Thank God it was his last speech - one too many.

President Bush reminded us that while most of us have gone on with our lives after 9/11, he has been keeping us safe ever since that day. His critics have forgotten that.

President Bush was sincere and obviously extremely dedicated to the job, to our armed forces, and to all of us citizens. He was gracious to Mr. Obama and his family. He was optimisic about the future of America. He was.... Presidential.

Mr. Obama will have to do some growing up to fill President Bush's shoes.

I hope Obama's new Attorney General prosecutes Bush and Cheney for war crimes.

They murdered and stole from innocent people and should be swinging from the gallows for their crimes!

7:23 What war crimes? Would you be more specific? I haven't heard anything about that.

Why does CNN have the wrong picture with the article? His tie was blue, not red. Hmmmmm....ah, I see it. In the incorrect picture his hair wasn't combed as neatly, and he was not smiling, though he smiled often throughout his Farewell Address.

Great Man ..... Great Speech .....

I never expected less from such a honorable person .

America will surely miss his wisdom and guidance .

I hope that since the new attornoy general will have " standing " he will go to the Supreme Court and have the forigner removed from the oval office .

1. George Bush and Dick Cheney ordered a War of Aggression against Iraq. This constitutes a Crime Against Peace - for which Nazi leaders were prosecuted at the Nuremberg Trials - and violates the UN Charter.

Iraq never attacked the US or threatened an attack, so the US was not acting legally in self-defense, which is permitted under the UN Charter.

Iraq played no role in the September 11, 2001 attack on the US and never provided material support to any terrorist group that attacked the US, so even the non-legal Bush doctrine of pre-emptive attack did not apply.

At the time of the US attack, Iraq was nearing full compliance with UN Resolution 1441 and prior resolutions requiring disarmament, and the majority of the Security Council believed UN inspectors should be given more time, so the US was not enforcing UN resolutions, as it claims.

George Bush and Dick Cheney ordered the invasion of Iraq in order to bring about a regime change, which was never authorized by a UN resolution, and violates the UN Charter.

A Crime Against Peace is defined as "planning, preparation, initiation or waging of a war of aggression, or a war in violation of international treaties, agreements or assurances, or participation in a common plan or conspiracy for the accomplishment of any of the foregoing." By invading Iraq, Bush has committed a Crime Against Peace.

2. George Bush and Dick Cheney ordered the bombing of civilian areas like Baghdad (with 5 million innocent civilians) and Basra. This resulted in the deaths of hundreds of non-combatants, in violation of Geneva Convention (IV) Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, August 12, 1949.

Article 3(1): The following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to [non-combatants]: (a) violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture.

The independent Web site IraqBodyCount.org is documenting each Iraqi civilian death, based on reports from at least two mainstream Western media organizations (AP, Reuters, CNN, etc.)

"Shock and Awe" bombing of Baghdad

3. George Bush and Dick Cheney are ultimately responsible for the torture and murder of Iraqi prisoners, which resulted from policies that were approved by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales, and Vice President Cheney himself. These policies were adopted with full knowledge that they could result in war crimes, which persuaded Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee to urge Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to appoint a special prosecutor.

And there is much more...

10:24 is right. Either there were no pictures available of the farewell address (doubtful) or they purposely tried to make people think he didn't look as well as he did. Same old crap from the news media that he's been dealing with for years.

Anonymous said...

2:06 If what you are spewing was true, Bush and Cheney would have been arrested by now. But guess what? They haven't, and nobody's even suggesting it.
Peace? In a country where innocent people were tortured and killed daily in underground chambers of horror? Most Iraqis are grateful to the US, and we should be grateful to President Bush for keeping us safe from another attack on our soil. We'll see how Obama does. We already know that our enemies are happy that he was elected.

Student: You don't remember Clinton, impeached for lying about molesting a young intern in the oval office? I'd say he beats all comers for worst president ever. He should be sharing a cell with Phil Giordano.

Ironic that early on, when Bush took strong action after 9/11, his approval rating was @90%.

How soon people forget.

While it is only a novel, read EXTREME MEASURES, and maybe you'll have a different perspective as to how we should defend ourselves.

