Fitzgerald vows to push tourism in Bristol

A new press release from state House contender Hill Fitzgerald:

Republican 77th Assembly District candidate Jill Fitzgerald today pledged to work with Governor Rell, members of the city’s legislative delegation, local elected officials, and the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism to promote Bristol’s cultural and recreational attractions to encourage more tourists to visit the city.
“Bristol has a wide variety of cultural and recreational attractions that could make the city significantly more attractive to visitors if they were promoted more aggressively – both elsewhere in Connecticut and throughout the northeastern part of the United States,” Fitzgerald said. “Bristol has unique cultural assets such as the Carousel, Clock and military museums, recreational assets such as historic Lake Compounce, the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Center; the Barnes and Indian Rock Nature Centers and the Hoppers, which has an extensive system of hiking trails that rival any in the state.”
“Bristol also is home to ESPN, the largest all-sports network in the country, and popular annual events like the Mum Festival,” Fitzgerald said. “The problem is that most of the attractions that make our city such a great place to live, work and raise a family aren’t well known outside of our corner of the state. I believe that a more aggressive effort on the part of the Commission’s Tourism Division to promote Bristol could significantly increase the number of visitors to our city.”
“If Bristol becomes a more widely recognized tourist destination, it would mean more people patronizing local restaurants and other businesses, stimulating the local economy, and creating more jobs,” Fitzgerald said. “One of my most important goals if I am elected as the 77th District’s new state representative will be to convince the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism that Bristol has the potential to be a significant visitor destination that will bring more dollars into our state – if the agency’s tourism division makes more of an effort to promote our city and the attractions we have to offer.”
The Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism’s Tourism Division works to make tourism a leading economic contributor and a source of pride for Connecticut. The division partners with the Connecticut business community and five regional tourism districts to position the state, encourage strategic investment and ensure that Connecticut is a prime destination for leisure and business travelers. The division offers a broad range of services, includi ng mar keting, research, hospitality services, direct sales and business marketing assistance. The division operates Connecticut's six Welcome Centers.

Yes some and visit the empty industrial areas and the empty mall site. But please note the tacky sign for Bracket park and all the welfare-class people hanging out there aimlessly, and using the playground equipment as a table when they fill there crack pipes.

Real nice 9:27.

Must be taking lessons from Cockayne. This is the third or fourth press release! Tourism to see what? The boulevard ?

Go Jill!!! Bristol is a great town with a ton of history that is really interesting. Why is it that most people on here love to talk about the negative, but never the postive of where we CHOOSE to live?

What a splendid idea! Maybe this creative candidate can make arrangements for a tour bus to view all the wonderfully executed graffiti throughout Bristol. She can be the honorary tour guide and point out the beautifully decorated mailboxes and street signs, especially those with swastikas on them. Such a welcoming sight for all to see!

Shame on Bristol! Shame on the Police Farce! Shame on Mayor Back-Wards! Shame on the citizens for tolerating this!

Well I guess the whining Republicans are back from the convention. Getting closer to finding out the big mouths on here. It's been sooooo quiet!

How many has Jill been to?

Have you ever seen her at any site, or any city activity?

Don't do as I do, do as I say.

We need people to lead by example.

What a splendid idea! Maybe this creative candidate can make arrangements for a tour bus to view Memorial Boulevard, Muzzy Field, the Carousel Museum, Clock Museum, or Lake Compounce. They could stop at Blondies and sit outside on our beautiful new streetscape and enjoy a hotdog, or maybe they could take a ride by our beautiful new library, ESPN, the new industrial park, or Bristol Hospital with our new outpatient surgery building and helipad. There's lots of good things going on in Bristol. Shame on you 12:20 for failing to see any of it.

Great suggestions 1:51 PM!

Don't forget to point out, on this tour of Bristol, the spot where the vandalized statue once graced the oh-so-wonderful Memorial Boulevard (conservative repair estimate: $10,000+); and remember to swing by the Rockwell Park in-ground swimming pool next door to Muzzy Field where vandals/gang members have repeatedly left their marks!

Reality check time: Bristol is a City going down the tubes slowly but surely. The Police don't give a crap about the safety or concerns of its citizens, and the sitting administration is unqualified or unwilling (probably a little of both) to do anything about it. No matter how you want to spin it, there's more bad than good happening in Bristol. Why else would so many houses be for sale throughout Bristol?

Now is the time to wake up, cut your losses, and get out before all the redneck, psuedo-patriotic, chicken sh_t, disabled alcoholic veteran nazi's take complete control of the city!

On second thought, it may already be too late.

"Tourism to see what? The boulevard ?
September 2, 2008 10:21 AM"

-Aren't the Boulevard fanatics the ones who helped Ward the most to get elected?

-Please don't make thr Boulevard a tourist area. It's a nicer place for locals to spend time with their families etc. But it's a road. Let's not get the entire region hating Bristol because we keep buggering up a main artery.

-Jill stay on this message. We need to keep Bristol and Connecticut competitive regarding jobs and income creating companies. Wright is a neo-socialist who belongs where he is, in hospital admitting, not state government. Please don't reward this loser with a nice part time salary and bennies for his efforts to try to make Connecticut totally in control of big labor.

And September 2, 2008 1:02 PM, anytime you're ready, I am.

