Senior wellness clinic

Anyone who doubts the power of the press, or questions whether Bristol needs a newspaper, should look at what happened when Bristol Hospital decided to shut down the wellness clinic at the Beals Senior-Community Center.
By focusing attention on the story, the Bristol Press clearly showed both hospital and city leaders why keeping the clinic open mattered to so many struggling seniors -- and because of that they found a way to save it.

Excellent job Steve! Hats off to you and Mayor Ward for saving the day!

Actually, Jackie Majerus wrote the stories that mattered.

Thanks Jackie!

Let's give John Gill some credit for his efforts. He came forward before others to support saving the clinic.

4:57 - gill if you were so concerned, you would have been at the senior center today - oops, that would have meant that you knew where the senior center is.

"Let's give John Gill some credit for his efforts."

No need. John already tried to give himself all the credit. Nice try Mr. Gill, but we need a whole lot more than someone calling "firsties."

Firsties! Firsties! Firsties!

It continues to amaze me how people can continue to be so negative and judgmental with their comments. If we do track the stories, it appears pretty apparent that Ward did not know of the senior wellness clinic until the week it was announced and did not bother to comment on it until the press release by Gill. So why don't you actually do your homework first instead of accusing people of not doing enough. Seems a single comment did more good than your complaining of "firsties" (really?) or of where Gill spent his day

Difference was that ward initiated positive input with positive results instead of political rhetoric.

Isn't that his job as mayor? If he wants full credit, maybe he should have done it BEFORE it became a huge issue, and acting on it at least when he first hears of it, rather than comment in the paper that there's nothing that he can do. Please, give me a break.

Ward wouldn't have done diddly-squat about the matter if this wasn't an election year. His reelection committee told him he needed to get involved on the issue.

Ward only jump on this because Gill was involved and Ward didn't want to get shown up. Plus its election year, so Ward will move his butt a little quicker until November is over.

10:27pm - please Mayor, stop patting yourself on the back.

How many other issues are going unattended and unaddressed?

Too bad the Republicans are not involved on a regular basis.

It is obvious that someone leaked this issue to Gill: how else would he know?

Any Republicans involved at the Senior Center?

11:08 -- Nobody leaked it to Gill. He read about it in the paper and then commented.
