McMahon. That's 10 points worse than he did two weeks ago.
He leads Rob Simmons by 11 points now compared to a 23 point margin two weeks ago in the Rasmussen survey.
Since the poll was done Tuesday evening, the difference is almost entirely due to the breaking news about Blumenthal's failure to stick to the truth on his military service record.

If you were in hell, would you remember you were there or would you "misspoke" about it?

Mr. Blumenthal should resign as the State Attorneys' General.

That poll also shows he drops a little against Schiff, but I'm guessing more undecideds have gone with Schiff since his numbers against Blumenthal increased a lot.

"In the May 4 poll, Blumenthal led 54-29 . The new Rasmussen numbers show that lead shrunk to 53-37."

Mountain out of a mole hill. "In" and "during" while in the middle of speech is a unintentional mistake. "I was in Vietnam" is a common phrase for people who served during that time - in this sentence "Vietnam" is not a geographic location, but an event.

He has made it very clear many many time prior to this "McMahon Stunt" that he served state side.

How many jobs has Blumenthal killed with his grand standing lawsuits?

How many companies haven't moved to Connecticut because of this clown?

Our mayor doesn't have a clue and we will not forget!

This is a smear campaign against Blumenthal ...

The GOP is going to need more than this to prevail come November...

Re: 10:24

You are kidding, right? I was in Viet Nam and no one I knew, except you now, ever confused being there with simply being in the military during this timeframe.

One cannot defend an indefensible position.

I quite frankly am embarassed for the Marines that were standing behind him on the podium. With statements such as:

"When I returned from Viet-Nam"
Inferences to being spat upon on his return,

"When I was there"
Those are statements that should lead any reasonable person to believe that he was in country, serving there. He is a lawyer and there is nobody better at manipulating the English language than a lawyer. He knew exactly what he was saying. I served during Operation Just Cause (The removal of Noriega in '89) I was in Panama before the Operation began but never had anything specific to do with the Operation or removal of the General itself.
Making statements such as those Mr. Blumenthal made is injust to those that have served in harm's way and I have a hard time believing any veterans would support him for lying, or at the very least misleading people. If he mispoke as he claims he did, well I don't buy that because he did it numerous times. Everyone wants to fall all over the vets at election time, but it is really disturbing to me how it is easier for an "illegal" to enter this country and get hooked up with full benefits than for a veteran to receive proper care and compensation. Heck at one point I believe it was New Mexico ( I am not sure) where but a US. Senator briefly considered putting a bill in place requiring GI's (active service) to pay for thier health care since we field an all -volunteer force. Where was the outrage then? With this younger force coming home that are mandated to do 4, 5 6+ tours because there is no draft, there is perhaps the chance that a good portion of them will need proper care when they return. I do not see that happening.

Oh please, like all the good he has done for the state and he mis-speaks ONE time out of 40 and Chris Healey wants him to withdraw from the race? That Chris Healey, he shouldn’t throw stones…lol. What about all the lies the Republican McMahon is hoisting on the public? Like buying herself a new image of a clean cut loving mother, an honest business woman who doesn’t support the use of illegal steroids in TV wrestling and (most of all) her never promoting women as sexual objects. No woman in her right mind should think about voting for the likes of McMahon!

10:43, You've just made it painfully clear who really doesn't have a clue...and it's not the Mayor.

Rasmussen polls have a strong Republican house effect that Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight.com explains in some detail here

Beware a pollster with a narrative.

Why would anyone vote in someone who is trying to buy a Senate seat? Those are the politicians people complain about most yet they are going to vote in this steroid endorsing, woman degrading, phony woman?! Are you people nuts?

A lie is a lie, even if you call it something else. He lacks the ethics to call it what it is. He is not worthy of the public trust.

Good thing he didn't LIE !!!!!!!

He seems to be following the historic leaders of the past such as .... Clinton , Hitler ..... Just NEVER admit to anything .... even if it is on video for everyone to see . The friendly media will protect you no matter what .

If Linda McMahon can't overtake him after this then she never will...

Anonymous said...

If Republicans are asking for him to resign that is because he is a strong contender. Maybe he lied about V Nam, maybe not. The fact is that he has worked hard, for many years, to help with real issues and has made a difference, in favor of the regular people in this State, not the reach nor the politicians.

If you watch the entire speech, he corrects himself. Linda McMahon left that little part out. She's just another slimy politician looking out for #1.

Anonymous said...

Funny, the Times doesn't mention him correcting the lie. And Blumenthal didn't correct the lie when it was printed in newspapers.

Thank you, Linda. Looking forward to having you as Senator.

Gotta love the way Linda's entire campaign is based on bashing the competition. Guess she's got nothing positive to offer up.(I can't wait to see Bloomie blow her off the radar screen).
