Though state Republican leaders said Monday the GOP will find someone to take on U.S. Rep. John Larson in this year’s election, nobody’s yet emerged in public.
Larson, who was elected to the 1st District congressional seat in 1998, has routinely whipped his Republican opponents.
Art Mocabee, a Bristol Republican who heads the state party’s efforts in the 1st District, said that Larson will face a GOP challenger this year.
Mocabee said the party is preparing everything from graphics to opening a bank account before making a formal announcement.
He said the candidate will probably make a formal announcement in mid-April, possibly at the state Capitol.Larson has a campaign war chest of nearly $700,000, according to his most recent campaign finance filing. That's more than all of his opponents put together have ever spent.

Please, please, please give us another option. Larson doesn't listen.
This is the best year the GOP ever had to run someone against Larson.
Why doesn't Trust-fund TJ run for the good of "his" party (the beer and crumpets party).
Run Art, run!
He's listening to me, and I'm looking forward to voting for him again in November. Good luck with coming up with a Republican who can fill the shoes of the fourth highest ranking member of the House.
Anyone but Larson. Did you see him walking arm in arm with Pelosi? We are the insurance capitol of the world and our own official champions this bill. Way to safeguard your own.
$700,000! Wow, talk about buying a win.
Don't flatter yourself Odin, Larson is listening to a much bigger, more powerful voice than yours, and it's certainly not the voice of the people.
Well any one relaying on art mocabee to get any one elected is in for a disappointment. He has never been elected nor has he ever gotten anyone elected
Yeah Odin, you have your union exemption.
might just as well have wannabee run against larson, moccabee has never won anything that he ever ran for so he will be used to being called a "loser."
6:34 - moccabee has surely helped many candidates NOT GET ELECTED though, through being associatiated with him.
Art Mocabee would be a great candidate against Larson. It's obvious with his coalition of union money, the welfare class minorities and other liberal activist groups (environmentalists and gays for example), Larson is practically unbeatable (he'd have to commit murder on someone other than a white male to lose). But Mocabee with his ability to speak publicly and with his enthusiasm would make interesting debates and raise good questions for Larson. Here's hoping Mocabee 2010 happens!
12:40 - the only positive in your thoughts is that we would be blessed that wannabee would be out of connecticut, the down side would be that we would have zero representation in washington.
better off to build up moccabee's ego and let him be the boss for garbage removal for his gated community in downtown washington, d.c.
GOP....In case you din't noticed, we have problems in Bristol. This is sad...mocabee, schafriick, alford? pleeease! Can anyone else come up to the plate? They can talk a good game but we know they cannot deliver. We do need qualified people to lead the GOP. Can someone else give it a shot?
The Dems keep serving up these Puff Pitches and the Republicans don't even swing.
What are they waiting for?
Or has a deal been struck?
