Welch takes aim at Colapietro

One of State Senate hopeful Jason Welch's billboards in Bristol.

Republican State Senate hopeful Jason Welch released some campaign posters over the weekend detailing his differences with the incumbent Democrat, longtime state Sen. Tom Colapietro of Bristol. You can see PDFs of them by clicking here and here.
It looks like the race is heating up.

I hope the voters in Bristol wake up! These guys that have been in there for years are going to bankrupt the State or raise your taxes so much you will need to work 3 jobs just to put food on the table.

There's no way Dudley Doo-right Welch, Trust Fund TJ and their union thug buddy will beat Tommie-Toupe' and his army of union-thugs.

I guess Welch and Betts has to buy something big to let people knnow who they are. Didn't Betts run for Mayor cause the Barns$$$$ wanted him to? And Welch can be a puppet with him.

an advocate for the principles of a free market, capitalist economy.

Looks like the GOP has a solid candidate in Mr. Welch. I wonder if the "He's one of us!" campaign is going to be enough this time to get people to look the other way when it comes to Colapietro's record. I'm sure with the union stooges it will be enough. I can just see Testes, Lydumb and the Boy Toy driving him around on election day like the always do. Is he one of us who drives himself around, or one of us who has a driver? Why does he always have a driver? Is he one of really one of us? I would love to see his resume and learn more about him? Where did he grow up? Where did he go to school? What's his level of education, etc....

Anonymous said...

Wherever the Democrats get scared all they know how to do it criticize the Republicans.

Why is it that the Republicans always have a actual fact to back up their criticism of a Democrat?

Anonymous said...

Betts lost by a big margin, but he did do much better than Mocabee!

Anonymous said...

How about a rebuttal to what Welch is saying?

Nahh, we will just say "He's not one of us!"

I know plenty of people who are one of us that I would not leading us. That list include Colapietro. He had his chance and has been a part of the leadership that has run this state to the brink of bankrupcy. Time for a change. Tommie has got to go!

Be polite, please. Be aware, too, that your words will mean more if you identify yourself. If you see a comment that should be killed, please tell me about it, including where I can find it in order to remove it. Do yourself a favor and remember that somebody can sue you, subpoena records from Google and find out who you are. So don't say something you wouldn't want to defend in court. Hey the children must play .

Anonymous said...

More of the same old rhetoric from the Union thug democrats. Republicans care only about the rich. If you have money you're evil! Blah, blah, blah.

How about Tommie defends his record. Nope. It aint gonna happen.

How about a debate. Nope. That aint gonna happen either.

Tommie has been a part of the leadership for one of the most liberal states in the country for over a decade, and what do we have to show for it?

West Conn can say whatever he wants, but Rowland and Rell were merely tiny counterweights to the Democratic legislature. They could barely make a dent and most of the time only delayed the inevitable tax and spend.

Welch will get my vote all the way.

Anonymous said...

Tom has disappointed me greatly in recent years. The stands he takes and the way he votes have done nothing for me. This year I am voting for Jason, and I am grateful to the Republicans for putting up a good man that I can support.

Anonymous said...

Those people that constantly defend the unions and criticize the Republicans must not have any children or grandchildren. They just don't seem to care about the future generations when they bully the governments for their raises and pensions. Why don't these "workers" come out from under the control of these unions and start negotiating their own terms. That's what people in the private sector do. They work on their own for what they have. If they are able to make enough money to put it away for retirement, great; but that is a risk they take. If they are employed by a company, then they don't have anyone bullying the businesses for their benefits and raises. It only comes based upon profits. I don't understand what kind of logic is applied here. The private sector is puttering along; people are unemployed and earnings are 1/2 of what they were and the public sector bullies for what they "deserve". The union leaders strike fear into their members. It's a pretty mixed up world, isn't it?

Anonymous said...

You can tell 10:39 is a Republican. "What have you done for ME lately" If I don't get something for ME personally I'm gonna cry and STILL vote against Tom.

Anonymous said...

Remember Dudley do right is listening to the Republicans. He has all the answers whether you believe them or not. Seems like the Republicans have a hard time telling the truth.

Anonymous said...

8:39 PM, You couldn't be more wrong. I'm a democrat and I'm voting for Welch. I agree with the comments being made here by the intelligent folks (people who can express themselves without all the name calling and repressed anger). It is time for a change!

GO WELCH!!!

I'll be voting GOP said...

Anonwestconn:

Almost everything you wrote is utterly useless except perhaps the "tax break for used (capital) equipment".

The new stuff is all made in Asia anyway, so how about this?

Lower the cost of doing business in CT by reducing government spending. Enact Right to Work laws like in Texas and Missippi where all the manufaturing jobs have been going for the last 20 years.

There are major airports in Mississippi that cater almost exclusively to the industrial parks. It's time for our government to get it's head out of it's proverbial ___.

Anonymous said...

The Republicans finally have a decent candidate. Congrantulations, you will finally get my vote. I will not support Colapietro because he is not one of us. My people, regardless of party affiliation, want the death penalty for the murderous felons who took the lives of Dr. Petit's wife and children. Tom is out of touch.

