This group so called council will do nothing. There all talk no action gang. At least with Minor and Zoppo you knew if they said something it would happen.Phony meaning fake. COCKYANE AND mills for example words come out but nothing happens thats Phony.

Anonymous said...

New headline: "Council should've stayed mum...period!"

I guess they only like to talk behind peoples' backs! LMAO!!!

Anonymous said...

ROSENTHAL is way to smart for this group of PHONYS.

Took on a whole different direction than the council played it up to be. Didn't seem to be much of anything other than dramatic overplay.
Even Kate was quiet.

Ward is a Joke. All he is doing is protecting Rosenthal. What does he have on your Ward? Or is it you feel you owe him for helping you beat Zoppo?
This will all come out when Rosental takes you down with him.

Anonymous said...

Now it's time for Cockayne to step up and run for Mayor. Cockayne will do the dirty work Ward is afraid of doing. Jonathan start to clean out your desk!

I think that the council members need to be more careful regarding who they target. The Union is stronger than the council and as long as there is no performance review process, they (the council) are tredging through mucky waters. Set up a performance review process and then take action as needed. Harassment of an employee is on of the unions favorite arguments.

Remember:
This whole attack on Rosenthal from Matthews appears to have started merely as a smoke screen to divert attention away from her recommended appointment of a man charged with two felonies to the Charter Revision Committee (who also was her chief campaign advisor).
Bad government Ms. Junior Councilor.

I wonder what Little Miss hissy Fit is thinking now: he could have been gone if she wasn't so concerned with control.

What will this cost Bristol in legal fees. JR IS WAY TO SMART FOR THIS BUNCH.

I've known John for quite a while and he's always been very friendly, nice and seemingly diligent in his work. And although he may be just another over-paid public bureaucrat I'm glad to hear he came out prepared and with at least one good reference. It sounds like he made the city councilors (whom apparently were trying to score political points for themselves) look sub-par.

just received an anonymous birthday card from an anonymous person, except that we both know who we both are - well, at least it was a Hallmark card - thanks for the thoughts.

I hope that all the CHALLENGERS, both parties, make and play tapes of this fiasco once a week starting Sept 1, 2011.

The people should not forget things like this!

You mean the council-woman who told the Library Dircetor not to "mess with" her? The same one who said if Firestone leaves Bristol, "so be it"? Or the same council-woman who labeled the department heads "the fab five" and tried to have them all canned?

And you mean the guy who tried to have the city government completely changed around for this wrong-headed COO idea?
You must be on drugs!

Anonymous said...

If they had a script, like back in the Zoppo/Minor era, they wouldn't have looked so foolish.

Anonymous said...

Rosenthal is killing Bristol. He's just another union hack who is in way over his head with the job. Just sitting there and collecting a paycheck. He has somehting on Ward, thats why Ward is not doing anything about it.

With Zoppo and Minor, it did happen.

They kept Rosenthal in office.

I think you need to stop being so negative, crass and insulting and perhaps get some therapy.

I would thank you for your input but I see nothing of substnace coming from your non-constructive, self-loathing remarks. I pity you.

so where was all of the experience of the veteran councilmembers, mccauly, block and cockayne? the most blind leading the less blind - not a real clear/pretty picture.

If the previous mayor had been listened to, this issue would have been resolved long ago.

Dear Negatively Wrong/Cuckoo Conservative:

Save your pity for your Momma; she needs it more than anyone else in this entire Universe. I can only imagine how much therapy she has needed since you were ejected from her womb.

3:30 - at least you have the benefit, based upon my interpretation of your posting, of having someone who either likes you so much or dislikes you so much, that they went to the expense of buying a Hallmark card, plus a stamp, and the effort to mail it to you.
Evidently, you were successful in pissing them off or being their idol.
Great job either way.

