Bristol's Census participation about average

The only area of the city that's returning the forms at better than the national average is the northeastern corner. Downtown, not surprisingly, is doing dismally so far.

I think my wife threw ours out. Oh well.

Why would socialists, whoever they are, like the Census more than others?

7:51 - quite obvious that you don't count anyhow.

Steve, Thanks for highlighting this data. It is critically important for Federal and State funding to the city that every person to be counted. I heard the city officials in West Hartford are making a special effort to work with the census team to ensure maximum returns and the highest counts. In 1990 Bristol was the 9th largest city in CT. By 2000 we were the 11th largest, having declined 600 in population since 1990 while Greenwich and West Hartford creeped past us by 1,000 and 4,000, respectively. Have you heard if our city officials are working with the census team?

this makes perfect sense because the northeast part of bristol, u know where northeast school is, rules the planet let alone the city of bristol

I live in the Federal Hill section and sent mine back the day after I received it. I really don't see what everyone's problem is with filling it out. Most people openly share much more private info on all the chat rooms they visit on line. I will admit that most of what our gov't does seems obtrusive but the info they are seeking in the census form is pretty basic.

7:31 I agree. The questions were indeed very basic and unintrusive. It took a total of 5-7 minutes to fill out and now I need not concern myself with someone coming and banging on my door.I fail to see what all the fuss is about.I'm not a fan of "Big Brother" myself, but these questions didn't ask for anything but how many lived in my household.

Meriden and Manchester have information on their town websites about the Census. Why doesn't Bristol?

Alot of people in Bristol cant read or write or speak english.

Mayor Ward should initiate a Census on potholes in Bristol.

They are so bad, and there are so many, that they have resorted to putting orange warning cones in many of them.

I hope they don't run out.

Right, and they don't fill out the census anyway but according to the gov't, they are the reason the census needs to be completed.

The government has all this information already. The census is nothing but a big waste of tax payer money. It's a way for politicians to pay off their campaign workers.

Before you insult other people proof read your own comment. It is A lot not Alot. It is can't not cant. And, English not english!

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.....

Then why don't they?

And it will be even more of a problem next year.

4:54: Gee, I don't know 4:54, maybe because winter is barely over and we had yet another huge storm with torrential rain? I understand that you really (really) feel the need to whine and complain...but give the pothole thing a rest already.

Heard you were certified/qualified to show us all.

Pinehurst doesn't have any potholes.

Seems like timely paving reduces the number of potholes.

Too bad Nicastro, and now Art "I am the mayor" Ward didn't and don't realize it.

Actually it is embarassing to see all torange cones dotting our roads.

Road maintenance is one service that the public cannot provide for themselves. The city has to step up and show some responsibility.

12:41: Once again, it appears your biggest problem is that you are "not the mayor"...(good thing for us!). Try to let it go.

ring-a-ling, ding-a-ling said...

3:46 - maybe 12:41 will fall into one of these potholes and then we can say that a pothead is in the pothole unless their potbelly protrudes from the pothole with the pothead in it.
