Just clearing out notebooks from last week and realized I forgot to post anything about this.
Mayor William Stortz told me after the primary that he can sympathize with city Councilor Ellen Zoppo, the Democrats' endorsed mayoral candidate, who lost to primary challenger Art Ward.
"Rejection by the voters is not the most delightful thing in the world," said Stortz, who has felt that sting a few times.
He said, though, that there's always something to be said for having a milestone like a primary behind her.
Now that it's over, Stortz said, "She has to make her decision where she goes from here."
He said everyone likes to win, but there are opportunities that also open after losing.
Still, Stortz said, "I can feel for her. I've been there."

What goes around - came around!
We can only hope we have heard the last from both!
There is no reason to turn this negative. Let's just thank these folks for their service and move on.
Re: 10:06 & 10:29 AM Posts
Here's two reasons why it's so difficult to have serious discussions in this community concerning vital issues. There is no need for such juvenile comments.
Steve: Why did you let the first two postings go through?
Poster at 1:21,
That would be like thanking the mechanic who damaged your car fixing something that did not need to be fixed and they still want you to pay for the repairs.
I am ecstatic that they are both out of Bristol politics and their departure is the best thing that could happen to Bristol.
The next change that needs to be made is to get rid of all the “good old boys” and get some fresh ideas.
Why did I let the first two go through? Because they contain no expletives. They are not venomous. They may be harsh and perhaps even mean, but they're not overtly so.
You folks have no idea how much I wipe out before it gets posted -- well, some of you do -- so perhaps you don't realize how refreshing it is when something negative is as simple as, "What goes around - came around!"
I can live with that sort of thing.
It was a nice statement from the Mayor.
Ellen put herself full throttle into the campaign for Mayor because she believed that her visions were supported by the community. The realization that the majority of people who voted didn't support her visions or didn't vote because they didn't find her ideas important enough must have been a devistating blow. Like her or not, she did dedicate a lot of her time to her cause. It just wasn't the same cause that the rest of the voting citizens had.
Because Ellen did not listen to the citizens, she listened to herself. I think Ken is a nice guy, but to green for Mayor. Ward has vision, he listens to the people and that is the best choice for Mayor. Ken needs to be more involved on committees & boards, rather then fill the Mayor seat then learn as you go.

Guess Couture feels sympathy for Ellen too?
Where'd Allen Marko go? I have sympathy for him too. He's batting "0" as far as elections go. Howard Dean, Ned Lamont and now Ms. Zoppo.
I can't help but wonder what some of you here NEEd to exact your " pound of flesh."One lost a Primary and the other is stepping down.Like them or not, they both chose to step up and serve their community, which is a great deal more,I'm sure, than the majority of you negative posters have done or WILL DO.Geez Louise, can we PLEASE move on?
Zoppo-Schmoppo. She's gone the way of Roger Michele. Just another democratic upset. Remember him?
Her name in print will dwindle down to a level of nonexistence. She's yesterday's news now, Finally.
The citizens of Bristol should be grateful that they have such a hard working council woman. Her dedication and hard work will be missed. I did not support Zoppo in the primary ,because of her stand on several key issues. Still I admire the way she was always prepared to tackle an issue and how she always took the time to respond to concerns of the people she represented.
