Park appointments go through after all

After my press deadline, city councilors emerged from an executive session to learn from a city lawyer that the charter requires that park commissioners be appointed this month.
Of course, that didn't mean it had to be done tonight.
But city Councilor Ken Cockayne switched sides this time around to allow a 4-3 vote to reappoint Lori DeFillippi, Tom Ragaini and Pat Nelligan to the Park Board.
The three holdouts -- Councilors Craig Minor, Kevin McCauley and Cliff Block -- wanted to wait for another meeting later in the month, still hoping to force Mayor Art Ward to remake the Park Revitalization Committee.
Ward called the whole episode "unbelievable."
And so we know now that Cockayne is already the swing vote, the one guy everyone needs. That makes him a pretty powerful figure for a freshman Republican.

Powerful in which way - he caved to a technicality? They could have given Mayor Ward time to flesh out what he wants to do with Park Revitalization and then reappointed Park Board members then. And if they are already serving, why does a reappointment have to happen in December? I don't get any of this.

Powerful in the sense that you have three guys voting against Ward -- Minor, Block and McCauley -- and two who will join Ward much of the time (Nicastro and Rimcoski). That makes it 3-3. Whichever way Cockayne goes wins.
It will happen on more than just this vote. Just watch.

Steve, you overestimate Nicastro's loyalty to Ward. They both have big egos, and Nicastro basically just doesn't care for Ward. So it is just as likely that Nicastro will oppose Ward. If you look closer, you'll see that Nicastro and Ward have different agendas. Nicastro can't stand most of Ward's cronies, it just happens that he didn't act on it tonight, perhaps out of respect to Ward having the first real council session as the new Mayor.

too bad that decency cannot prevail with these jerks but then again, what did we elect, the zoppo ding-a-lings - minor, mccauley and block - what a bunch of absolute losers? will block ever seize the opportunity to show that he has a set of b---- or will ellen and barbara always whip him into submission? minor is just an ellen ego trip gone awry - look in my mirror - and mccauley is nothing short of a complete lap dog, pug, at best.
cockayne has no idea of today, forget tomorrow and frank loves frank, that hasn't changed in umpteen years - mike is the one who says what he believes in even if I don't always agree with him. make your own mind up on ward because I am still out on him.

Minor, McCauley & Block voted to hold off because their puppet master (Zoppo) is still pulling their strings. Its a known fact Minor does not like Defillippi because she tells him to his face what she thinks of him, and she is not afraid to stand up to his whiner ways. To bad these 3 guys just don't get it - they work for the taxpayers not themselves! As for the Park Rev. progress is still being made and what does the park board have to do with the park rev. committee anyway?

Be interesting to see what each of the park board members think about the three not approving their reappointments. Hey steve, can you get the scoop?

Minor obviously didn't support defillippi because of personal reasons, maybe because his lack of manhood when he stepped over the line and used vowel language in front of her daughter has something to do with it? She blasted him on that and its obvious he still holds a grudge, plus the fact he is voting the way Ellen told him to vote. I voted for Merrick!!

Lori Defillippi loves her aura of being a veteran much more than others do. She is difficult to work with whether its at City hall or the Legion. There is something to be said for volunteers but not every volunteer is a good volunteer and I believe my fellow veteran Lori falls into the category sometimes with her ways of overwhelming people with how she wants to do things. When I see her name on a cmte sign up sheet at the Legion I sign a different one.

The last poster obviously does not know defillippi. She volunteers her time to help veterans. You have a big chip on your shoulder and why, who knows - who cares.
She gives her time freely to help veterans at the Legion and she is always doing community awarness programs and even is the veteran service officer at the legion - and does not get paid for it. She is on the legion honor guard with other legion memebers and they don't get paif for it. Its all VOLUNTEER TIME. I love working with her. She is funny, classy, supportive, professional, shall I go on? Maybe you should not be at the legion if you cannot support your fellow veterans. Try working with them instead of bashing them.

Anon - what sign up sheets for committees at the Legion? I doubt you are a Legion member because there are not "sign-up" sheets.
Lair, lair! Now go crawl back into your hole.

No wonder people don't want to get involved helping their community. They get put down for volunteering their time.

what kind of political game is Minor, Block and Mccauley playing?
time to grow up boys or leave the sandbox. Talk about real trash.

Hey Steve, how did the three commissoners react to all of this?

Ragaini was the only one present. He was surprised, I think, but not upset. He said they'd just keep on serving until they were reappointed so it wasn't that big a deal, except symbolically.

As for the person who said I overestimated Nicastro's loyalty to Ward - I don't think Nicastro is loyal to Ward. He is fiercely loyal to Bristol, as he perceives it. But when Nicastro was mayor, he got along well with Ward. I don't think there's any real problem between the two of them.

Seems like Ward can't even do as well as Stortz did, at least for one year.

Anonymous said...

Of course Nicastro got along with Ward when Nicastro was Mayor. Now that it's reversed, it will be different.

Will McCauley call for a vote of "No Confidence"?

Nelligan, Ragaini and Defillippi are good people. Its a shame that they give their time volunteering for many things in this city and the best people on here can do is bash them.
Knowing these 3 indiviuals, it really doesn't matter what is said about them, they know what they need to do.
Good luck to all the bashers. I hope you find joy digrading people, because one day your life will mean something. Don't take your hate out on others becasue your life is meaningless.
