Larson: Don't burn Muslim holy books

Press release from U.S. Rep. John Larson, an East Hartford Democrat whose 1st District includes Bristol:
LARSON CONDEMNS THREATENED BURNING OF THE KORAN
Washington, DC -- Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement in response to threats from a minister in Florida to burn copies of the Koran, the Islamic holy book, on September 11th.
“The character of this country is built on mutual respect for people of all races, religions and genders. That is why it saddens me to hear my fellow Americans acting in hatred and intolerance towards Muslims and the entire Islamic faith.
“Instead of inciting distrust and magnifying the differences between us, religious leaders should be working to bring together people of all religions to work towards peace and the common good. I was heartened to hear about a church in Tennessee that opened its doors to its Muslim neighbors for their celebration of Ramadan while their Mosque was under construction. It is gestures like that that will make this country a better place and help heal wounds around the world.
“Every member of Congress should condemn any attempt to defame the Islamic faith or incite hostilities between religions. These actions are counter to our American values and have the potential to put our troops abroad in harm’s way and help terrorist groups recruit new members.”

Where are all the "seperation of church and state" liberals from the Courant and all over Connecticut? They were attacking the idea of a high school having it's graduation at the First Cathedral but they're silent on Islamic prayers being recited at a government meeting.

When the imam from the mosque in New York threatened to kill Americans if the quran was burned it would have been nice to see a quran burned in front of his eyes before he was drawn and quartered .

Just an Americans opinion

Actually,

The government meeting you refer to has prayers from other faiths in their meetings. If anything they need to get rid of those too, not introduce the Islamic/Muslim prayers you mentioned.

Thank you, Congressman Larson.

I watched as a Crucifix was placed in a jar of urine, and it was called art.

I don't remember anyone being killed over that.

No Christians wouldn't. Unlike Islam, Christianity is a peaceful religion. What happens when something pisses off a Muslim. Riots in their 3rd world country streets and American flags are burned. When you piss off a Christian they prey and look for forgiveness peacefully.

This cleric in NYC is way out of line threatening the American people with violence if he does not get his way. Why is it ok for him to say that the Muslim community will lash out with violence against America if he is not allowed to build the Mosque, yet we as Americans are condemned when we simply want it moved. This country needs to wake up and get it's collective head out of it's ass before this becomes the 58th state of Islam or better known as the United States of Islam.
