Two Bristol teachers honored

Press release from the Bristol Board of Education:

The Bristol Public Schools received commendations from the State Department of Education for the exemplary BEST [Beginning Educators Support and Training] portfolios submitted by Holly Caruso, kindergarten teacher at Mountain View School and Michelle LaVasseur, third grade teacher at South Side School. Beginning teachers in Connecticut must submit a portfolio demonstrating their understanding of teaching and learning as part of the BEST Program. Elementary teachers must create a portfolio in the teaching of literacy and mathematics that includes lesson plans, student work and the teacher’s reflection of how they could improve instruction based upon the work of their students. Mrs. Caruso and Mrs. LaVasseur have been asked to work with teachers and administrators in Connecticut new to the portfolio requirement and present their personal reflections on the process.

Kudos to Mrs. Caruso and Mrs. LaVasseur! It is this writers opinion that teachers such as these two women do not receive any where near the recognition they deserve.I believe this sort of acknowlegment definitely provides the kind of incentive necessary for other teachers to think "outside the box" when putting together lesson plans.Keep up the great work ladies!
