Two City Council sessions this week

The City Council will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday to talk about potential concessions by unions that may help stave off layoffs.

Mayor Art Ward said most of the meeting will be held in secret, or executive, session, as the law allows.

On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., a joint meeting of the council and Board of Finance will approve a final municipal budget that is expected to freeze property taxes. It may include layoffs, Ward said, if the union talks don’t produce enough savings.

That won’t be known until as late as Thursday morning, city Comptroller Glenn Klocko said. He said he’s waiting to see what happens just like everyone else.

Who will be providing the legal advice?

Ward and another feel good thing! First he gives the unions nice raises, then asks for them back. It's a win win for Ward. If they give them back he's a hero for getting them, and if they don't it's the big bad unions who are not helping the city.

Good try Ward but we have your number. Don't think you will get our endorsment this time around!

I say give Kosta a chance he needs the income in the last 18months he started 3 new famills.

"Ward and another feel good thing!"

Gosh those "feel good things" are just piling up! The reason they make us feel good is because they ARE good. Ward is doing a great job!

Please someone primary Ward. You will get all the union support you need. Look what we did for Ward last time.

I hope that the unions AND the voters see that Ward is just toying with them, using them.

Just what costs has he cut in the past 8 months?

How much does it cost to run the aerators? And the extra street lights? And to sweep the Mall every week?

And to keep unnecessary positions?

Unions not endorse Art?! Don't make me laugh. His cronies (Mike Petosa, Elliot Nelson, Myra Berrios, etc. etc.) control the Labor Council, just like they control the Democratic Town Committee.

The Union will give concessions and I will win the next Powerball!! Give me a break.
How ignorant does he think we really are? We see through you like a window just washed with Windex Ward. You belong in a Ward if you ask me!

When will he bring Krawieckis name before the council?

Steve Collins said...

Mayor Ward said he plans to ask the City Council to endorse Krawiecki for the job at the June 9 council meeting.

8:54 - so cute, sorry but you answered your own question - very, very, very ignorant and that evaluation has nothing to do with your posting - that's everyday.

So now we are operating with just two attorneys?

Why did their budget go up so much?

It's about time the GOP wake up and make these people have their feet to the fire. Ward is all over the place...Flip Flop. Althought there is a solution that no one wants to hear that layoffs might become a reality. The Unions have been really cooperative so I think they can work together but if I were the union rep I wouldn't sit down with Art.. I would sit down with Ken Cockayne. He deserves the credit for this not ART WARD!!! The Unions won't "BACK WARD" because we arent moving "FOR WARD".

Oh boy more attys .

"I would sit down with Ken Cockayne"

Bet you would cuz you're both on the same page...dazed, confused and utterly clueless! ;0)

There has been a lot of discussion around the budget process and the need to cut costs. Reducing the number of city employees has been kicked around and it always seems to end up as more of a political discussion. But I have to believe there is room to make these kinds of cust and not affect services.

Yesterday, my street received the new "blue barrel" for the single stream recycling. It took seven city employees to deliver these barrels. There were two trucks, the larger truck contained the barrels. There were two men inside the truck and one at the rear of the truck who was literally pushing the barrels off the back of the truck.

There was a pick up truck folowing with two men also inside that truck. There was one man in the street taking the dropped barrel and placing it closer to the homeowners driveway. There was a man seated at the rear of the truck handing out an instruction sheet to the man on the street who placed the instruction sheet in the barrel.

This is an actual example of what seems to be a very inefficent and expensive use of city employees. How can seven employees be needed to do this? There is definitely room to make cuts here.

The budget meeting sure allows a loyt of time for the public to find out what is in the budget.

Is this the Obama idea of transparency?

There have been many public meetings and hearings on the budget. This is merely the final approval of it.

I WOULD SIT DOWN WITH KEN AS WELL AND LET ME ASSURE YOU I AM NOT DAZED, CONFUSED OR UTTERLY CONFUSED. I THINK LOGICALLY AND TO BE HONEST MOST OF THE CITY COUNCIL THINK BACKWARDS NOT IN THE FUTURE. ALSO ART WARD IS SITTING THERE DOING NOTHING NOW JUST LIKE WHEN HE WAS A DEPUTY MAYAR HE DID NOTHING. HE DOES MORE FOR THE AMERICAN LEGION THAN HE DOES FOR THE TOWN. IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

...so, you're not "dazed, confused or utterly confused"??? Uh, I beg to differ...LMAO!!!

Steve, while there have been workshops on the budget, virtually no information has been or was provided to the public.
Those that were there will attest to that.
Also, how can anyone comment intelligently when as of today, and even tomorrow, they won't know the details?

Openness, give me a break!

The real question is DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN?