I believe Bristol needs a new Economic Development Director. The fundamental question is whether or not this City is better or worse since Jonathan Rosenthal took that position years ago. I think Bristol is worse. Today we find a 17 acre seagull refuge where the Centre Mall once stood, empty downtown storefronts and plenty of unused industrial space. I'm in agreement with City Councilor Kate Matthews regarding Mr. Rosenthal's lack of interpersonal skills. I and my family had to deal with him in the Bugryn eminent domain fiasco. I, like Councilor Matthews, felt like he treats others condescendingly, or as the Councilor says "like a child." I, from attending the numerous eminent domain court proceedings, find him to be deceiving, dishonest and lacking a sence of ethics-- the ability to determine right from wrong. Sure, if Bristol needs someone to go on the witness stand and oust octagenarians from the homes and property they've lived on and owned for six decades, he's your man. He'll even testify this prime land, after being titled to the City, is now actually worth very little to the reculantly leaving senior citizens! The honesty and job performance of Mr. Rosenthal have been questioned for years. It's time for him to go, as well as a few others. Granted, Mr. Rosenthal had to do what Frank Nicastro wanted, but Frank's decisions are not always right for Bristol. Even some Bristol Democrats know Frank makes decisions that are good for Frank, not necessarily Bristol. Everyone has made their mistakes in the past. I have as well, but not to the degree where I have to examine my honesty, integrity and job performance. I don't think Mr. Rosenthal or Mr. Nicastro have done anything good for this City. I believe they are self-serving, at our expense, and it's time for some new real leadership. The bottom line says their track record has been poor. Time for a change.

vengence said...

11:16 - you should never be up this late at night, it blurs your vision.
You have a personal vendetta against the economic development director which has nothing to do with Kate's personal vendetta against him.
the only likenesses are that they are both personal vendettas, get over it, both of you.

Mr. Dudko,

Let it go already. The reality is that you and your family were paid a handsome for the land. Much more than market value so enough of "I am a victim... woo is me" already.

No one cares about this anymore and your constant whining at City of Bristol meetings is not moving Bristol forward.

It's over and nothing is going to change what happened so dry your eyes and move on already.

Find closure and stop embarrassing yourself.

You really shouldn't talk about a person's mother. And mine wouldn't listen or care about the opinion of low-life scum like you in a billion years.

Concerned Constructive Conservative said...

Dudko is correct about the land-grab that was committed against his family. Not only was it an abuse of power by the government, but the whole industrial park idea at this time was and still is a wild waste of the tax-payer's money. It'll be decades before or if ever the money spent on that wrong-headed project is ever recouped. And that's beside the fact the the entire "eminent domain" thing was and is a travesty. I love the idea of promoting industry but there were other methods and other places to do so,

This council is making bristol look like fools

Craig Minor said...

Actually the Bugryn family ended up getting just appraised value for their land, not more, because by law that is the most the City can pay for land taken by eminent domain. The City initially offered them slightly more than appraised value if they would sell us the land voluntarily. The family chose to reject that offer, which was their right, but it ended up costing them a lot of money.

COUNCIL SCREWS UP AGAIN. We need a vote of no confidence on this group.

Anonymous said...

1:30

Will McCauley initiate the no-confidence vote?

Or is he waiting for direction from Zoppo?

Anonymous said...

McCauley will definitely have to run it by Zoppo first. As evidenced by his rambling at the council meeting...he just can't pull it together when he has to think for himself!

Anonymous said...

The city did real good with this land just like the mall land they needed. What a joke and were suppose te take these idiots serious.

Anonymous said...

ZOPPO a lot smarter then two gop guys.

Anonymous said...

This council is the worst in bristol history. ROSENTHAL will educated these guys and end up on top again. Moving bristol in reverse.

gulp said...

4:11 - tough to talk and choke on your words at the same time.

Anonymous said...

This council cant be taking serious there such a bunch of screw ups.

Anonymous said...

March 10,8:39.....Cockayne for Mayor??? you can't be serious. His only agenda is re-election and could care less how he gets there. He claims to be a fiscal conservative but has shown he is no different than any other politician. The mad dog is really a lap dog.
The city council is a complete joke, they just continue to spend money Bristol does not have (mall ,schools) and will leave the hard working taxpayers holding the bag with higher taxes. I agree with the post of.... NO CONFIDENCE!!

Anonymous said...

Nice try, painting Cockayne as not fiscally conservatve and being pro union. He is the biggest propnent of GASB 45 - which the unions were against. He pushed for the COO in hopes of adding an educated person at the top to manage city business, add a level of accountability and fiscal reponsibility, which the Unions were against. He has never gotten a Union endorsement, nor will he ever. He has voted against almost all contracts and raises. It is probably union guys who hate him trying to paint him as pro-union believing it is the kiss of death for his conservative support. It is laughable.

Concerned Constructive Conservative said...

