A new week, a new candidate?

The suspense is just killing me.
Who will the Republicans find to run for mayor next?
I'm pretty sure on a first name, but have seen four variations on the last name since last Wednesday. I'm holding on to what little I know until I am sure.
Just like me, the whole town, no doubt, is on pins and needles. Maybe today we'll all find out who's going to join the race against Democratic Mayor Art Ward and independent hopeful Gary Lawton.
It's so gosh-darn exciting!

How'd they choose this one? Pick the name out of a jar or throw a dart? What a joke!

Clearly this post shows just where the press loyalty LIES !!!!

Steve Collins said...

OK, NOT mine, where does the press loyalty lie? I can't wait to find out.

Gary L. Lawton said...

I want to send my best wishes and good luck to the new Republican Candidate whoever that person may be

zero is still zero said...

how can you be loyal to nothing?

Ward has nothing to worry about except for the economy in Bristol, the loss of jobs in Bristol, the Unions in Bristol, the "good ole boy" network in Bristol, the out of control spending in Bristol, etc.

Does he still really want this job???

Anonymous said...

Of course he wants the job - he gets paid to do nothing.

The economy and loss of jobs in Bristol, as well as the rest of the country, is the result of the RECESSION, not Ward (who BTW has done an excellent job in spite of it)...much, much better than any of the R's "candidates d'jour."

Thats the problem with the Republican leadership in Bristol...or lack of leadership...They never have a plan/agenda when they run people...They are all over the place. They need a platform to run these folks. No plan will mean that none of the Republicans will win. They need to come up with a solid plan on how to control spending at the Board of Ed - how do they plan on growing the tax base in the city - what is the plan to get people working in the city - I guess that goes with increasing the tax base, but what are they going to do? Any of this he said she said will not work for the Republicans if they want to win. They need a solid idea and all the candidates need to speak from the same platform. So GOP what is the plan to move Bristol in the righ direction? And don't say keep taxes low or don't raise taxes. That ship has sailed.

I heard today from a reliable source that the new default (anti-Stortz) GOP candidate is Kim Keating-Corriveau. I think the Dems should have their celebration victory party at Nuchies before the election this year. This is a one party town for sure.

The Indy candidate may actually get more votes than the GOP candidate this time around. What is it that the Reps don't get in this city?

Anonymous said...

Clearly this post tells it like it is.

Hey Steve:
Print one article you have written on the Dems with that kind of cynicism. Yes it is unfortunate that Johnson pulled out. As you have stated, it's health reasons with Gill maybe serious, show me an article where you have even come close to the contempt that you have displayed in this and I will believe you are "fair and balanced."

Steve Collins said...

Cynicism? Sarcasm, sure, but there's no cynicism about it.
And the Dems are always convinced I'm against them....

Check your source again. Kim is not the candidate.

If Bill wants to run so badly why doesn't he announce? The issue isn't a question of anti Stortz it is a question of Bill being Bill.

Kym Keating Corriveau no longer lives in Bristol. Nice try Stortz

Anonymous said...

Stortz is done ...stick a fork in him and turn him over...done finite gone history no way no how...bet on it.

WWW..What has he accomplished besides getting closer to having his poension plan from the city stacked for his HORRIBLE preformance as a mayor? He did not do anything but give the unions their pay raises so they inturn will try to re-elect him. If that happens Ward hits taxpayers for a HUFGE pension benefit. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THINKING...he is using the tax payers to feather his own bed. What a loser we are as tax payers if we let that happen. At least Nicastro did something for the city.

This bias against Republicans is not why I quit subscribing to the Press. I quit because you constantly say you're not biased when it so SO obvious that you are. The reader is supposed to be so stupid that he/she doesn't realize that all the articles are slanted? It's insulting to people of any affiliation. Be honest and say the Press is a Democrats' newspaper.

I hope a woman runs, woman know how to get a handle on spending and budgeting. The good ole boys is no longer working. Time for young new blood.

"At least Nicastro did something for the city". That statement has to be the funniest statement I have ever heard. I might have been in high school at the time Nicastro was mayor and could not vote - but let me tell you - he screwed the city in more ways then one! He never raised taxes. We are in this mess because of him! The city looks like crap because of him! The only reason he stayed that long as mayor is because he had every senior voting for him because he never raised taxes like he should have. Please Frank was a disaster and Frank only thinks about himself! A person that truly cares about the city and not about keeping $100,000 year job should know that lay-offs need to happen and needs to happen fast.

Anonymous said...

And Ward is doing the same thing Nicastro did. Ward is wrong for Bristol.

Anonymous said...

i don`t care who runs my vote is not with ward "sorry good ole boy"

Anonymous said...

I do care and I'm voting for Ward!

THE PARTY IS OVER FOR THE UNIONS.

I have never seen the Bristol GOP in such disarray. It's getting to be a joke. Who's the leader of this group of clowns, Mortimer Snerd?

August 24, 2009 4:12 PM: Stortz and everyone else knows that ding-bat doesn't live here anymore. Get a life!

7:25 - mayor ward has to be the mayor for (10)ten years in order to be eligible for a city pension, not (2)two, not (4) four, not (6)six nor (8)eight - (10)TEN.

If I remember correctly, Stortz chose not to run, you didn't finish him. I believe that if he had run in 2007 he would have won.

But the decision was his. Not yours, or the Town Committees

What have you done but bad mouth people? Have you ever won anything, or even run?
