If the city had fired Jonathan Rosenthal, perhaps Bristol rather than Waterbury could be hiring former Gov. John Rowland as its new economic development director. Strictly from a "wouldn't it be fun?" angle.... oh, well, Waterbury has a well-deserved reputation to preserve.

Although Bristol doesn't have a bunch of convicted criminals and ex-criminals in office (Ward's DUI doesn't count), the cronyism in Bristol is probably even worse as it relates to city officials and city jobs.
Gossip column! Gossip column! Gossip column!
.....3:39, you seem to be a shining example of someone suffering from a lifelong addiction to stupidity and for you, that is probably a step up.
Intelligence , Ability to actually achieve goals in a timely manner ... Why would Bristol ever even consider hiring such an individual for any position ???
Here we go again.....Taunt the monkeys in the cage for entertainment.
Come on Steve. Your "what if" post is offensive to those of us who live in this town.
Is this really necessary?
Some people are humor deprived.
I find little humor in a convicted state official who violated the public trust now getting a plum job at partial Waterbury taxpayer expense. I find it quite sad.
Hey Steve, I doubt you would be laughing if it was West Hartford that hired him.
This is a sad day not just for Waterbury but for the entire state.
Rowland should be prevented from having any kind of government funded position - local, state or federal.
Humor was the bumper stickers on Don Cassin's car. This isn't funny. It's sick that he would even be considered, never mind hired.
My personal opinion is that hiring John Rowland is at least odd.
While I like the guy on a personal level -- he was always friendly and kind of fun -- it's hard to believe that Waterbury could not find anyone else for that kind of money who didn't have a track record of criminal wrongdoing.
I'm not sure I would bar him forever from working for government cash, but it does seem awfully soon to forgive and forget.
The cronyism in this city is getting worse.
Sooner or later it will get us in trouble.
...Poor 7:11, sounds like you don't have any cronies of your own to crony around with...
Steve-
I've got to say that I love the humor that you bring to this blog. I agree that there are many visitors to this site that lack the sense of humor (or knowledge to interpret your jokes,) that is necessary to fully benefit from the discourse.
This is not the Bristol Press. This is speech in a public forum in its purest form. Things need not be factual to be on here, nor must they even be rational, logical or current. I believe the only restrictions would be on those things that would appeal to the "purient interest," though this is the internet, so who really cares?
Rowland wouldn't have had a chance at getting hired here. And if he did, he would have wished he was back in prision. Projects move quicker there, the people are friendlier and more cordial, and everything is generally neat and clean. Rowland is a "do-er," when what our Council apparently wants a do-nothing slug in this vital role.
Interesting ...... Republican governor convicted while in office = Hatred
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Democrat President convicted of multiple felonies while in office = wife running for same office w/ his assistance and is loved by many .
Rowland in the Waterbury job is a joke, so why not laugh? You either laugh or cry, and laughing's better.
Har de har har...
Which Democratic President was convicted of multiple felonies? Bill Clinton was never convicted of anything.
Whereas President George W. Bush actually does have a police record. Maybe that's why so many people voted for him.
I guess denial isn't just a river in Egypt ..... Bill Clinton was definitely convicted of multiple felonies while in office and had his law license revoked along w/ paying a substantial cash fine .
I still have trouble with fellow democrats that refuse to acknowledge facts . PLEASE !!!! get some help ..... The party needs people willing to join reality .
Bill Clinton was never CONVICTED of anything, certainly not any felonies.
You don't need a law degree to understand what "convicted" means.
You liberal pukes crack me up. The humor wasn't in the article, it is in your hateful reactions.
If a liberal Democrat like Ernie Newton got out of prison and got a job, you snots would say, well he did the crime, he did the time, he is entitled to a job.
But because Rowland is a Republican, who admitedly did the crime, and did the time, he should be punished forever?
Besides, it is Waterbury taxpayer money, not yours so MYOB.
Actually I think it is more sad that Bristol reappointed Roenthal. Every dollar he gets is taxpayer fraud. Nobody wanted to reappoint him but we are so castrated by our corp. consels and so afraid of getting sued that he gets reppointed.
He has made about a million dollars in wages by now and his reppointment period will see him make another half a million and he hasn't done squat, isn't doing squat and won't do squat.
I think the joke is on Bristol.
And his law license was revoked because ??????
Because Clinton violated the bar association ethics code, not at all the same as being convicted of felony by a jury in a court of law.
Felony convictions send you to jail.
Unless you're a black democrat president
Gee, if Bristol had gotten rid of Rosenthal we could have hired Rowland.
Our loss, I guess.
