Colapietro challenger emerges

A political newcomer – Jason Welch, 37, of Bristol – is taking aim at the office held by 17-year incumbent state Sen. Tom Colapietro, a Bristol Democrat.
Welch, an attorney, said Tuesday that it’s crucial the state set itself on a course for future growth by cutting both spending and taxes.
“I don’t think we have a lot of time to get the ship righted,” Welch said during an interview at the Riverside Avenue office of city Republican Chairman T.J. Barnes.
Colapietro, who has represented the 31st District since 1992, said he’s never heard of Welch, but “everybody’s got a right to run.”
“I don’t really care who runs against me,” he said. “If they think they can do better, and they can convince voters, they can have the job.”

Don't we have enough lawyers in Hartford already???

Lets see the republicans dropped out of the race last election and cost the taxpers 28,800 dollars. And T.J. filed a dumb complaint that isn't going anywhere therfore costing the taxpayers more money and so on . They really are good at wasting taxpayers money. And their beloved Ed Kraweicki got fined 6,000 dollars. Boy do they piss away taxpayers dollars.
And they are the watchdogs? Looks more like the fox wannabees in the Hen House.

Who ? Another Real Estate lawyer ? Heaven help us.

Sen. Tom Colapietro has never met a tax increase he didn't like, or to exert more control over us.

He'll easily be re-elected because we're stupid.

Not sure how last year by dropping out of the race cost Tax Payers 28500 as not a ballot was printed. Tom took 85K from the state to run a campaign in which he was un-opposed, is that not wasting Taxpayer money??
As to the complaint, Tom voted for these election laws and it is quite clear that he had to file after a declaration of candidacy, seeing as there is no definition as to what a "declaration" is, the law is open to interpretation. If Tom doesn't like the law, then maybe he should not have voted for the law in the first place. Pretty good example of why YOU should read the law before you vote for it....

How does Krawiecki being fined 6k cost the state money. Seems it cost him 6k and the state made out.

I will vote for no one who has voted to increase my taxes.

Seems more like a personal thing than a political thing with the Republicans.

Ed didn't just volunteer to pay the fine, it took many hours of investigation and staff time, just like it will take time to review and act on TJs frivilous complaint.

isn't it somewhat two-faced that you republicans are making a stink about an election treasurer's procedural mistake versus one that was obviously well thought out to personally benefit one of your own?
Wow, absolutely amazing.

10:46 You are showing your partison ignorance. Who paid for all the signs and brochures etc.? The state because the republican dropped out.

Anonymous said...

10:46 we all know you will only vote for a republican. Try something new will ya ?

Anonymous said...

10:46 when are you gonna realize that we don't fall for your sensless lies. Show us where Tom formally announced. Picky, picky, picky.

Anonymous said...

Do these Republican hacks know any issues?

Anonymous said...

Who was it that dropped out and cost 28,000?

Anonymous said...

NO ONE EVER COLLECTED 28000. This is some ones sick political mind at work. Show us in writing that the money was given.

Jerk admit it you guys are the real spendthrifts. Look it up you are sooooo smart! It's only sick if it's true which it is.

5:08 pm you are the sick one. You are in denial. It's public record truth unlike what you're used to.

Anonymous said...

You don't mean Joe "I'm throwing in the towel" Geladino, do you?

All this Democrat blathering cracks me up. I think it is great that there are two candidates to choose from. Maybe another one or two will step up and make it even more interesting.

Anonymous said...

Yup that's the one!

I beleive JOE G had a good reason for leaving politics his grandaughter was killed. So are we going to pick on a guy whos suffering. TOM BARNES had no reason to take any money for that seat.

Anonymous said...

Joe is still in politics, lurking around.

And didn't the unfortunate death occur after he dropped out?

If I remember right, the excuse was business out of town.

Anonymous said...

But he did. Look at the truth !

Anonymous said...

Nothing you can say to change the lying 6:34's mind. Has a bad case of tunnel vision. Only sees what he wants so why bother ?

Anonymous said...

6:34 didn't lie about anything. Don't be so full of hate.

Anonymous said...

3:44 Oh yes you did. Hate comes from you hating so I dislike you and what you stand for. Nothing !!!!!

Is he still running, or did he switch to the 78th already?

I hope that all of you posters look back on the comments that are on here - what a sniffling bunch of snot-nosed, self-centered, ego-burdened, lame-brained fools - on both (all) sides.
