City to buy house on Park Street

The city plans to purchase an apartment house at 268 Park St. for $175,000 soon.
If approved by the City Council and the Board of Finance, the city would purchase it and knock it down, as it has done to several other homes along that stretch in the past decade.
The city has a long-term plan to buy all of the properties beside historic Muzzy Field, opening up the view of the park and creating opportunities for future enhancements.

Is this Federal money that the city is using to knock down the Park street home? If not, they should reconsider if the home is not a health hazard. 175k is a lot of money!

the city does'nt care one bit about the people in bristol. work our butts off and have our homes just taken from us. and no i do not live on Park street.i guess they think eventually the homeowner will not be able to afford the property taxes anyway so the hell with them, take the house and knock it down. VERY WRONG!

Why are we spending another 175K when a deficit of 12M is looming Is this affecting city services? No. Not necessary. How about we freeze spending?

Yea, spend money on Parks (read overspend) but short roads, Education and PEOPLE!!

Way to go Art!

Hey, 5:25 PM, are you really that big of an idiot? The city isn't "taking" the property by eminent domain or any other means; it's purchasing it from a willing seller. Oh, and by the way, the current owner of the property lives in Torrington, not Bristol.

Hardly worth getting yourself in lather, was it? Nice try though. Moron.

175K is just the tip of the cost iceberg.

It will be costing us a lot more to finish the job!

Looks like that new Republican member of the BOF is a real zero.

In the early 1980's Councilman Ralph Papazian proposed that the City purchase all of the properties on Park St. and Muzzy St. that abutt Muzzy Field. The board of finance rejected the proposal as being too expensive. A compromise was made to purchase the house on Muzzy Street which is now the ticket plaza for the park. It is unfortunate that the board of finance has such short sightedness as we now will have paid two to three times or more for the properties individually. I still think it is a good idea to purchase the property. It will enhance the overall aesthetics of Muzzy Field. All City Governments should make decisions on the long term effect of their decisions. (sometime you have to spend money to save money)

The house ain't worth that much, as usual we're overpaying. Are they going to buy that property near City Hall too so they can make more parking for city workers who can't be bothered to cross the streetscape to get to work?

BOF...once the fiscal watchdogs of Bristol now a bunch of wet noodles.

Watch dogs, now Lap dogs.

Better to spend on parks less for the school board.

I hope BRISTOL goes broke just to prove how sorry our leadership is.

5:18 PM: Our town and its leadership are fine (even in this rotten economy). It would appear your moral compass is the thing that went broke.

175 is just the tip of the iceberg!

Like I asked before doesn't this house belong to a Republican? Can't answer?
