DeFillippi speaks out on Park Board appointments

Mayor & Council members,
It has always been with a sense of pride and dedication that I have served as a member of the Bristol Board of Park Commissioners; to the members of the Bristol City Council who supported my reappointment at last evening's City Council meeting, I say "thank you" for affording me the privilege of continuing as a member of the Bristol Board of Park Commissioners; for those council members who opted not to support my reappointment, I would only request, in your future decisions regarding (re)appointments, that you display the decency to obtain adequate information on the contributions of volunteers to city boards and/or commissions before deciding to use these individuals as "political pawns" for your own self-serving agendas, as you did with the me and the other two members of the Board of Park Commissioners last evening. Elected officials should not hinder volunteers from wanting to serve their community by such public displays.

Sincerely,
Lori DeFillippi
Park Commissioner

How about our mayor doing the same thing with other board and commission members, Ms. DeFillippi? If you're so adverse to being a political pawn, then perhaps you should extend your comments to our current mayor and encourage him to extend the hand of fairness to others. It goes both ways. It's obvious where your allegiance lies.

Thanks Ellen

Thanks Ellen, Craig, Kevin and Cliff!

That's right, Ms. DeFillippi, people who volunteer their time should not be used as political pawns and that goes for the Park Revitilization Committee that has done so much work, so remember it's not just about YOU! The mayor chose to do to the Park Revitilization Committee what was done to you and your committee, but I guess that's okay because he's your buddy. If you think we can't see that, then you're more naive than I thought.

"How about our mayor doing the same thing with other board and commission members", gee why not tell us what you are really talking about Minor!

Anonymous said...

I think you all need to read the statement again, she was talking about all volunteers! But obviously you are all blinded by your hate.
Try and have a nice day now.

Difillipi: You're clueless. Get a new hobby.

The Mayor already had plans to reinstitute the Park Revitalization committee in January. Maybe if Minor and Block had asked him what his intentions were since they were sooooo concerned about it, then they wouldn't have needed to be idiots last night.

Block better step away from the puppet masters and start standing on his own two feet. He's already getting shown up by Cockayne. That's not too good.

It's called COMMUNICATION.

Typical Deflippi drama and over-reacting.

You got reappointed Lori, was it necessary to send a letter to the press?

Really, are you that starved for attention?

Anonymous said...

Unlike Minor and the rest of his loser "yes-men" defillippi doesn't need attention like the drama they tried to create at the council meeting. Remember the clowns started all this by shooting off at the mouth. they deserve what they get.

Anonymous said...

The Park Revitalization effort was success. Now the rest of it should be turned over to the Park Board.

Anonymous said...

Hah Hah Hah, Mary. Lori doesn't "need attention"?? Lori is all about grabbing attention for herself. Wake up. Yo Lori, why don't you try something novel and just keep your mouth shut. The only time you ever say something is either to draw attention to yourself or to criticize others, usually because they disagree with you or don't kiss up to you. This letter you wrote is totally tactless and reveals you are a hypocrite, you apply one standard to your pal Artie and another standard to others.

Contrary to what ellen would have you believe, all of the work on Brackett Park and Stocks Playground was initiated during the couture administration when ward co-chaired the Park Revitalization with zoppo, not over the past two years. all that happened over the last two years was the dedication ceremonies and her trying to create the zoppo hall of fame on the robert's property. Time to get back to a responsible revitalization of our park system.

And how many of those Park Committee meetings did Ward attend?

Anonymous said...

Lori: Here's my response to you; PLEASE SHUT UP MA'AM!

It's pathetic actually that the best that Ward can do is these three. Lori Di-Felip-Out is obviously quite arrogant, self-righteous, and has some really bad ideas, but she may be some-what suitable to serve on a city board (possibly).

Nelligan and Ragaini may be decent guys, but they shouldn't be serving on anything more than the Little League Board. They are uneducated custodians! In my opinion, it's sad that these two individuals are actually the best Ward can choose to direct any type of public policy.

I have worked with Lori DiFillippi, Pat Nelligan, and Tom Ragaini on many activities over the years and have the highest respect for them as individuals and as members of the Park Board. What happened last night was not about them. It was about restoring citizen oversight to the $1.3 million dollar Rockwell Park revitalization project in a timely manner, to protect the taxpayers’ investment as well as the many, many hours devoted to this project by the members of the Park Revitalization Committee, which has been in limbo since November 6.

Shut up Craig - you are so full of it!!

Expfc & poster at 10:40pm - its amazing that the two of you stepped away from your pron long enough to say rude comments about a person you don't even know! Glad to see you both are giving your hands a break from something else.
Shameful that either of you can't use your real names but choose to hide behind fake ones (Cowards). It wouldn't matter to either of you, whom in this city tries to do good - you both have such hate and jealousy for this woman, that you cannot see past that. Now got back to your pron!

So Craig please explain your fake comment -if its not about the 3 of them, then what does reappointing them to the Park Board have to do with the Park Revitilization Committee?
You shot yourself in the foot trying to stack the votes to not reappoint them, trying to make some statement? By doing that you overlooked the Charter, and make yourself look like a real jerk. Of course you took Kevin and Block along with you.
So explain to us all how not reappointing the 3 of them has to do with the Park Rev. Committee, please.
Don't screw with pepoles lives.

Anonymous said...