Anonymous said...

AnonymousWestconnStudent - you are very misguided. You are right the R's have held the Governors spot for some time, but the Dems have controlled the Capital for many, many, many years. So to stay its the Governors problem is just an easy way to place blame. When the Dems slash spending and actually start negotiating with the Unions - Dems are the reason we are in this mess. Because they are the only ones to get us out of this mess since they control the capital.

Anonymous said...

8:41 will get your vote anyway . Wasn't it Rowland that said he would do away with the income tax just to get your vote? And your still defending an ex convict? Typical republican trash .

Anonymous said...

Hear hear West conn but you are talking to deaf ears. They don't care about anybody but themselves.

Anonymous said...

1:38 PM: We may have deaf ears (good thing we're reading and writing), but you and Westconn are dumb and blind (emphasis on the dumb).

Doing the same thing over and over (Colapietro) and expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity.

Time for a change - Jason Welch!

Matt said...

The Republicans have only sat in the Gov's seat since 1995. Prior to that was Weicker, O'Neill and Grasso. None were Republicans. That's only 15 years. For those 15 years the Dems controlled the legislature. Thus controlled spending.

Gov. Rell did show a lack of leadership not vetoing the most recent spending bill. So what if the Dems have a veto proof majority. Let them own that crap pile that call a spending bill.

In ten years state spending has balloned by over ten billion dollars. If you are satisfied with that kind of reckless spending, vote for the same people that crate the spending bills - the Dems. If you think a near doubling of state spending in ten years is acceptable, vote for the dems. It's that simple.

There is waste EVERYWHERE. Personal drivers for elected officials, a car for each state cop to usher his/her family in. Millions of dollars for campaign signs, billboards, and paid staff(staff that was mostly volunteer prior to the state funding of elections)

To everyone complaining remember to vote. If you don't vote don't complain.

3:50 PM: Yes, I agree! Please go Colapietro. Make way for someone who will get rattled by the mess we're in. All those folks who were shouting about change - here it is - Jason Welch!

Anonymous said...

AnonymousWestconnStudent - go back to school. CT is the second smallest state - with the State of Ct as the biggest employer! Why? Why has the government doubled since the 90's? Let me see - oh wait! Democrats have had control of the capital that is why! our debt is huge because we pay out dearly in employee salaries and benefits. Stop this talk of Republican bashing against the Unions - because there is plenty of Democrats that say the size of our State government is way to big and out of control.

Matt said...

To WestConn Student - I volunteered on two state senator campaigns and in neither case was the campaign chair paid. We ran on shoe string budgets because quite frankly we could not win. The only thing the CEP law did was fund candidates that can't win.

It will be very interesting when 10 years of CEP has past if there is a change in the number of seats that change hands. The true measure of success for CEP. If we still have a 90+% re-election rate than the money is wasted. We should focus on fair re-districting to eliminate safe seats for either party.

The Petit case is a good example of why people might be in favor of the death penalty. There is nothing "immoral" about bringing that up. Tom is against the death penalty. He can't run away from his record.

I am an unaffiliated voter and I have been watching this blog for a few weeks now. I do like to keep up with happenings around Bristol. My evaluation of this blog is as is.
The reporter seems to be trying to give us the news. I commend him for that. However as I have been trying to hear what people think about issues I can't .
Mainly because of every time I get interested in something it turns into a political name calling blog.
No more purpose for me to continue to watch or god forbid participate. I have better places to get the local news. I do not want to get involved in this kind of media therefore I will not watch this fiasco any longer. Have fun kids. Thank god I am unaffiliated. We normal people like the news but we don't like watching these antics. The only thing I really don't understand is why the reporter allows this to happen. Does he like this stuff? The person who told me about this was absolutely right. “No news here”

To student: minimum wage, at Walmart or anywhere else, is not meant to make anyone rich. It's starting pay for an unskilled, part-time laborer, like a high school student at his/her first after-school job. And since the student probably can't make change because of our not-so-great education system, that minimum wage should be lower.

Anonymous said...

AnonymousWestconnStudent - do you really go to college? Do you know how yo use a computer? Last report from 2004 there was over 53 THOUSAND State employees!

Since when do high school students need to support themselves? Minimum wage is for them.

Call me corporate loving, I won't be offended. I work for a corporation, I get paid, and I get a nice roof over my head, three more than adequate meals a day, a reliable car, and a vacation every year. No corporations means no jobs, no roofs, no meals, no cars, no vacations. We can't all work for the government.

Anonymous said...

The state of CT should not be the biggest employer! What is this a mini Cuba?

Anonymous said...

10:48 Thanks to sucking the little peoples money from them. That's the only way you can have any money. Must be nice to have all that stuff. Most regular families can't afford that because people like you want them to make minimum wage while you get rich off of what little they have,

And 10:48 Your corporate worl that you love doesn't do too bad for not working for the government. Did you also get a bonus for laying people off?

You can't fool the people and the truth shall prevail.
