Nicastro says no to another term as a city councilor

City Councilor Frank Nicastro, a former mayor who is also the 79th District state representative, said tonight that he won't run for another term on the City Council.
"I'm too busy in Hartford," Nicastro said.
Nicastro is in his second consecutive term as a 3rd District councilor, a position he sought after taking a two-year break following a decade in the mayor's office. He served for three terms as one of the district's council members before winning the city's top job in 1993.
Nicastro has served in the state House since knocking out longtime incumbent Democratic state Rep. Kosta Diamantis in a hard-fought 2006 primary. He won reelection to the state post last year.
With Nicastro's decision to depart from the council, the Democrats have apparently have two open seats in the 3rd District since city Councilor Craig Minor said two weeks ago that he would not seek reelection either.
Among the likely contenders for Democratic backing are Terry Parker and Charles Cyr, though there are surely others with an interest as well.

-For the sake of my city I hope so.

IF THE GOP CAN'T GET A SEAT IN THIS DISTRICT NOW, THEY SHOULD CRAWL AWAY FOREVER.

Oh thank God.

Terry Parker and Charles Cyr. Two state employees. Kevin McCauley, a city employee. Mike Petosa, a potential candidate - a state employee. I think we see what Artie is trying to accomplish with getting some buddies on the Council who will do his bidding.

He will be missed.........SIKE

Jill Fitzgerald for City Council.

This will now allow him to run for Mayor against Ward. Stay tuned.

I would blame anything or anyone for this list of potential candidates except the Democrat Party in general. This is what you get with the Democrat Party. Unfortunately the Republican alternative in the 3rd Council District of Bristol is barely any different.

If the Democratic Party leadership does not assert itself and realize the error of putting up an all union slate and tell these guys that there is no room on the ticket for all them, then the party is doomed. I am a democrat, but definitely do not like the direction that it is going. Not exactly moving forward, if you get my drift.

I am a taxpayer here in Bristol and I wouldn't want a wimpy republican in office . All they do is whine and moan, they are faceless useless complaining. Nothing constructive. But what's new ?

Hopefully we're all "republicans" an democrats (small "r" and "d"). Capitalizing the first letter references the political party.

Take an English class at Tunxis and brush up on your grammar you ignorant (in grammar and politics) fool.

Although Terry Parker's argument against the COO was twisted and weak, he was right for being against it.

I am just hoping for higher IQs from the Bristol Democrats when it comes to candiadtes for elected office in the future.

Maybe Stortz wasn't so bad after all.

Terry's a nice guy but he was against the COO for the same reason as all the other career politicians: loss of power. But they will never admit it.
