Larson blasts Bush for cozying up to oil execs

A new press release from U.S. Rep. John Larson, the East Hartford Democrat whose 1st District includes Bristol:

Today, Democrats in Congress reacted strongly to the President’s call to increase offshore drilling for oil. Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01) ¸Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, said:
“President Bush’s attempt to politicize the oil crisis that is wreaking havoc on average American’s ability to make ends meet is uncalled for and poorly informed. Time and again we have shown that more drilling for oil will do nothing to lower the prices at the pump for the millions of people who are suffering today. In fact, drilling in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge will not produce a drop of oil for ten years. And even after waiting ten years for, the drilling won’t lower gas prices by more than a few pennies per gallon.
“The President’s speech was nothing but a gift to his friends at the big oil companies. And, it is these oil companies who already have rights to drill for 70% of the oil on the Outer Continental Shelf. They have leases to drill on 40 million acres of offshore land, yet they have put only 7 million acres into production. Why should we open more lands to oil exploration, when oil companies are not utilizing the lands they have? This is part of a trend of stockpiling leases to control oil prices and this New Direction Congress can not support it.
“The President should keep his focus on ways we can actually lower prices and help American families today. For seven years he has allowed speculators to run rampant in the energy markets. It is time for that to end.”

Here's an Associated Press story about President Bush's comments on oil drilling.

John Larson is a clue-less blowhard.

How much is gas in Iraq compared to the U.S.A.? I say we take billions of barrels of oil in return for all the useless money we've dumped into that war and into rescuing and transforming Iraq. I mean, what's in it for us?

Well let's see:

1) An enemy of the United States who was at the least was contriving to own WMD, no longer exists.

2) We have an opportunity to establish a democracy in the nation that has the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world.

3) We have killed and destroyed numerous Al Qaeda (radical Sunni Muslim) people (Saddam Hussein was a Sunni Muslim as well).

4) Prat, Sikorsky and Colt (two staples of the Connecticut economy) are doing very well as a result of our military build up.

-I guess your question "June 18, 2008 1:31 PM" is what is in it for YOU immediately, right? Well that's typical so I don't blame you for being short-sighted.

Larson is a complete jack ass for opposing more drilling. He is beyond contempt.

However, HE is completely guilty of "cozying" up to environmental, leftist extremists.

3:17 - so I guess over 4,000 deaths and hundreds of thousand wounded Americans mean nothing?

I don't understand why you'd ask that? The poster at 1:31 PM asked "what's in it for us?".

I didn't even say if the sacrifice was worth "it" or not. But the fact is that there is something "in it for us". OK?

Larson and his democrat cronies have boxed the US oil industry into a corner. The CHINESE have inked a deal with CASTRO to allow drilling 50 miles from US shores.

But the US congress will not allow US oil companies to drill offshore, in the 48 continental states or in Alaska.

Then B. Hussein Obama says that drilling won’t help us for at least five years. DUHHH! But maybe if you idiots had acted five years ago we wouldn’t be in this mess today.

The democrat party has weakened our nation, strengthened our enemies and driven us to the poorhouse.

Let’s elect a democrat president, a democrat house and a democrat senate.

Then we can all move to Canada.

4:55 I think you should all move to Canada any way. They wouldn't put up with your anonymous mouths. They'd probably deport youback to here. (UGH)

For the heck of it, how about we believe those that say drilling now and building refineries will not help for a number of years and when they do it will only bring the price down a few pennies a gallon.

How about we start drilling and refining for the sole purpose of not giving the wackos who hate us billions of dollars! That, in and of itself, makes it a no brainer to start now!!!

Even if we move forward with alternative fuels it's going to take many years for people to buy new cars and switch their home and business heating systems over to systems that can run off alternative fuels.

This is absolutely a no-brainer.
