I don't believe in cutting off discussion before an election, the very time that the most people want to talk politics.
But we don't need more trashing of candidates so let's open this up to let people say why voters should back a particular person at the polls Tuesday. Give us the positives for each candidate.
I'll delete, as best as I can, any comments that are negative or even backhanded slams against someone who's not actually mentioned. If I think you're trying to take a shot at someone, I won't let the comment through.

Voting for Ward. Experience and leadership. Has great ideas, on how to move Bristol forward and ways to cut spending.
Vote for Cockayne. It's time for a change. Time for new people with fresh Ideas.
Art Ward and Mike Rimcoski and that's it.
I don't believe anyone else has given me enough reason to vote for them. No one else has spoken to us throughout the campaign about their plans for the next two years. That includes the Board of Ed candidates.
Vote for Bruce Lydem ,His platform speaks volume for direction that this city has to head in.
Ward, Cockayne, Lydem. I'm from the 2nd district.
New blood with experienced leadership.
Please consider voting for anyone and everyone that has a coherent thought, speaks the language properly, and most importantly is civil and respectful to those who don't possess the previous two qualities.
Steve,
On the eve of this year's municipal elections I want to thank you for providing a forum where citizens can discuss and debate the many important issues facing our City. As I am sure you know, in order to sustain a democratic society citizens have to be active participants in their government. You have provided a important vehicle for active participation. Thank you.
I would also like to wish all the candidates for public office, Republican, Democrats and Indpendents, well as we head to election day. It is no small decision to run for public office. It is difficult work but well worth it when we seek to serve the people. Regardless, of the outcomes on election day, my hope is that when the smoke clears we will all be Bristolities and work hard to make our City the very best it can be.
Good Luck!
Best,
Bruce Lydem
Endorsed Democrat
2nd District, City Council
I've already had to delete a few comments. You can't say things like "Candidate X has done nothing so I'm voting for Candidate Y."
I think that new blood in City government is a good thing, but new blood should also start at the City Councilor level and not at the Mayor's level. We need experience at the Mayor's level. It's not a position for someone in experienced in the happenings of our local government.
So, I'm voting for Art Ward.
Cockayne, enough said!
Steve,
this should have been done from the get go!
I am voting for Ken and his team! They are the epitome of what Bristol needs. I am a lifelong resident and I have never been more impressed. I recieved a knock on my door and It was Mr Johnson. I voiced my concerns and he listened! I also had a family crisis at the time and he listened with a open ear and a genuine heart! I am hopefull for his victory tomorrow and his vision to put BRISTOL FIRST!
Johnson, Lydem, McCauley and Viets. I believe they are the candidates who will best serve the city and my district (2nd).
Voting for Mr. Ward. We need someone with experience and integrity at the helm. It's time for Bristol to move for-WARD!
I wish I lived in district 2 so I could vote for Geladino and Cocaine.
Ward, because he is a war hero.
I'll be voting for Bob Merrick for a 3rd District Council seat. He represents a new face and a new voice for Bristol. He has run a strong postive campaign and I like his ideas for marketing Bristol, working across parties and for open communications.
Steve,
I'm wondering what Ward and Johnson's plans are if they lose.
They need to be realistic about this and I would like to know what their intentions are if they lose.
JOhnson..and his Republican team..time for a change.
Steve, I went to vote for Ward today and no one was there. I got a call from him asking me to vote for him today at 9:15 am.
Since I have to go out again tommorrow, I'll vote for Johnson.
I am voting for Craig Minor and Frank Nicastro in the 3rd, and probably Johnson. With the highway, the industrial park and all the other stuff, I feel more comfortable with their expertise.
Kevin McCauley and Bruce Lydem are a good team in the second. We need expertise and common sense approaches to things and Bruce has that. Kevin has now been there two years and I think he has learned a lot and is ready to step up.
I will be voting for Cliff Block and hope he gets in this time. He came to my door. I will probably put my other vote to Rimcoski.
