New lawmaker from Bristol takes office

Press release from state Rep. Chris Wright, a Democrat whose 77th District encompasses northeastern Bristol:

State Representative Chris Wright (D-Bristol) was sworn in by Connecticut’s Secretary of the State today as the new State Representative serving the 77th General Assembly District in Bristol.

The ceremony took place at the State Capitol in Hartford during the opening day of the 2009 session of the state legislature.

Rep. Wright, now serving in his first term has been appointed by the newly elected Speaker of the House Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden), to serve on one of the power committees in the legislature, the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee. The committee has oversight over tax policy, fees and bonding. Rep. Wright will also serve on the Insurance and Housing Committees.

“I am very grateful to the residents of the 77th District for giving me the honor of representing them in the General Assembly,” Rep. Wright said. “As a first term legislator I want to thank Speaker Donovan for appointing me to one of the key committees in the legislature, the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee. Because of the challenges we face, this will be an historic legislative session and I hope to live up to that challenge while representing the interests of Bristol and my constituents.”

The membership of the state legislature serves two-year terms. The 2009 legislative session ends on Wednesday, June 3.
Rep. Wright can be contacted by calling his office at the State Capitol, toll free, at 1-800-842-8267. E-mail is Chris. Wright @cga.ct.gov.

Mr.Wright is the wrong person to be in that position at this time in our history as a state. We would have been so much better off with a Republican in office with the position the state is in right now. All these years of reckless spending and raising taxes has done nothing to help the tax payers of CT...My only question is how in the work can the second smallest state (I think) with the highest taxes and highest wages be in such bad shape?

Let's hope some of these new Republi-clowns in Bristol will be watching the votes of Representative Wright. I also hope they will then make public comment on his votes...that is of course if they find his votes too liberal or if the Bristol Republicans can comprehend a reason why the votes are contradictory to economic growth.

Why would you expect local republicans to question Wright when for the past year they have not questioned Ward?

And he is a much better target.

Whatever, Mr. Wright. Just cut the spending, because that's the only way out of this mess.
