Press police reporter departs Friday

Friday marks the last day at The Bristol Press for Amy Talit, who has had the Bristol police and courts beat for the paper since October 2004. Amy is moving on to pursue other opportunities.
There's no word on a successor yet.

Amy has always been a positive professional in her reporting. We should wish her well in whatever she chooses to do in the future.

The Police Department will miss her.

I don't remember seeing her name in the paper ever!

Is there anyone left there at the Press, Steve?

Aren't you using the term "reporter" rather loosely, Steve?

There is no doubt that whatever actual college graduate they find, the new cops reporter will be better than Amy Talit.

Is there anyone left? Yes.
Both Jackie Majerus and I remain, though we're frequently asked why. Editor Bill Sarno is also hanging in there.
We also have sports reporters and photographers.
And I'm told that a new reporter is starting on Monday, which is happy news.

Last one out of the 99 Main Street building; set the thermostat on 58' so the pipes won't freeze and turn off the lights.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Amy.

Amy was a very fair and accurate reporter. She never played the controversy card.

I wish her well.

I wasn't going to comment at all, but that last one forces my hand. Amy was the least accurate reporter I ever knew and I have known many. She combined laziness with a lack of talent.

"The Police Department will miss her"

Yeah I heard she was a cutie (looks wise). Maybe she used her looks to get "the scoop"?

I see you have a lot of cops reading your blog, Steve.

HA! She never got a scoop in all the time she was at the paper. I read both the Press and the Courant regularly and the Courant more than kicked her butt on every major police story (and the little ones, too, come to think of it.) This was in stark contrast to the Press coverage of the rest of the city and even some of the other towns. Plymouth, Burlington, Farmington, even Southington had better coverage in the Press than the Courant -- except when it came to cops.
Oh, sure, she had the "Officer of the Year" nailed down, but when it came to exposing problems in the police department, of which there are many, she was remarkably silent. Maybe the Press can regain some respect in police coverage if there is a new hire coming in.

Finally.

Talit ignored the controversy because she was obsessed with with being in the cops' good graces. Talit got her behind kicked by the Courant because she was not a journalist. I hope she is off to be a police dispatcher or something akin to that.

I hope she doesn't take on a position with any kind of responsibility -- or one where accuracy or integrity is needed.

Good news! Amy was awful.

What happened to Katie Shea?

Amy once reported that the Bristol Police were replacing their 9MM service weapons with 40MM service weapons. I'm not sure how anyone could carry a 40MM gun on their hip.

Anonymous said...

We have been carrying 40 mm for years.

You sure you're not carrying a .40 caliber? 40 MM would be a a bullet about 1.5 inches in diameter. That would require a huge gun to fire. You can read the article here. http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-228395.html

The entire news department is a disgrace. Steve Collins and Jackie Majerous are still there ... but are constantly asked why. It's not a compliment. They want you out. Thank God for Bob Montgomery or there would be nothing to read in the news section.

Wow, what a jerk. He comes on here to your blog and tells you that you are a disgrace. I am sure you know how much to value that opinion but I want you to know that most of us recognize that you are working hard to let us know what is going on in town. Thank you, Steve, for this blog and your efforts.
