Welch urges serious look at state spending cuts

Republican state Senate candidate Jason Welch issued the following press release in his 31st District race:
Welch: It’s Time To Get Serious About State Spending
Jason Welch, the Republican nominee for State Senate from the 31st district, called for Senator Colapietro to reveal his plan to stimulate the economy and bring jobs back to the 31st. “My ideas have been on the table for months now, it’s time to hear his,” Welch said.*****

Welch is responding to a recent Bristol Press article where Senator Colapietro claimed that Republicans want to “gut” state government. In the article, Senator Colapietro said ”All the Republicans want to do is cut, cut, cut and I say, what, what, what.” In response, Welch said “I think his statements are merely rhetoric and fear mongering. I was one of the first state senate candidates to call for across the board spending cuts of up to 10%, with certain exceptions. I have outlined how those cuts need to come from the top of the agencies, not the bottom, in addition to reforming benefits for new state employees, while keeping and funding our promises to current state employees.”
“The question I have for Senator Colapietro is does he think the state can go on without cuts?” Welch continued, “because not even his own party’s candidate for Governor thinks that.” In recent television commercials, Mayor Dan Malloy has said that if he is elected Governor he will cut state agencies by 1/3. “Now that is gutting,” Welch said. “If Malloy is serious, then Senator Colapietro should be asking him what, what, what.” Welch thinks that cutting a third of state agencies overnight would be too much of a shock to the system of an already fragile economy.
Welch called on Senator Colapietro to find out what Mayor Malloy would be cutting if elected. “If the Democrats are serious about making meaningful cuts that would save taxpayers money then I ask Governor Rell to call the General Assembly back into session this month and let’s make the cuts now. Why wait until January 2011?” Welch noted that the Democrats have controlled spending in Hartford for years now, yet have been unable to produce a meaningful reduction in costs.
“The people of the 31st state senate district are tired of the finger pointing and lack of action,” Welch continued. Welch pointed out that during Senator Colapietro’s tenure in the State Senate the budget and spending have ballooned, the pension funds are severely underfunded risking the security of many of our state retirees, and Senator Colapietro recently voted to borrow nearly one billion dollars to help fund the state’s irresponsible spending habits.
“All this spending is done on the backs of our children and grandchildren and jeopardizes the pensions of current state workers.” Welch concluded: “It’s time that Connecticut gets serious about its spending habits and elect leaders to the General Assembly that understand that business as usual is not acceptable.”

Colipinto the mungerer! What what what what would you CUT CUT CUT CUT...answer the question with specifics...both of you.

Will either of you support wage and benefit freeze for the over paid unionites?

Will either of you support accross the baord reductions in union jobs per department ...or a third as Malloy is lying about?

Will you eliminate meaningless commissions like the commission on women and commissions like that?

Will either of you support the elimination of Defined Benefit pension plans for all state employees?

Come on Tommy the Mungerer Boi lets see your colors. Jason...put your money where your mouth is.

Where is Tom's plan?

As for Jason, he represents more of us than Tom does.

As for coming clean have you every even spoken to Jason? If you had you'd learn real quick what a stand up person he is. You might not want to vote for him but don't insult his integrity.

As for your research? He is a lawyer working for an insurance company in Farmington. Wow someone in CT who works for an insurance company-- how rare is that?

As for a Republican Governor? You forget that the Dems control(and have controlled the House and Senate) with the power to override the Governor's vetoes and do so.

With so many folks moving out of Bristol we should applaud his moving to Bristol. And, the fact he wants to get involved speaks even further to his character.

I've gotten to know Jason and he is a good person, family oriented and wants to be part of a community. He also has a plan that makes sense. Sounds like a great guy to vote for.

That's why I am voting for Jason. It is time for a change!

Interesting that he would move to Bristol , buy a BIG house, from a local power broker, and then immediately run for office, before serving anywhere.

Nicely said Mr. Welch. You've earned my respect and my support.

That's a plan ? 10percent across the board? And at the top of agency's ? How about the top payed political appointees? Blah, Blah, Blah talk about rhetoric. Vote Colapietro he wont do the twist like these phony republicans. No gut's republican don't want to say who to cut? Even Welch admitted using the system. Now that he got his it's time to cut? LOL

C'mon 1:00 you wouldnt vote for a democrat no matter who was running so try the truth once will ya? Or can't ya ? Vote Colapietro "He's one of us"

Anonymous said...

To 7:00 first Colapietro is spelled that way and second but not the least Colapietro has already a record and of 3 Billion dollars in cuts. And what's Jasons claim to fame? You can see Colapietros record anytime. How about Jasons?

Anonymous said...

Three billion dollars in cuts?!?!? Please provide the details, I need a good laugh. When we are talking about cuts we are not talking about limits to increases in spending, like for example: DCF asked for 10% increase and Colapietro refused this and only gave them 8%. That is not a cut. Please, please, please provide the details on Tom's cuts. I guarantee you can't and never will.

