City may lose out on millions in state grants

For the second consecutive year, Gov. Jodi Rell is aiming to wipe away $5.8 million worth of earmarks designated for projects in Bristol.
Among them is a $4 million grant that would cover more than half the tab for Rockwell Park’s ongoing renovations.
Also on the chopping block is a $1.5 million allocation for the American Clock and Watch Museum, $200,000 for Indian Rock Nature Preserve and $83,170 to help the Bristol Community Organization expand Head Start.
All of the grants earmarked for Bristol were promised years ago and have languished since.

the mayormust make cuts. went will he start.

so who is paying for Rockwell Park costs?

Steve Collins said...

Who is paying? The taxpayers of Bristol, of course.

Is Bristol the only city to lose out or is this an across the board cut within the State to reduce expenses?

Steve Collins said...

It's across the board. Nearly every town is slated to lose grants.

Thanks. The fact is that the cuts are across the State because CT is broke. The State (and local) government can't keep spending money we don't have and lost grants are part of the fallout.

Art has made no fiends in Hartford.

He has pissed off his own party, the Gov, and others.

His only ally is Hamzy, because Ward has sucked up to local Republicans.

Yes Steve nearly every town is loosing grants.

But no one is paying attention to the bias the Governor has shown for years to smaller, wealthier, towns in places that don't necessarily need the grants but will give her the votes.

That's the real story.

friends don't make for good budgets in these times, actions are what is needed.

The way to solve bristols problems is to look away kiss the unions ass and watch more folks leave. Bristol has no leadership.

And with Ward, we have neither.

It's amusing to see the Democrats in opposition to Ward and possibly the local Republicans too (although they're back on Facebook in their ignorant and hypocritical stupor, using poor grammar while patting themselves on the back for nothing) bashing Ward. The problem with the city projects (like Rockwell, albeit it's a better use of money than the new mega-school on the outskirts of the city) is that tax and spend liberal Democrats with the help of elected and appointed Republicans went way over-board with city spending.

Rell is a real disappoitment, just like Tim Stewart.

Positively Right said...

If Rell is actually neglecting Bristol because of its partisan loyalty to the Democrat Party, this isn't just the fault of Art Ward, Colapietro or the Bristol Democrats. It's the fault of the voters.

The city of Southington just landed a multi -million dollar state of the arts sports complex that will be built on Spring St. That idea was thrown about here in Bristol but ultimately rejected. What made me laugh is I caught a tidbit from a town worker that said (according to the hierarchy) Bristol had the chance, the blew it and this thing will be built, up and running and drawing revenue for the town, BIG REVENUE before Renaissance even breaks ground.

She should cut more.

We need serious cuts in the school board its way out of hand. We need to put in salary caps. Then finish off with dept heads which we have way to many doing nothing. Like in public works eng and building dept.We need this to survive. But our elected officals have to many friends involved or the union votes to do anything.

Yes Steve ...the grant cuts are accross the board as you say...but the reason is because of the SPENDING crerated by the controlling party in Hartford.

We must change direction as these guys don't get it...just as Dodd didn't get it.

Colipietro the liquer loser, Nicastro the vote for any tax liberal and the go along with what is wrong Wright need to go! Simply put! Along with Donovan and Williams and the rest of their spending taxing flock.

Wake UP !!!!!

The state can't waste all that cashola on the unions AND fund wasteful spending in the cities too .

The unions are the ones that has helped the taxpayer in this town out do some reseach 7 million $ ayear the city should listen to the unions that`s the bottomline.

Anonymous said...

The union will destroy bristol and many political careeers . THIS CONTINUESBRISTOLS FUTURE IS SLIM..

Somebody at city hall last spring did something that caused Governor Rell to do a 180 degree on Bristol. Can anyone shed light on what that was?

Anonymous said...

9:41 dont no what your smoking but the local union only does for them selves and if bristol doesnt take action soon its future is dim.

Tax payers listening to unions is like Jews in Nazi era Germany listening to the SS.

I am moving to southington, Bristol has no leadership, the so called leaders can't even see how to generate money for this town and they keep - lining their pockets. I am out of here!!!

9:13 Your doing the right thing my house is up for sale too. Cant leave soon enough. This political climate in bristol is for the unions and welfare.

It was more than one thing, Art was involved, but one of Rells friends was shat upon by the leadership in Bristol.

Anonymous said...

So why should we believe the state will pay for the majority of the 2 new schools. Stop the new school disaster now so the taxpayers of Bristol are not left holding the bag if the state decides to back out of the funding of the project.

Anonymous said...

Southington wont even listen to bristol idiots. Bristol is a laughting joke to the rest of the state.

Anonymous said...

Positively wrong is wrong as usual. Mr know -it-all. Actually only to his little group of friends. Babies !

Anonymous said...

Actually why don't you childish republicans make up your mind who is really at fault with our problems. Try stop hiding and do something except being useless whiners! Take a look at you BIG money execs.

Ward cannot continue to pee on people's shoes and expect them to like it.
Bristol suffers for it, and will continue to do so, until he changes or is gone.

We thought that Nicastro had an ego?