I am voting for Johnson. Had Art Ward as my council rep for 14 years and that didin't do much for me.
Craig Minor - not afraid to say what needs to be said- Like it or not. We need more like him.
With Ellen Z. off the Council, there is going to be a need for continity. My votes are for the people who don't need a learning curve - Kevin and Craig, frank and Rimcoski will hopefully be back, and I like Block in my district.
I will be voting for my boss and friend Ken Johnson!
Good Luck Ken!
Voting for Ken Johnson for Mayor.
Voting for Bob Merrick in the 3rd City Council race. Not voting for a 2nd candidate since I really want to see Merrick get in and I know casting a vote for Frank or Craig *could* potentially mean Bob loses in a tight race.
Mark Anderson for Treasurer.
He is a graduate of a prestigious university (Tufts), is a Purple Heart recipient from the Viet Nam War and is a consumate professional.
That 1:10 post is pretty funny.
Anon 1:10 I got the same message! Will be voting for Johnson and Merrick. Please consider them both if you are voting in the 3rd district.
I support Craig Minor for City Council of Bristol because he will do what is right for the City of Bristol and not what is right just for Craig. His decisions are well thought out and acted upon. I have had occasion to call him with complaints and he has acted upon them in a timely fashion. Re-electing Craig is absolutely the best decision for the City of Bristol.
Voting for Ellen Zoppo on write in ballot
was told that ward's automated call to vote was activated a day early, today, by the company handling it and that it will be repeated again tomorrow.
The next two years will be so very crucial to this city's long term economic health and quality of life for our residents. We will need leadership that is open to new ideas, willing to do away with old political rituals and most importantly possesses the skills to deal with the financial and legal complexities that affect the city. In addition, they need to do all of this with a passion to be the best.
With that in mind I will vote for Ken Johnson. While he may be a political neophyte, I honestly believe that he will look at the issues facing the city in a logical and business-like fashion. Ken will also bring that passion for success that has been sorely lacking for a long time.
I'll bullet vote Merrick, too. A blend of experience and a promising newcomer seems right for the 3rd district.
Is there a write-in option on the new ballot?
Why didn't Ellen pursue that?
Damn, now I am torn between voting for Johnson and writing in Ellen on principle.
IN THE 2ND KEN AND JOE . WE NEED PEOPLE WHO COULD THINK FOR THEMSELVES. COULD YOU SEE THE UNION CONTROLING BRISTOL.GOOD LUCK AND THANKS FOR KEEPING CLEAN.
Cockayne, Johnson, and McCauley.
I like Cockane b/c he seems to have put some thought into his platform. He came to my house and spent some time talking and LISTENING.
I haven't decided on the others.
everyone i talked to likes cocaine
what about the constables? who the heck are they and what is their job?
Bruce Lydem, Do you think a smart guy like Steve can't see the transparency of how you are sucking up to him, and so openly, on the blog? Good god man, have some self respect! Steve probably posted it knowing it was just a hoot.
I like Chris Wilson for school board because he's brave. I like the idea of doing something with the mall site that might actually put the land to use instead of letting it lie fallow. Even if he is a Republican, I think he's smart.
Definitely voting against O'Brien because he led the charge for this secret move to K-8.
Art. He doesn't pretend to be what he's not.
Bruce,We are all wishing you success Tuesday at the polls! You have worked so hard during this election campaign and we hope that the voters in the 2nd district reward you with a well deserved opportunity to represent us on the city council.
Vote for Bruce Lydem!
Ellen is not a registered write in candidate so a vote for Ellen would be a vote for Ward.
Ellen should have looked at that option but I guess she felt that she was a Democrat and the Democrats spoke in the primary. The Mayor of Waterbury won two years ago as a write in candidate.
So if you are aginst Art Ward you'll need to vote for Johnson, just like I'm doing.
Good Luck to all the candidates.
Voting for WARD.
Ward gets my vote today.
