Police chief talks cover up...

Here's an odd thing.
In Mayor Art Ward's original letter to the state police, mailed last Friday, he quotes Police Chief John DiVenere as telling him "the investigation was a cover up but nobody would be able to prove it."
Yesterday, the mayor sent a second letter to the state police.
In its entirety, it said:
"Upon careful review of my earlier letter to you dated September 30, 2010, I need to make one correction to the statement attributed to Police Chief John DiVenere. Chief DiVenere stated to me 'I don't doubt there was a cover up but nobody would be able to prove it.' Thank you for your consideration."
OK, readers, why the change?

Hmmm. It could simply be an oversight on Art's part. But then again?

On a more serious note, there should be an investigation of the Bristol PD based on this event alone. It should be done by an independent outside agency in view of the possibility of an internal cover-up of Officer's Mossbacher's intoxication while on duty.

All the scandals aside, what I do not understand is why his fellow cops would be willing to cover for him. Who would want to depend on a drunk if one had to put life and limb at risk?

Because the first version of the letter bespeaks a specific knowledge by the Chief that there was a cover up. The second version makes that a guess. Goes to what the Chief actually does/does not know...

Chief John DiVenere is a great guy and does a great job for the people of Bristol.

The real cover-up in Bristol is the fact that the Democrat Party nominated an absolute moron for the city council and his name is Kevin McCauley.

This is not the first time there has been an alcohol issue involving police officers during the tenure of this Chief. Where's the leadership? Is the culture in the police department such that officers are willing to cover something like this up with no fear of discipline? Time to clean house.

A good indication that the mayor really doesn't have a clue!

But then, we (you) elected him 3 times.

The Leadership Vacuum Pyramid

Every day the Mayor proves he is clueless.

The Chief is more clueless than the Mayor. (If that’s possible)

And they are being advised on these ethical matters by Attorney Krawiecki.

...because no one realized he was drunk. hid it well, walked straight and talked straight. He was rushed to the hartford hospital due to the seriousness of the crash. No one had his blood results. No one was looking for them because no one suspected it was a dui accident versus stupid ass speeding. No indications of a dui. No cover up. NO ONE would cover for a drunk co worker.

Fed up, grow up. Hope you didn't break your other leg scrambling to get your digs in. How Steve loves to taunt the monkeys!

The Chief knows damn well whats going on but no guts to do anything. The steriods flow big time in the force . A former cop DAVID WHO SINCE TALKRD ABOUT IT AT THE BARS. The chief should be checked into.

Steve, who were the officers on the scene?

Who filed the report?

Steve, from the shift commander down, there had to be 4-6 cops in on the incident.
Why didn't ward and Divinere start investigating them immediately?

The cover up seems to have started at the top, the very top

Looks like everyone is throwing everyon under the bus in hopes of slowing it down a little. The mayor appears to throw the police chief, the police chief throw his entire departement, the department throws the accused...so much for the vaunted blue wall of silence. Kind of makes you wonder about the police chief's experiences as an officer. Or Art's know of the comings and goings at city hall. Is he so out of touch with it until the flames are at his feet and he has no other choice? Was he compelled to action by fear of the public or public fear? Why was he will to accept the police chiefs statement that he will never be able to prove it? Are all Art's employees so negative on Art's ability to act decsively and get to the bottom of an issue? His ability to conduct a fair and impartial investigation? Who is is person we think leads the city? A headless horseman?

There appears to be a whole lot of more folks involved in this incident.

As I understand it, it occurred on the "midnight shift"? If that is so, what was this officer up to prior to coming on duty that Saturday night.

I feel like I am at a murder mystry!

7:10 - better than the horse's ass that you prove to be.
If it wasn't an outside investigation, you'd be saying that it was a white-wash.

Mr Mayor: where are you????

7:10 AM: At least we know where your head is...

I think that the mayor owes us an explanation as to why he did not challenge the "cover up" comment!

If I was the boss, and one of my managers said that, I'd go ballistic.

The chief is the cover up. THEY HAVE SO MUCH ON THE CHIEF HE CANT EVEN DO HIS JOB FOR FEAR THEY WILL EXPOSE HIM.

iF THE CHIEF WAS ANYONE ELSE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED YEARS AGO AND SERVING SOME TIME IN CHESIRE.

3:01 PM: The mayor doesn't owe every nut-job who makes stupid accusation an explanation.

Kinda childish to "go ballistic" over what someone else said, but I guess you probably would.

But he DOES owe the taxpaying public an explanation!

Or are you saying we are all nut jobs because we put up with his antics?

Anonymous said...

11:14 AM: The taxpaying public isn't asking him for an explanation, only 1 or 2 nut jobs are.

I'm saying that you are either a nut job, McCauley, or one of his supporters.
