A skilled writer with a passion for literature, John Updike, is dead, according to The New York Times. At his best, Updike could capture a period, not just a scene, as he did in the first couple books of his Rabbit series.
It's always sad when a brilliant writer leaves the scene.

Very sad - his piece on Ted Williams is one of my favorite pieces of writing ever (and I'm not even a Red Sox fan).
May he rest in peace.
John Updike's passing is sad news indeed... he possessed a truly beautiful mind; he didn't just write well, he wrote wisely
