Glassman backs busway

The other day, Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Mary Glassman talked with WNPR's John Dankosky for his "Where We Live" radio show. At the tail end of the show, Dankosky asked her about her stance on the proposed $573 million busway between Hartford and New Britain, a plan many oppose in Bristol.
Here's what Glassman said:
“There’s federal funding in place right now.  I’ve had repeated conversations with the commissioner of the of transportation. That money cannot be re-allocated, that’s new start money.  So, if we switch gears again, we’re going to lose out on those federal funds.  So, I think it’s an opportunity to look at the busway, we have to keep those projects moving forward – we have to be a multi-modal state.”
She threw in a mention, too, that a rail study for Bristol is needed.

O.K. - Mary says the money can't be shifted but State Senator Jonathan Harris told the Bristol DTC last month that it can. Who's right?

what ever said...

One of the big contractors must be bank-rolling her campaigns just like RINO Tim Stewart's.

Senator Harris is flat out wrong! In a recent letter to Congressman Larson, FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff confirmed that the new starts funds intended for the busway cannot be shifted. No chance, no how.

We need this jerk Glassman as our governor like we need a hemorrhoid.

RINO Tim Stewart has gotten NB in better fiscal shape than most towns in the state. Somehow I don't think he's a RINO. Supporting a busway or rail does not make one a RINO, nor does it make one a conservative. CT needs mass transit, and the busway is just a small part of it, along with rail to Bristol in the long run.

Wrong RINO lover!

A conservative belives in fiscal restraint. An American conservative believes in private enterprise and free-market solutions. A conservative and the Republican Party which generally follows conservative principles would/should not be for the wrong-headed, worthless waste of tax-payer money called the Hartford-New Britain Bus-way.

"Hi I'm Mary Glassman. Besides being an ultra-liberal socialist, I listen to over-paid government bureaucrat stooges like the head of the DOT, who's almost as clueless and useless as me".

Mary, please get your advice from Mike Nicastro next time.

The latent anti-Semitism in nien frau's comment (3/16@9:38 AM) is repulsive and uncalled for. Steve, please show some good taste and remove it immediately.

Nicastro Lover:

You probably don't realize how dumb you sounded. You're saying that Glassman should not listen to a wide array of transportation experts with no vested interest; instead, she should listen to an amateur local business booster with zero experience in transportation and, for that matter, zero experience in economic development before he got hired by the Chamber. I have no opinion on the bus vs. train controversy, but what you said was downright stupid.

Referring to someones heritage is hardly being "anti" anything. You are a muck-raker and should be ashmed of yourself. Get a sense of humor.

Good point. He probably doesn't.

But I don't approve of your's either and that should worry you as much or more than the former worries me.
