City's high school seniors aiming for free Florida trip

Bristol Eastern High School's seniors are currently in second place in a national contest to see which high school can watch the most insipid Disney videos and eyeball the most Disney photos from 'High School Musical 3,' a useless commercial endeavor at best.
There's also something about voting via text messages each day to add to Eastern's tally. That might be easier.
Anyway, if you want to help the kids win -- they also get a free concert from somebody I've never heard -- then check out this link. You can also find the updated leader board to see which American high school is on top.
Bristol Central High School, by the way, is number 22 on the leaderboard. So it's not out of the running.
This whole thing is supposedly aimed at building school spirit, though it's hard to escape the obvious conclusion that it's mostly aimed at building the High School Musical brand name for even more Disney profits.
Personally, I'd rather see high school seniors put their efforts into helping their community instead of helping Disney make more money. (And, to make it clear before someone lashes into me for it, I am keenly aware that many, many teens are also doing great things for the community; so please, you don't have to tell me that.)

Your right. This is a ridiculous waste of time and energy that could be spent helping the needy right here in our town.

The young people do an awful lot in Bristol, youngsters of all ages.
Most of it goes unacknowledged.

This is an opportunity to for them to see that others are willing to help them.

Otherwise it turns out to be, everyone for themselves.

I am sure that any help will be appreciated.

Oh, come now. There are many adults helping those kids every day with much more important things than winning a Disney trip that Bristol can't possibly win anyway because its schools are too small.

I'd like to see them come out of high school knowing how to make change and sew on a button, not to mention being more educated in spelling, grammar, and American History.

Go EASTERN!!!

Waste of time to do this and a waste of school time to go to Disney. No wonder we lag behind so many other countries in education.

Let's keep the kids in school where they should be. There is no need for this waste of time.

To all of you posting negative comments, you should know that you have no clue what you are saying. I am a senior at Eastern and I can personally tell you that we have worked very hard to be where we are. You talk about teaching us the right example and how we should be doing better things, but telling us that we can't do it because we are too small of a school is not exactly a great example either. Our students work hard inside and outside of school, so you have no right to judge what we are working for. No matter what the commercial value of this contest is, it has also brought our school together.

The school could have "come together" for a better cause than winning a trip to Florida.

Students are not in school to be "brought together", they're in school to be educated. Disney World is fake. If a trip is necessary, go somewhere educational.

ok this is not a waste of school time because all the pictures and everything are taken after school and the trip is not during school so its not disrupting school, and it hasnt taken away from helping with the community we are able to do both

so the one time eastern students band together you're going to start bashing them? that is not even right.

so what if it is something for Disney, it is something that brought the youth of birstol together. would you rather have your child staying after school to take pictures for the contest or doing drugs?

Alright the Bristol Press seemed to back Bristol Central in every way when they were at the top. There were no negative thoughts or ideas about the contest then. But now that Bristol Eastern is on top you have to start going against the contest when their was no evidence of this negative attitude before? You have to try and make us feel like horrible people who dont help their community? Both my friends and I help the community and trying to make our senior year a year to remember is hardly wrong.

oh please, its highschool.
let kids live alittle before its all over. you only live once, and the community will surivive.

As you wasted your time posting this blog you could have helped out BEHS. But apparently you're higher than that and like to put down a group of teenagers. You truly are a great person...
