AWESOME! Just goes to show you can't treat people the way Zoppo has all these years and expect them to like you!!
I am sure the look on her face tonight is priceless!!

Ellen Zoppo will do very well for herself. She is very bright, energetic and proactive. The "private sector" will love her if she chooses to move in that direction, and any entity will be better off should she choose to direct her talent and energies toward their needs and goals.

It is sad to me that she was unable to overcome the perception that she is some sort of conniving lout when her only real desire and focus has been to work as hard as she could to make this city a better place. That has not been, nor will it be in the future, an easy chore.

Progress often requires stepping on toes, holding people accountable, establishing and maintaining order, structure and priorities and having a reasonable understanding of how our complicated federal, state and local governments actually work - and taking advantage of what each can offer. Despite whatever warts Ellen Zoppo may have, she seemed to have the greatest potential to really make this a better city. And my opinion is that this city has been very stagnant and rudderless for far too long.

Ellen Zoppo expressed support for investigating a move to a city manager form of government. I firmly believe that this primary illustrates the need to move in this direction. It is one thing to be flighty as citizens regarding someone who will guide this city and help oversee a manager. It is quite another to change every few years the person who actually is expected to run the city on a day to day basis as well as plan for it's future. We have experienced far too much vacillation over the past decade in our leadership, and, consequently, a relatively clear direction forward has been mired in milling.

Although there is no choice but to wish the next mayor well and hope that they will actually have a positive impact on the future of this city, it is very hard to extract from either remaining candidates' track record a warm and fuzzy feeling that Bristol will be well served for the next few years.

Less than 3 out of 10 Democrats actually cared enough to make the decision regarding who they would prefer run the city the next two years, despite all the clamoring for a more "open and inclusive" government body. "Let us have a voice" resulted in not much more than a whimper in a very important primary where all one had to do was go to a polling place, get out of the car, fill out a form and go home. No long meeting, no letters to write, no research to do unless you chose to - no real significant effort involved. But the ramifications regarding what will be going on for the next few years in the city are remarkably significant. Bristol cannot continue to allow a process where apathy trumps action to result in how the future of this city will unfold.

Please give the concept of creating a city manager form of government some very serious consideration. The future is challenging and the world can quickly pass the city of Bristol by. There is a massive main course of issues that need to be dealt with and a line up of entrees that in and of themselves are rather overwhelming. If there is a sincere desire to make Bristol a vibrant place to live, a place where future generations will be apt to consider calling it home, there is a great deal to be done. The present form of government doesn't seem to have a chance at even keeping up. Please consider strongly the need for a change and make your feelings known.

Good luck to the next mayor, and good luck and thank you to Ellen Zoppo. Despite much of the recent rhetoric, she has served the city well and has accomplished a great deal for us Bristolites. I hope most will acknowledge that and let her know.
