Broken by the bottle? An ex-wife talks and a camera may have captured Park at a key moment

Two more stories about the hit-and-run suspect to round out this weekend's offerings:
First off, Jackie Majerus writes about what Robert Park's ex-wife has to say in this story.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Muuuuuuuucccccccchhhhhhhh

The Bristol Press has reached a new low. How very sad.

The Press's actions as of late have been nothing but opportunistic on the finding a touchstone for the community and trying to exploit it for it's own profit.

I read these articles and I am extremely disappointed by the tabloid nature and sensationalistic tone of both. Absolutely disgusting and of the gutter. Everyone makes poor choices and in this case it was the Bristol Press. I, for one, will be boycotting purchasing the Bristol Press until this era is over and the "suspect" is brought to trial. When the journalists start to cover real news instead of hypothetical conjecture I hope to be back.

Steve I think you are doing a great job. BTW, thanks for adding a link to email and contact you at the top of your page. It will come in handy next time I have a question or a tip on a story.
If you folks disagree and dislike the reporting so much, then why do you keep reading the articles and commenting on the blog?? The truth is that you obviously like it and are intrigued by it. If you didn't, then you wouldn't even read it, thus you wouldn't even know what the article said or didn't say. Nobody is making you read this stuff. It's just like if you disagree with something on TV or the Radio. Nobody is making you watch or listen. You are free to change the channel or turn it off anytime!! I guess sometimes reality is too strong for you to handle. And sometimes the truth hurts.

That package store owner should keep talking! If he sold an intoxicated person more alcohol and then let him drive away then the lawyers will be suing him next!

9:59 a.m. -- This is as real as news gets: a dead child, a hit-and-run driver, a suspected drunk behind the wheel, families shattered. Keeping silent about all of that would be to abdicate the whole point of a newspaper.

I think the articles were fine until you brought his ex-wife into the mix. That was too far. She has nothing to do with the tragedy and shouldn't have been considered a source for any article.

It seems like you're piling on and you're convicting the guy in the press before he even gets to a trial. Now, all the evidence points toward his guilt and a tragic event. But I'm reading an undercurrent that seems a little vendetta like.

Sensational journalism, Steve (NOT a compliment).

"If you folks disagree and dislike the reporting so much, then why do you keep reading the articles and commenting on the blog?? The truth is that you obviously like it and are intrigued by it."

We "folks" don't read the articles. Unfortunately, the sensational headlines are blaring on the front page for all to see. No need to read the crap beyond that. We comment on the blog because we're disgusted. The TRUTH is that only ghouls and sickos, like yourself, are "intrigued" by all the gory little details.

The story has been told. A drunken fool killed a child. What more do we NEED to know??? All we need to hear is that he was convicted and sent to jail for the rest of his pitiful life. We don't NEED to hear from his ex wife, his room mates, his neighbors, the liquor store proprietor, his psychiatrist or anybody else for that matter. We've heard more than enough about Mr. Park. Once he's sentenced and sent away, we hope we NEVER have to hear his name again.

5:15 -- Just to be clear: You only know "a drunken fool" killed a child because we reported it.

You're right Steve. It's just too bad the "reporting" didn't stop there. It was enough.

I'm certain ANYONE with an EX-wife would NOT want her to be talking to reporters . Just as , i am sure she would NOT want her EX-husband talking to reporters about her .

But ..... it is a way to get cheap thrills stephen . Keep up the mud-slinging . It will be good practice for when you go after Dodd , Franks , and Obama .

And that should have been enough, Steve. The ex-wife and the video camera? Way too much. Proves the point that if it looks like a tabloid, it is a tabloid. You're not doing The Press, yourself or your reputation any favors.

Are you investigating the rollover accident to determine if alcohol played a factor in that tragedy?

Steve Collins said...

No, because, thank God, we now have a cop reporter again, Diane Church. It's her job, not mine.

So far , I have NOT seen ANY evidence that the driver was drunk at the time of the incident .

According to YOUR reports , he left work at 6:30 and immediately stopped at the package store prior to heading home . Even his EX-wife said her NEVER drank and drove . I have NOT seen any reports of previous DUI's . The youth was walking in the middle of the road in the DARK when the incident occured . It's quite a jump for YOU to boldly announce "a drunken fool" killed a child . I am seriously dissappointed in your one-sided coverage .

You have FACTS re Obama and still REFUSE to expose his treachery .

Steve Collins said...

7:12 -- I didn't call the guy "a drunken fool." That was the anonymous poster at 5:15 who said that was the entire story.
I have no idea whether Mr. Park was drunk at the time of the accident, as you correctly point out. I know that people who are close to him say he has a drinking problem. And I know he might have stopped at Marty's before driving up George Street. But that's it, really.
Our coverage hasn't been one-sided and won't be.
As for President Obama, well, I don't cover him. I write about Bristol. If he comes here, I'll write a lot about him. But if he doesn't, I won't.
There are thousands of people reporting on Obama. There are only a few telling he story of our own community. I'm one of them.
