Hartford Courant endorses Ken Johnson

I'm not sure why editorial endorsements matter to campaigns, as they are normally written by badly out of touch editors, but they do. Here's what the Courant had to say this morning:

This is GREAT! A Voice of Reason and Intelligence!

FINALLY! The voice of intelligence speaks! It's very interesting that one has to read about it in a regional news paper. Hopefully, the Press will follow suit with a similar endorsement.

I'm a Democrat and I'm voting for Johnson!

The Hartford Courant endorsed Zoppo & Couture too remember?? Voice of reason and intelligence?
I am a republican and I am voting for Art Ward.
Johnson has NO EXPERIENCE IN CITY GOVT.

Steve, would it be correct to assume then from your blog, that the Bristol press will NOT be making any Endorsements for the Candidates during the election?

Steve Collins said...

I do not know if the Press will endorse anyone. That's not my bailiwick.
However, I don't remember the Press making any local endorsements in recent years. The last Press endorsement I distinctly remember was an editorial backing Bush's election as president.

Yeah and look where that got us! Courant is nothing but a bunch of liberals. Even if they endorsed Ward I put any weight in endorsements from newpapers.

But I am sure if Art Ward received the endorsement it would be used to his advantage. Its all political spin.

Clueless, badly out of touch editors from a paper that barely covers Bristol, now that's worth paying attention to! Ken Johnson does look better from a distance, which is where the Courant is. Neither one looks very good when you get up close, but those are the breaks. Art at least has a little bit of a hint about what's going on in city government.
The equally clueless and out-of-touch editors at the Press shouldn't tread where they don't know squat either, or they'll embarass themselves just like the haughty Courant types do. Leave the decision to the voters, since they're the ones who have to live with it, not Courant editors, and leave the stellar political reporting to Collins, who does a great job putting the facts out there so intelligent people can make a choice, such as it is. Thanks, Steve.

Yes, Lets all vote in the EXPERIENCE'D Ward! He's done such a great job over the past 14 yrs!!

ARE YOU CRAZY! Take a look around and ask your self what Bristol will be like with another term with the current people in power! Not a pleasant thought! You must live in a shell or perhaps a city worker who is waiting for Arty to give you the world!!

I'm voting for the New People with New Ideas! Not the Good Old Boy's!

Now The Hartford Courant is "a voice of reason and intelligence." What a joke! If I hadn't already canceled my subscription to that rag years ago, I would do it now.

Was Art the only one on the council along with 1 mayor for 14 years? Oh, so its not all Wards fault. And where was Ken Johnson all these years with his opinions?
Ken is a phoney - smart voters see right through him, Orange suits should remain in our prisons not on politicains, unless they are going to prison.

This means nothing. I never has meant anything.

This endorsement sounds like something that Zoppo scripted.

Anonymous said...

Hey Stortz..the Hartford Courant never endorsed you.

Ken Johnson is just what Bristol needs right now before our last chance is used up. Ken's ideas are fresh and we don't need the old good ole boys to keep sitting and doing nothing

Don't insult the good ole boys by saying they do nothing. They do a lot of things. They pal around, slap each other on the back, cash in on their government related jobs, and hang out over drinks.

For 14 years Art Ward might have PUT BRISTOL FIRST but we have not gone FOR-WARD.

Anonymous said...

If Art Ward and his team are true to form, they will try to attack Mr. Johnson in the next two weeks. Please Art, do not insult us any longer with that style of politics. It only shows how little you know and how desperate you are.

I believe that the Courant endorsed John Rowland also - go figure.

Johnson is doing a good job of bashing himself each time he opens his mouth. I doubt Ward will attack Johnson, they way Johnson has been attacking Ward.

Anonymous said...

I don't think that there will any Johnson-bashing (though that does seem to be Ken's latest tactic). At this point, I think even Ward's camp is feeling sorry for poor confused Mr. Johnson.

The Courant endorsed Rowland and Bush and Stortz, and they all won.

Poor Democrats...didn;t get the Courant endorsement and they don;t know how to handle it.

Anonymous said...

Yes, poor democrats, sobbing and weeping over the Courant's endorsement of Johnson...like that means anything. Even with their ever so meaningless endorsement, poor Mr. Johnson's ship seems to be sinking.
