Another "do nothing" administration?

"Enough is enough with the politics," City Councilor Ken Cockayne said a few minutes ago.
He said that if Mayor Art Ward wants to remove him from the West Bristol School Building Committee, that's his right.
But, Cockayne said, it won't prevent him from speaking out for his district and the city, on the school site, the committee's membership and more.
He said, though, that he's worried about what's happening in city government.
Ward "is very quickly turning this into another Stortz administration, where the councilmen are blocking the mayor," Cockayne said.
Cockayne, a freshman Republican, said he's not going to take sides or play politics.
"I will not personally be involved in any shenanigans the mayor has with Craig Minor and Kevin McCauley," Cockayne said.
He also said that he doesn't understand where Ward is coming from on appointments to city boards.
Three days ago, Cockayne said, Ward pushed for the reappointment of three "same old, same old" park commissioners while today maintaining that the school site panel needs new blood.
"He's talking out of two sides of his mouth," Cockayne said.
"This is starting to become politics as usual," he added.
Cockayne said he won't join in.
"I am my own person. I am nothing to anyone. I will put Bristol first," Cockayne said. "I will not be part of any political games."

Political games? It's a mandate that there be a balanced committee. That's the only reason he's being replaced.

Cockayne, get over yourself.

Ken may be a freshman but he is showing more leadership than anyone else right now. It is going to be a long two years if these folks don't get their act together soon. Bristol deserves better!

I'm happy to see Ken read the earlier blog entry to script his assault on Ward.

Ken shouldn't have caved into Ward at the meeting.

This from a person who initially voted against the reappointment of people whom he didn't even know, as did Block.
Would seem to me that they was in kahoots with mcCauley and Minor - not politics (sic)?

There is no mandate that it be a balanced committee. That's just an excuse.

Ward is being vindictive. It's that simple.

this also from an elected official who participated in an illegal meeting to name appointees to the school committee - about as virgin as a prostitute.

Funny, I don't remember Kenny speaking out before, when a fellow Republican was getting hassled.

What is his agenda now?

for a guy who said that ward's word was gold - guess ken didn't get whatever it was that he wanted. That's not playing politics?

It is clear to me that Cockayne is doing what he can to tout his man Johnson and help his guru Mocabee.

And he says he is his own man?

I still say that Cockayne is a supporter of Zoppo, and is still following her lead.
Anything to hassle Ward is her motto, and she is good at getting others to do her dirty work.

The sad fact is that Ellen got over the election alot faster than her supporters did which may be a function of her personality or lack of, if she can move on with little emotion.

Good for you Ken Cocaine. It's about time you started acting like a Republican.

good for ken, bad for bristol

Not one person posting on here uses their name, why? If you are going to be so "educated" with your comments, at least you can do is stand up to them by including your names. Bunch of cry babies and whimps.

Absolutely NOT "bad for Bristol". That would true be if Ken "the Cock" submitted to the Dems. Dissent is GOOD for Bristol!!!!
Thanks Ken.

Ken never voted against reappointing Ward's buddies to the Park Board. All he did was initially vote to table them, until the Park Revitalization Committee was reinstated, and once he was assured this would happen in January by "his word is gold" Ward, Ken voted to reappoint them. All that was damaged was Ward's ego. And Ken's reward for coming to Ward's help later that night? He gets dumped from the School Building Committee. Ward needs to get his ego and temper under control and get into the game.

THIS PARTY HAS JUST STARTED.WATCH FOR 2009 SIGNS TO GO UP EVEN SOONER.

Ken "swing vote" Cockayne! I love it. Ken is a very vocal, shoot from the hip with the comments, kind of guy. He'll burn out and fade away fast. Just watch and see. It won't be too long before he slams his fist and storms out of a meeting just like Ken Johnson. He has a very low tolerance for frustration.

HOW SAD! Steve has attempted to provide us all with a great service by setting up a BLOG as a forum to discuss the issues. Instead he has to play baby sitter to all this negative crap. The purpose of this blog should be to have intellegent debates. What the blog has turned into is a place to cry about how bad everything in Bristol is, insult people willing to serve the public and whining. If Bristol is so bad leave or better yet, positively, get involved by volunteering your time (this may mean you would be part of a solution and not be able to sit back and just arm chair quarterback). Also for the "Ellen is behind everything" crowd and the "Art is a hack" crowd -- get over yourselves. The facts are that Ellen hasn't looked back and is busy moving on with her life, Minor is in charge of his own political agenda, Ken is a freshman council member who is thinking on his own and Art Ward was elected Mayor. Our city needs everyone's support not your childish behavior. Open your eyes -- Bristol is a great place to live.
Steve - thanks for keeping the BLOG going - maybe some day it will be a BLOG we can all be proud of.

I must confess that sometimes I read over the comments posted here and I think the whole thing might be better off without them.

I couldn't agree more. A lot of folks are just getting turned off by all the negative and unprofessional comments. I know a lot of folks saying that they don't look at the Blog anymore because of all the name calling. If it can't be said in a "agree to disagree manner" and with respect then maybe the answer is to not publish them at all. You may find a lot of folks coming back.

A follower of Zoppo? Must be another Ward follower posting, if you ask me. Ken Cockayne, like the other councilors, has a mind of his own. Before you say he doesn't know who these people are, you better find out first, because he knows more than people realize. Just because they disagree with Ward doesn't me someone else is pulling the strings. The same could be said about Ward and all the IOUs he owes to the political machine. Not every issue will be agreed upon, but that doesn't mean they can't get along. There would be something wrong with all of them if they voted to agree on every issue. They vote the way they do, because they feel it will help the city in the long run and the important thing is that Ward should not hold a grudge nor should any of the councilmen. Let's MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken Cockayne is a media hound.

Guess he is taking lessons from Nicastro.