One person making $48,000 can qualify for "home heating assitance"? I'd be ashamed of myself if I was Wright for endorsing this. This just shows how out of touch the limosine liberals controlling the Legislature are. Let's not encouarge them by sending their lackey, Christopher Wright, to Hartford so they can write more bad legislation.

3:30 No your not !!!!

Anonymous said...

To 3:43 I'd be ashamed of being a republican. Spend lots of money for pork ......not people in need.

Anonymous said...

"Tourism to see what? The boulevard ?"

Sorry 3:40, this isn't about Ward or the Boulevard "fanatics." Like it or not, the Boulevard is a park. There's a lot of history there and it's a beautiful spot for tourists and residents to enjoy, so let's not count it as an attraction simply because you don't like the mayor or his "fanatics"...

Anonymous said...

OK then 3:45 as long it's a Republican spending money on what they want. Not on people!

Anonymous said...

And you 2:42 continue to whine and do nothing !!

Anonymous said...

September 2, 2008 4:35 PM:

Actually I like the mayor and I probably like most of the Boulevard fanatics. I just don't like what they are doing to the Boulevard.

Don't make it personal.

Anonymous said...

"Um, I'm guessing there's a much darker side to 2:42's psychotic little anti-Bristol tirade. Sounds like someone needs to up their meds maybe?"

-------------

Your guess is dead wrong 4:27PM, because I'm as natural as the day I was born. And that's what makes me different from most of the pill-popping, alcoholics, drug-dependent animals-masquerading-as-people in Bristol.

In fact, I abhor pharmaceutical drugs and anyone associated with researching, producing, and marketing them. Man-made medications are dangerous, much like your ignorant assumptions.

And there's absolutely nothing psychotic about my point of view. My thoughts and emotions are not impaired. You may be confused by my honest exposure of the true reality of Bristol, and your first reaction is to attack me and accuse me of being abnormal. It's a base reaction that I half expected even before I chose to publish my comments.

I will grant you, however, that one could conclude there is a "darkness" to the 2:42PM post, but it's understandable in consideration of all that I've witnessed as an "aware" resident of Bristol.

Furthermore, this "Bristol Blog" is just one more example of how backward most Bristolites truly are. Some of the posts I've been reading are unequivocally absurd, very poorly composed, thoughtless, ridiculous, and a true representation of what Bristol has to offer. Not much!

I don't think so ! And I didn't expect you to agree with me.Your the same old phony !

"I don't think so ! And I didn't expect you to agree with me.Your [sic} the same old phony !"

...and that's the problem 6:26PM, you don't think, so...

...and why would I be expected to agree with you? The assumptions or "guesses" you made were ludicrous, and I'm not one who agrees with fools. I do my own thinking, thank you very much...

...and being phony is an American tradition, it seems, so I guess I'm in good company and should be feeling prouder than ever now that I've been labeled as such. LOL...

You know, it's never too late to become educated. Have you ever thought of finishing your high school degree? Perhaps you can enroll in an online program. Learning has a way of improving one's ability to communicate with someone who doesn't necessarily share your point of view. It opens the mind to a whole new world of understanding.

Imagine that...

Hey 1:51, I'd hardly call the new Library "beautiful". I think it's an eyesore. Especially with those oversized, unnecessary A/C units on the top. Looks disgusting. And if Blondie's got a bus full of people, do you seriously think they could handle that. I mean, where would they even sit?? ESPN?? What are they going to drive by in 5 seconds and see the sign....or maybe do a U-turn at the road that was given to them to block the flow of traffic? Bristol Hospital? You're kidding, right? I wouldn't bring my cat there. And the helipad? That hasn't been used in AGES. Get a clue. This town sucks and is not for tourists....except MAYBE little league kids, and even then, we barely have a nice hotel for them to stay in and no highway access. Oh ya, I forgot about the new Rt 72 expansion with 13 traffic lights....hardly an expressway by any means. This town is going NOWHERE fast. So enjoy the ride!!

"In fact, I abhor pharmaceutical drugs and anyone associated with researching, producing, and marketing them. Man-made medications are dangerous, much like your ignorant assumptions."

Does that rant come with a copy of dianetics?

Anonymous said...

I like Bristol. I plan on living here a long time. I just hope they don't keep putting cheesy signs on the Boulevard and I hope they stop buggering it up for a minute amount of foot traffic...especially when connecting roads through populated neighborhoods have virtually turned into highway connectors putting people who live there and their children in DANGER!

Anonymous said...

sounds as though that perverted "sicko" who has always stirred up Bristolct.com has escaped from their padded cell and has found a new site to delve into the "dark side."
hopefully their shopping cart ride through never, never land will allow enough time for ToTo to catch up to them and take a huge rabid-ridden bite out of them.
Ding Dong, Ding Dong, Ding Dong.

Who's "9;11"? Is that why you're a Democrat, because you can't decipher numbers?

Don't forget Jill see if you can call ghost hunters to see if this blog is haunted. It would make a great place for tourists to see what our republican is really like.

Go Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac .....rape the taxpayers some more. Somebody didn't run their businesses right so the taxpayers have to bail them out. How many bonuses and how many lucrative cars did they have on taxpayers money and after getting raped we have to dig deeper and bail them out. Typical republican way of life. They can't earn their own money they use the wage earner and then cry when they fail. Who's next ? Lehman?
