Colapietro says hands off to state Senate scandal

State Sen. Tom Colapietro said today that he received two interesting letters in the mail from former state Sen. Lou DeLuca (the one who just quit under fire):

This one signed by DeLuca

and this one, which DeLuca included with his own, from "distraught husband"

They both refer to the affair that has rocked the Senate this week after a columnist blew the whistle on it in a column in Sunday's Courant. The column revealed that the main legislative lobbyist for the Connecticut State University System was having an affair with a key legislative backer of a $1 billion bond package, namely state Sen. Thomas Gaffey, who is chairman of the Education Committee and vice chairman of the Higher Education Committee.
While some Republicans are calling for an investigation, Colapietro is dismissive.
Colapietro, a Bristol Democrat, said today that the "distraught husband" letter "sounds like sour grapes" and that the issue is a civil matter. He also called it "very poorly written."
But you can read the letters for yourselves (depending on your browser, you may find it easiest to download the letters and read them with normal picture viewing software, since they are in JPEG format). No reason a juicy scandal should be entirely removed from Bristol politics.

Of course it is no big deal to Colepietro. The person with the ethical lapse is a democrat. The fact that the person could have used their power to steer contracts toward a person they are involved with is of little consequence to him.

Ahhhh yes ..... Criminals in our educational and government systems . BUT !!!! they are democrats .... let's leave them alone .

They were probably also in a Union.

Read the letters fools. If you would be stupid enough to act on a unsigned letter from a convicted person we are really in trouble. Go tell it to someone who cares.AM

Hey Tom..If this were are Republican you would be all over it with your union hacks...

Where were you when Ernie Newton was hijacking the people of Bridgeport.

Start doing whats right for the State of Connecticut not just your liberal Democratic party.

Hmmm Deluca and Rowland are innocent and What did you say Colapietro did? What a bunch of Dingbats !!!!

Henry Raymond for Senate!

Raymond vs colapietro:

A battle to be the real bald guy???

No, not a big story Tom.. a Democrat Senator boing-ing a lobbyist. What a guy! I doubt the lobbyist wasn't "getting anything" for her services either huh?

I'd trust my daughter any which-way or form with Deluca instead of this pig. And that goes double (non-trust) for Ernie Newton.

So, Tom it is a non-story. A state Senator is a member of the Education committee and has some responsibility in determining where state funds go. This senator has a affair with an individual that benefits professionally from receiving state funding. That senator then recommends that the group the lobbyist works for gets state money. That group not only gets state money but gets the money without the usual oversight required by the state.

You're right nothing to see here. Ignore the man behind the curtain. The Great Ooze has spoken.

What ever happened to the real story here , or are the "M" lovers or "M" at it again? Normal politics even when they lose! Oh and isn't Henry Raymond a GREAT UNOIN man???

Looks like a great opening for Ken Johnson!

Let's not forget the many other issues that the state is facing right now and the fact that Tom Colapietro has been speaking out on zone gas pricing and other issues that affect us day-to-day. Of course this Gaffey thing is bad, but its not bad to the level that he should be distracted by it. Gaffey and the woman should pay the price and the Senate should continue to do its job.

What gaffney did was wrong and its wrong to say its no big deal. However the CSU chancellor and others acted in good faith in getting the bonding package. And that money is impotant for a higher education system that badly needs it.

I heard Mocabee is interested too.

Anonymous said...

Mocabee interested in what? Running for State Senate? That's the funniest thing I've hear all year. He wouldn't stand a chance.

Let Ken Johnson run, he needs the experience.

Any day now, Mocabee will announce that he is running, and also announce that Bobroske will manage his campaign.