God Bless President Bush...thank you for your courage and your resolve to keep us safe.

HAHAHA Seriously...

I am old enough to remember Clinton and Giordano.

First Clinton and Ms. Lewinsky both had a consensual relationship. It wasn't molestation. But then again I'm sure you believe he killed Vince Foster too.

Second. Phil Giordano's actions are far, far worse (children for God's sake!). And for you to put the two in the same comparison is not only logically fallable but is a cynical play upon the ignorance of people who would read it.

Bill Clinton - Lied about sex!

George Bush - authorized Torture.

George Bush - Worst. President. Ever.

Hey Steve,

How did January 16, 2009 6:02 PM get through? I remember you saying Anonymous posters (a.k.a. cowards) who "spew" hate were going to be censored out after December?

@ January 16, 2009 6:02 PM...

IMHO, the veracity of your attack suggests some form of psychosis. It's never too late to seek professional help. Do it!

With help and guidance, hopefully, you will one day be able to appreciate the value of considering the notion that others are entitled to their own personal points of view also.

I can appreciate your point of view, but reject it as complete nonsense, much like the BS that came from the festering pie hole of G"W"B for the last eight miserable years. Bye, Bye, BUSHEY!!!

Anonymous said...

This video montage from the David Letterman show says it all.

G"W"B is a nincompoop. Period.

David Letterman makes a living poking fun at people. That's why he does it. He's not a reporter, a political expert, or even a good judge of character. He's funny sometimes, but that's it.

Student doesn't realize that Monica Lewinsky was a young girl. Yes, she was old enough to be considered an adult in that situation, but she was young enough to be intimidated by the President of the United States, just as the little girls were intimidated by the Mayor of Waterbury. Those men used their elected positions to get what they wanted. Sick.

President Bush, while physically protecting us from harm for eight years, has also been a fine moral example in his personal and family life. The Oval Office has been cleaned up. You can talk about how you think he's stupid all you want, but I'm happy that our little kids aren't getting sex education from news reports about the president anymore.

If Student knows who killed Vince Foster, he should report that information to the authorities. If he doesn't know, then he probably doesn't know for sure who didn't kill him. And neither do I.

Bush allowed the worst attack on America since 1941. How's that keeping us safe?
Are you going to say that if another attack happens during Obama's first term that it was Bush's fault? Somehow I doubt it.
And comparing President Clinton to the mayor from Waterbury is warped beyond imagination. There's a big difference between a 21 year old intern and little kids. Moreover, the Republicans are the ones who turned a private peccadillo into a national soap opera. It was pathetic on so many levels, including Clinton's own behavior.
But I'll take Clinton's sexual wanderings over Bush's rush to war anytime.

Anonymous said...

Bush "allowed" 9/11?
Bush is to blame for any future attacks on the US?

LOL

You obviously have not been the father of a twenty-one year old girl away from home and being preyed upon by an older, married president.

George Bush reminds me a lot of my dad, whom I respect and admire immensely. The farewell speech was great, but I will miss the secure feeling that we are all being cared for by a competent and dedicated person. We'll see what the next four years bring.

Anonymous said...

I saw a bumper sticker that says it all: I'll be as nice to your President as you were to mine.

Thank you for 8 great years of keeping my family safe. I just hope the next 4 go as well!

Anonymous said...

10:57 - with no disrespect to your dad but he must have really sheltered you with a limited view of safety.

I haven't heard of any more terrorists killing thousands of people in the US since 9/11. That's thanks to GWB.

Try to be a little bit grateful.

I really do NOT recall president Bush using the U.S. Military to murder over one hundred INNOCENT men women and CHILDREN in their own home like mr. clinton did in Waco .

No Brainer ..... Clinton was by far the worst president in modern times .

end of debate ...............

I liked seeing all the presidents at the inaugural, and I especially liked when the Carters snubbed the Clintons! Too funny!

I agree with Odin, bush should be held for war crimes he lied and used the american people to do what he wanted to do, not to mention the made up stories and reasons for invading, weapons of mass destruction, he even said it in his farewell speech that he was disaapointed that they weren't there, so swallow your pride and come to earth with the real world.

Your real world is going to collapse. The emperor isn't wearing any clothes.
