Any Board of Ed candidates differ on K-8 or school size?

If you're running for the Board of Education and you don't agree with the direction that school board members have taken so far on K-8 and new 900-pupil schools, I'd sure love to hear from you directly.
The 13 candidates for the 4-year positions are keeping an awfully low profile.

I haven't heard from anyone yet. It does make you wonder how come the candidates who are banging on doors say the K-8 and 900-student schools are deeply unpopular, but the candidates who could do something about that don't appear to have any interest in making waves. Couldn't the political parties find a way to give voters a choice?

As I suspected in a previous post, the existing members have be welled coached to lay low on the subject. Steve, as you've noticed you have no feedback whatsoever. Not even from the BOE members that allegedly support this plan. You’d think that if they really believe upending the system was such a great idea they would at least post their steadfast support. What bothers me even more is that the prospective candidates for BOE are missing a great chance to get their name out by stating a position. I think you need to expand your request to the council and mayoral candidates as well. We should know their position. Let's see if they try and skirt the issue too.

Why should the BOE candidates get their opinions on here? They will be chewed up and spit out. They know better than to post comments on here. If you want to find out where they stand on the issue, why don't you approach them and speak with them? You also are forgetting that the council has no say in what these committees do unless you happen to be a council member on one of the committees. They have to wait to see what proposal is brought before them by each committee and the reason behind their backing of a certain area. They can say they back this or that, but in the end one proposal will be brought forth. It is either accepted or rejected ... end of story.

Why should the candidates get their opinions out to the public? Because that is what democracy is all about.
Silence is the enemy of our system of government.

"Approach them and speak with them?"THEY are the ones seeking elected office, ergo the onus is on THEM to make their views on this extremely important issue KNOWN.WHAT are they waitng for,a written invitation?

The rush to site selection for k-8 is a smoke screen designed to make it seem like a "done deal" and to distract the citizens of Bristol from the truth. The BOE can not come up with CREDIBLE documentation that large k-8 provide a better enviorment for learning ... most CREDIBLE studies support the opposite. Smaller schools of 500 students are deemed ideal. This is not and never has been about educating children. This is about building an impressive looking state of the art building that can be shown off and bragged about. Student data can and will be manipulated to make it seem wonderful. It's a facade. Only the children swallowed up within these monsterous walls, will suffer silently and the public will never know the truth. Shame on the BOE< and Shame on the politicians that we elect to represent us. They are failing miserably at protecting Bristol's future.