"Colapietro said ”All the Republicans want to do is cut, cut, cut and I say, what, what, what.”"

Vote for someone who has answers instead of silly rhetoric. Vote for Jason Welch!

Anonymous said...

It's true all you republicans do is take advantage of the hard times instead of thinking of something new besides blindely cut.
You are only opportunist. But what's new?

Anonymous said...

7:00 AM will you come out publically with that? I doubt it.

Anonymous said...

"What, what, what would you cut, cut, cut."

How about cutting the crap Mr. Colapietro? You sound more like Dr. Seuss than a senator.

We need Jason Welch!

just my opinion...

Republicans think that we have already fogot why Obama is bussy cleaning up the mess they left us with? really?

Republicans create chaos and then want to blame those who HAVE TO CLEAN UP AFTER THEM?

Please be seriuos!!!!

Anonymous said...

18 Years and the best Tom can do is chair of the General Law Committee??? It is just time for a change.....

Anonymous said...

9:11 We are serious! If the republicans were serious they would admit to getting us into this mess and now we havee to clean it up. Just look at how long Bush took to put us in this mess. Republicans are all talk and no action! And useless of course!

Anonymous said...

Obama is too busy being one of the worst presidents in history to clean up after anyone.

You think republicans are all talk and no action -- wait till election time!

Go Jason!

6:44 Have you ever heard of The Corrupt Senator Chistopher Dodd? And the debt-approving Democrat majority in Congress? How about our state legislature, also a Democrat majority that has put us and our children into debt? It's not a good time for blind, unconditional love. It's time to seriously think of the ramifications of electing people.

Say what you want about the WWE, about wardrobes, and about seven children, we need people to represent us and get us out of this mountain of debt. Blumenthal, Covello and Colapietro are not going to do it. They believe in tax and spend.

If you want government efficiency, tax relief and job growth, then your choice is McMahon, Betts and Welch. Simple.

Anonymous said...

So Jason what is your plan? We already cut as the record shows now show us who and what you're going to cut?

Anonymous said...

9:19 Blah,Blah, Blah All talk and no action as usual. "Useless"and faceless

Anonymous said...

Excuse me, 4:46, but the state budget has increased; it has not been cut. Get a grip, and visit Jason's website.

4:48 My face belongs to a voter, and though in some instances this voter's aging hands are "useless", they will be able to fill in the oval next to Jason Welch's name.

Anonymous said...

3:05 Really? Gee I thought you were a Tom Colapietro fan . LMAO
"Useless" Oh yeah and faceless too. I guess he didn't lose you ? Ha

Anonymous said...

Here's another "useless" and "faceless" person voting for Welch. Go, Jason!

Anonymous said...

And Jason what exceptions are you taliking about. You should be the one to get real. Sat what you want to cut. Afraid? Talk about rhetoric and double talk.

Anonymous said...

10:53 Knowing that we can't believe anything you say because you lie so much how do we know you aren't the same person? Go Colapietro !

Anonymous said...

11:43 Wrong again as usual! The veto is more powerful than all the legeslators put together. Stop trying to "spin" " Useless" Big mouth liers.

Anonymous said...

Wrong, 7:53. The veto can be overridden.

I just got Welches flyer. I honestly thought we had another honest person running for office. But after reading his non-position on the death penalty and trying to capitalize on the wrong interpetion which any one could understand was as clear as you could ask. Tom Colapietro said and clarified that he could vote either way on the death penalty because it was a joke! I wish these people running for office would stop trying to "insult" us voters. I understood what he meant by joke. And so did the average person. Only two people have been put to death in over forty years. One wanted to die. Before that it was 1964. And the joke figure of speach was just that. So stop trying to twist the facts. And what does Welch mean with few exception? Face it Colapietro is right when he says only the lawyers make money on the so-called "Death Penalty". The taxpayers pay the freight if the person or persons can't afford a lawyer. So Mr. Welch being a lawyer as you claim are you for the Death penalty as it is?

No 7:53 You're wrong again only if everyone sticks together can it be overidden. And if you clowns went against your highness you wouldn't get anything for your district. Stop "insulting us" Or don't you understand the workings of government?

Sorry 5:25 All you have to do is learn how to read . A big task for you I know. And is that a threat? You haven't got the guts.

Anonymous said...

Apparently 5:15 doesn't know how the government works . But as long as he remains anonymous it really doesn't mean anything except he doesn't know what he is talking about. So keep up the whining and I assure you you will get back what you put out. As long as you jerks want!

Anonymous said...

Wasn't this about state spending cuts? I don't pretend to know where cuts can be made, but I know Tom is as clueless as I am about that. We need to get out of debt and quit raising taxes. So I'm voting for Jason.
