Parking ticket scofflaws face the boot, too

In the wake of a successful crackdown on people who failed to pay their property tax bills, the city is expanding a boot program to include locking the wheels of parking ticket scofflaws.
City councilors unanimously agreed Tuesday to give VioAlert Systems the power to put boots on the vehicles of anyone who has three or more unpaid parking tickets.
To get the boots off, the scofflaws have to pay the tickets and a $175 fee to remove the device from their wheels.
Police Chief John DiVenere said there are $123,000 in unpaid tickets piled up, but officials can only hope to collect about $50,000 of that amount.
He said that going off the worst scofflaws, some of whom owe as much as $300, will quickly send a message to everyone that they better pay off their old parking tickets.
City officials said they’re sure it will mean more revenue for the city at a time when every dollar counts.
In just the last few months, they’ve racked up about $200,000 by booting the vehicles of those who owe back property taxes.

hopefully the city will actively start cracking down on those drivers whose vehicles are registered in another state. this problem seems to be increasing. i see more and more vehicles parked around town with vermont, new hamphire and massachusetts plates on their vehicle. these people are breaking the law. connecticut motor vehicle laws require vehicles to be registered in connecticut within 30 days of establishing residence. these folks with out-of-state plates are not only violating this law, but robbing local cities and towns of property taxes on said vehicles. i recognize there may be transient works near espn's campus, and this would need to be addressed, however, it would be very easy to establish if an out-of-state licensed vehicle belongs to an established bristol resident who feels he is above the law.

come on mr. mayor, lets get this done.

There are guidelines as to how long one has to be here before they have to register here.
The previous mayor started efforts in this area, but apparently the effort has died

Billy, you bring this up EVERY time you possibly can. You've obvious got it out for someone. If you think it's illegal, call the police. Otherwise, GIVE IT A REST ALREADY.

Your right Bill from Bristol . I think that's what the article said it was doing.

I have the answer for all Bristol residents about the boot. If you don't want the boot. MOVE, I did to a place where you aren't taved to death. If taxes weren't so darn high in Ct. and you could find a job to pay them people wouldn't be leaving. ADIOUS CT. Let the fat cats get richer.

Billy: The cops won't enforce this because when one of them did, he got fired for it.