Hey Craig remember what you said at the meeting?: So it wasn't about them? LETS SEE CRAIG -"WOULD NOT SUPPORT REAPPOINTING UNTIL WARD RECREATED THE PARK REV. COMMITTEE." Sounds like blackmail and a threat Craig. Get over yourself!

City Councilor Craig Minor said he would not support reappointing Lori DeFillippi, Pat Nelligan or Tom Ragaini until Ward recreated the Park Revitalization Committee that spearheaded the multi-million project to overhaul key city parks during the past two administrations.

Minor had the backing of two Democratic colleagues, Cliff Block and Kevin McCauley, both times the council voted.

Lori is a veteran, so lay off and keep your comments to yourself. What have you people done with your life? You should be greatful that a hero like Lori lives in our town and selflessly volunteers her time. She fought in the military to keep America free and now she is helping improve our lives in Bristol.

Anonymous said...

Just because she served in the military doesn't give her the right to have her critics silenced. Shame on you for proposing such an idea.

Anonymous said...

I heard that Lori can walk on water.

All this veterans as hero nonsense is making me sick. So many people in this town buy into it that they keep electing unqualified people to run the government based on no other criteria except being veterans, and we're not talking West Pointers here, we're talking about low rank grunts and paper pushers.

You know, Lt. Calley and the Abu Ghraib guards were veterans too.

veteran veteran veteran veteran veteran veteran veteran. Its all you hear about from her and others. I give more respect to the hundreds of veterans in town who served righteously and don't feel the need to talk about it in every breath or relive their glory days around the beer tap at the Legion.

December 13, 2007 7:48 PM:
My sentiments exactly. She's too old to have been in any combat anyway (the Army didn't allow it). And like you said, what does that matter to city and/or state business?

Regardless, with these three stooges as the "park board" Swicklas has almost no over sight. The whole board, the whole concept is virtually worthless. Can you imagine them erecting (sorry, bad word) a statue of Ragaini in Rockwell Park someday?

Anonymous said...

Never once did her veteran status come up on her email to the council people and you all bring it up! The reason you hear so much about Veterans in this town or the fact that she is one is the FACT THAT ALL OF YOU ARE SO IGNORANT (JEALOUS TOO) YOU KEEP BRINGING IT UP. Enough already. I think the huge problem here is she is a woman, serving her city, and you boys just can't deal with it.
Your ignorance does show by stating people in the military, don't face hostile areas that are not deemed "combat zones" by congress.
Why not give up your hatered for this woman and move on. I think she is doing wonderful things in this city for all ages. Try doing something positive like she is instead of taking your lack of a life out on her.

Are you really this stupid!!!
"glory days" veterans talk about what they went through because it helps them deal with the horrifc images that have affected their lives.
You are all a bunch of hipocrates & cowards because you can't even
put your names to your venomous comments!

Anonymous said...

maybe we all should do what Art Ward's wife suggested in his Inaugural Speach "talk less and do more"

Anonymous said...

How about Jim Griffin? He's a West Piont Grad. Do you support him Cheryl (Yetke)? How about Mark Anderson, he was awarded a Purple Heart in Nam. In my opinion neither Ward nor De-Flip-out could carry their jock straps.

Anonymous said...

imagine someone coming on this site and advocating on behalf of who would be the best person to carry a jockstrap? Definately intriqing.

I have known Lori for over 10 years.
Yes, she is a veteran, but does not flaunt that for any particular gain.
On the other hand, she has done a great job with the kids and educating relative to our Boulevard and veterans.
I did not alway gagree with her positions, but she took them, up front, and we need more of that.

So she supports Ward: that is her choice, just as it was Minors and McCauleys choice to support Zoppo, and so on.
If you are so fired up about people serving "too long", go after F. Johnson. J. Lodovico, R. Miecznikowski, and others.
And you are probably one of the ones that complained about Wollf being replaced after 24 years.

You elected Ward, he has the right to pick those that will help him accomplish what you indicated you wanted.

"Yes, she is a veteran, but does not flaunt that for any particular gain"

--BS, that's all she is. What is she a veteran of anyway? she She served in the Marines...big deal. I have friend who served in the Marines, it doesn't qualify him for any city board nor does it give him any particular credentials to comment on public policy.

---Did she go to Anapolis? Well that's something different (I know she didn't). Did she graduate from a four year college? That would actually impress me more (as far as brains go).

"On the other hand, she has done a great job with the kids and educating relative to our Boulevard and veterans"

---That's your opinion. If she teaches kids anything about military history, then I'm sure its an improvement over what the schools are doing today anyway, so good for her and the kids. But again, what's her qualifications? ----I know some pretty stupid people who really have little clue about American history who got through 4 years of the military.

"I did not alway agree with her positions, but she took them, up front, and we need more of that"

----Well she's made some pretty assinine comments and has proposed some ridiculous ideas, so I have to disagree with you on that point (again).

PS I've known 100 people named Cheryl.

"You elected Ward, he has the right to pick those that will help him accomplish what you indicated you wanted."

Sounds good, except Ward never told the voters what he wants to accomplish as mayor. He offered nothing but platitudes and vague generalities. The only thing we can count on him doing is try to appoint his cronies and campaign supporters to city boards. Let's hope the council shows the same cojones they did Tuesday night and stands up to him when he does.
