Welch calls for pro-business agenda in Hartford

Press release issued a few minutes ago by state Senate hopeful Jason Welch, who's running as a Republican in the 31st District:

Welch for State Senate Attends CBIA Connecticut Business Day
and Signs Open Letter to Legislators
BRISTOL, CT – Welch for State Senate announced today that Jason Welch attended the Connecticut Business and Industry Association’s Connecticut Business Day in Hartford.  There he signed CBIA’s Open Letter to state legislators calling on theto make the economic climate more competitive and to take actions to balance the budget without harmful tax increases.
CBIA’s call for a more competitive economy are consistent with the cornerstones of Welch’s campaign: (1) eliminating mandates on businesses and towns that stunt growth and discourage employment; (2) reducing government fees and taxes that are barriers to entry and employment; (3) reducing Connecticut’s unfunded liabilities through fiscally responsible measures.
Jason said that “It was great to spend a morning with so many people committed to changing the anti-business and anti-jobs culture of Hartford. There is still time to turn this ship around and make Connecticut a great place to live and work again.
Jason Welch seeks to be the Republican nominee to the State Senate race for the 31st District, which includes Bristol, Plainville, Plymouth and parts of Harwinton.

It would be nice if these Anti people republicans would change their rhetoric to realize that people work at those businesses and need too make a living. But I guess they think businesses can survive without people.#1 has always been their bottom line.

When are you going to realize that people have no jobs if there is no business. So people and business need each other, that is unless everybody worked for the state and that was tried and failed, it is called communism.

I'd like to see dunder-head Dumb-o-crats like you wandering around with your tin cup with nothing to do and no one with anything to put in your cup. That is what it'd be like with out the businesses you hate so much.

anoncommiewestconnstooge:

You are such an over-the-top left-wing nut case it's not funny. Being pro-business is NOT anti-middle class. Most small to mid size business owners are middle class. Without business there would be no middle class. The leftists have chased business out of the state and pretty soon all you'll have is the "government class". See how long that lasts with no businesses to create wealth.

Jason:

How do you propose to get this to happen?

I own a business, and yes, I look at the bottom line. My employees get regular raises, get treated to lunch every week, get regularly increased paid vacation time, and are considered family, which means holiday parties, birthday treats, clothing allowance, gifts for graduations, weddings, babies, etc. Meanwhile, I'm looking at that bottom line. And that bottom line tells me that my employees and I would do much better in another state, like many other businesses who have already left. Please listen to Welch and consider giving him your vote. I don't want to move my family and I don't want my employees to be out of work. Tommy has done businesses like mine no favors.

If you want my vote then you must offer specific mandates and what you propose to do about it. Vague rhetoric that you are pro bussiness and pro jobs is nothing new from the Republicans. Give specific bills that you would propose and what their effect will be. Before you start attacking the union workers for making too much money take a look at all the people in bussiness who make million dollar salaries while sending jobs to slave nations like China. Understand that workers here need to make good salaries so that we can afford a decent life without working like dogs to pay for basic needs. If you want cuts start at the top and work your way down. The state can function without commisioners but you don't see them out on the roads at 2 in the morning clearing snow so that we can all get to where we need to go.

What had Colepetro done for Bristol? With his many years in office he must have a list of accomplishments. Anything?

Your's is a statement of an ignorant Democrat hack with the economic sense of a child.

Jean:

First of all the word business has one "s" not two.

Second of all China is hardly a "slave nation". They are a belligerent nation towards the U.S.A., but they also have a rising middle class and a much better standard of living than in the past (thanks to economic growth due to capitalism).

Third, what is your plan to keep businesses here? Would you like to ban foreign imports and forbid companies from outsourcing and expanding operations overseas? That is called communism by the way and it didn't work out too well for the USSR.

Fouth, what you are is clearly jealous of the "executives" that you chastise so much. And you maybe right. Unfortunately impeding capitalism leads to economic stagnation and a lower standard of living for most.

Fifth, people like you and Colapietro have promoted laws and regulations that have priced the labor market beyond the point where it makes sense to be in Connecticut. Doing things like constantly raising the minimum wage is short-sighted and leads to the downfall of our society.

Just wondering, how is "pro-business" the same as "anti middle class?" I would think that pro-business policies would help to lead to more jobs, which would in turn help out the middle class.

February 27, 2010 10:06 AM et al:

"Tom" (Colapietro) and the union-dominated, union-agenda-pushing Democrat majority have done nothing but drive business and jobs out of Connecticut. They have no plan but to drive their job-killing agendas further into the heart of our economy.

February 27, 2010 10:49 AM aka 10:06:

What's wrong with being pro-insurance company anyway? Do you not understand that the insurance industry is an enormous job creator in Connecticut? You're one of these narrow-minded Democrat leftists who would "chop your noses off to spite your face" just to forward your twisted idiotic socialist ideology filled with jealousy, hate, anti-Americanism and evil.

More bitter lies from the Mocabee era cowards. Plus I sense a little jealousy in there.
