Johnson extends "Listening Tour"

A new press release from Republican mayoral contender Ken Johnson:

Mayoral candidate Ken Johnson is continuing his listening tour this week. “I’ll be in the Cedar Lake area of District 2 on Saturday. District 2 has quite a few burning issues- not just downtown but police, fire and education. A number of parents are expressing concern about the K-8 and school building plans. I want to hear more. ”
He has expanded his listening tour to include conversations with city leaders and department heads, having already met with the police chief, fire chief, purchasing agent and director of public works. “This week, I had great conversations with Glenn Klocko, Jonathan Rosenthal and Ed Swicklas gaining insight on the issues and listening to their ideas for the future of Bristol. Ed’s excited about the planned improvements to Rockwell Park and so am I. The superintendent of schools is next on my radar.”
So far Johnson and his team have knocked on about 4000 doors. “The reception has been great. I had people offer me water on hot days. Last week on a 95 degree and humid day, a woman on Rambler Rd. invited me to take a dip in her pool. I stuck my arms in, but I’ll admit diving in was tempting.”

Who's Ken Johnson? All I see are signs for Art Ward... come on Kenny boy - gentleman, schmentalman - get the signs up already for crissakes. I see you and the wife have 'em on your cars - why aren't they on lawns yet? Who cares about what you listen to - who's listening to your message, any one? the old guard in the RTC? Time for those boys and Capitan Art (not Ward, Mockery)to close up shop as well.

Hey Sam.
Get a life. Ken was not allowed to put up signs during the primary.

If you can't be positive you are of no value to anyone. If one thing is clear everyone (except maybe you) are sick of all the negative posts. Let the candidates discuss the issues and let the voters decide.

Ken has signs up. They look like Home Depot advertisment signs.

Actually, those Art Ward signs need to come down until October.

There are strict rules about when politicians can put lawn signs up. I believe the rule is the signs can go up 3 weeks before the election. Art's signs are still up from the primary election and must come down within a week. The signs can then be put up three weeks before the general election in November.

Apparently Mr. Spade, as most of the Republicans, are unaware of the gentleman's agreement between the two parties that signs should not be posted until one month out from the election. I'm not saying Art hasn't disregarded this agreement, but I don't see the point in him taking his signs down just to have to put them up in a month. However, I have seen Republican council candidate signs springing up. There's no need to look at those for the next two months. There will be so many this year that I don't believe people want to have to see them for two months. One month is plenty. Since Art's are up, Johnson should put his up, but I think the councilpeople should keep theirs down until one month out. just my opinion.

Hey stupid...signs we up for Ward b/c of the primary. There's plenty of time for signs..they don't win elections.

Also if thats all you look at than you need something to do with your time.

In November you'll find out who has been listening to his message when he is sworn in as Mayor.

There are no rules regarding when the signs can go up. We use to have an ordinance however that got ruled unconsitutional.

There is no "gentleman's agreement" either. I personally think we should pass an ordinance that says no signs at all.

Actually, when it was declared unconstitutional to limit the amount of time signs were up, there was a "gentleman's agreement" between the two parties, but you must be a Republican, because you folks don't abide by the agreement anyway. There should be some signs so people know who is running, but there should be a number placed on how many signs each candidate can put up otherwise it's ridiculous!

Here we go again. Now were going to try and make a big deal out of the signs issue.

It is true that Art Ward and Ellen Zoppo needed to put them up for the primary. Now that Zoppo is out Johnson should have his signs up since Ward's signs are all over the city.

Ward said recently that he had even more on order for after the primary. Has he stopped putting up additional signs since the primary? I know that I have seen new ones pop up around my area. Maybe people were just waiting until after the primary to pick which Democratic candidate they are supporting but there still are more.

What about the Independent candidates? Do they have a "gentlemen's agreement?"

This is rediculous. Are you people really going to make this about signs?

All of you need to grow up. This site is getting almost as bad as the other one.

It's nice that Mr. Johnson is going on a listeneing tour. I hope that the public is honest with him and doesn't hold back.

This was a release about Mr. Johnson's extending his listening tour and not about signs. So thanks a lot "sam spade" for the crap you have shoveled on the blog. You once again have added no value at all.

For the rest of us let's listen to both Mr. Ward and Mr. Johnson and their call to keep things positive.

Discuss issues!

If they can do it so shouldn't we....

Does this mean what happens on Rambler Road stays on Rambler Road?

I got Johnson's campaign mailer. I wasn't impressed. There was alot about him and his family history but very little about what his visions are for the city.

What few things he listed on the back page were nothing new or enlightening. There certainly weren't any new ideas.

It really was a waste of postage.