Cockayne has made some terrific suggestions regarding reviewing department heads (reported in today's Hartford Courant). It's a long time that this type of process took place.

What's interesting is that recently the left-wing media (which is generally all the "main-stream" media") have been publishing stories how (in their opinions) that private sector business experience doesn't translate well into government. Well in this case it certainly does. Only in government na-na land do highly compensated department heads get spared the yearly (or more frequent) review process).

Kudos to Cockanye!

Anonymous said...

Take a trip to City Hall and see the new "Jonathan Strut"!

Anonymous said...

Why limit it to strutting? Jonathan Rosenthal sure does drive a nice flashy car. I guess he needs to show off on his way home to ritzy Easton CT every day. Does the city pay his insurance and commuting mileage?

For people defending Rosenthal, don't you get it, this lazy bum DOES NOT CARE ABOUT BRISTOL, we're just his gravy train meal ticket.

Anonymous said...

What's laughable is ANYONE gullible enough to believe that Cockayne isn't in bed with the unions, and he'd probably cozy up to anyone else who will help him further his political career. Mad dog is more like a slimey snake.

Anonymous said...

Lets see what Cockyane does. Three years ago he tried now hes a puppy for Ward the union and stortz his new best friend.

Anonymous said...

There is a big difference between fiscal conservative and anti union.
Cockayne is anti union but is hardly fiscally conservative. He is no different than any other politician in Bristol....spend taxpayers money on projects we cannot afford (2 new schools, the former mall project). He claims to be pro taxpayer,so why does he agree with building 2 schools with money Bristol does not have??? He is failing the taxpayers of Bristol because we will ultimately pay for these schools by tax increases. A true fiscal conservative believes in lower taxes and not spending what you do not have!!!

Anonymous said...

Being fiscally conservative does not mean no spending you idiot. It means being just that - conservative with our money. Sometimes money has to be spent. You must be a senior citizen who went to school in brand new buildings with state of the art electric lights, well guess what, century old buildings are not going to cut it any more.

Being fiscally conservative means prioritizing where money gets spent. It means looking closely at contracts and making sure they are not simply rubber stamped. It means holding department heads accountable. It means voting against buying property to improve the entry way to Rockwell.

I guess you wouldn't be happy unless they said no to everything. You have to find a balance and unfortunately that sometimes means spending to keep things heading in the right direction. Sometimes it is an investment now so we grow in the future.

Anonymous said...

Cockyane is a spoiled little mommas boy with no direction except to call the news media and tell whats happening. Then gets his name in the paper.

Anonymous said...

Council is mum on the budget too!

Do they have any ideas as to what might be done?

Anonymous said...

9:16 You must be Cockayne himself. It sounds like someone struck a nerve.
You said it, find balance...Ok how about a balanced budget which Bristol does not have. And you call other people idiots ...find a mirror.

To Mr. Minor:

The Middle Street Bugryn property the city took from my family by eminent domain went for a paltry $58,000 an acre by Frank Nicastro and the rest of his cronies. At that time, a decade earlier my family was offered over $100,000 an acre by a private individual and we rejected that offer. My neighbor Winstanly Enterprises, while eminent domain proceedings were going on, was offering their Middle Street frontage for $500,000an acre. Can any of you get it! They liked where they lived. They're in their 80's and for god's sake wanted to live there till they died, always good taxpaying citizens for over 60 years. Let me take your home, car, bank or investment accounts and I'll tell you how much I'll give you for it. I'll do just as Bristol did and hire appraisers to low-ball it's actual value. You know thanks to the zoning commission all of the land wasn't taken. We were left with about 8 acres, not where our homes were, but less desireable land bordering Emment Street on the back of the large lot and selling it privately it went for $212,000 an acre. Get out you caculator and find out how much my family was stolen. I know they never wanted to move. Money WAS NOT the issue. I'll remember being in my Aunt Nellie's kitchen when you and Ms. Zoppo were urging us to leave and I said this Middle Street homestead could be transformed into a business spot someday. You both told me no and I knew you both were on an adgenda from the mayor's office. I guess you've never seen any old properties tranformed, it happens all the time. I'd like people to know the truth and I appereciate anyone, as you did, not hiding behind labeling themselves as anononymous. Now it's six years since they've left the homes they loved and there's not ONE business on their land. Would you or anyone like this happening to you?
