UConn-Hartford Hospital deal is dead

The Hartford Courant's Chris Keating has an email that indicates the proposal for a partnership between the UConn medical school and Hartford Hospital is kaput.
Bristol Hospital officials are no doubt thrilled, having warned that a new hospital in Farmington, paid for by taxpayers, could cripple Bristol's own hospital.

Maybe the current proposal is dead however I am sure this idea/concept will be back. UCONN is critical to the region. The research $ that comes to CT because of UCONN cannot be lost. An appropriate clinical setting for UCONN to conduct its research is essential to its future sustainability and viability. Notwithstanding Bristol Hospital's interest it is in the regions best interest to structure UCONN in such a fashion that makes it an economical success. The loss of research $ as well as practioners to the region could be devastating to health care in the region.

Although I am certainly not a fan of the Courant, I find it interesting that Collins references Courant reporter Chris Keating for this story after he mercilously bashed the Courant for supposedly ripping off his wife's "journalism".

9:47 -- Um, I not only referenced him, I linked to HIS story. That's how it's supposed to be done.
I don't mind if papers link to my stories. I only care if they steal them.
By the way, the Journal Inquirer is suing the Courant now for stealing its stories this summer, charging that the Courant's plagiarism and unfair trade practices in swiping news stories materially hurt the JI. The JI's complaints are exactly what mine were.
Oh, yeah, and for what it's worth, there is no "supposedly" about it. The Courant admitted its wrongdoing.

So although you find it necessary to remind all your readers that certain Courant reporters engaged in "plagiarism" (a loose term), you still find that organization worthy of "linking" (for your blog, which is linked to the Press)rather than just research and report on the issue yourself. I guess your attitude towards the Courant is the same as mine is to you. You both are rotten yet not completely useless.

1:14 -- Though I wouldn't expect you to know or care, the Press had its own story about the hospital in Saturday's paper. I couldn't link to it on Friday afternoon because it wasn't done. Chris Keating, who's a terrific reporter, got the scoop. That's why I linked to his piece.
Really, if you find us all so rotten, go somewhere else and get your news. And good luck with that, by the way.

Steve, slap that fool 1:14, at least you have the guts to stand up and not hide like that wimp.

Oh you're rotten all right and bias on top that. But as I said, not completely useless.

"Completely useless" would be the way to describe Mr. 1:14 pm

I bet if I wish the blog HAPPY THANKSGIVING, there will be some wing nut that will have a problem with it.......

I have a problem with Thanksgiving, given the senseless slaughter of the native Americans over the last 400 years. I prefer Festive-us for the rest of us.

9:37 May sound intelligent but he's not too smart. I guess Bristol Hospital doesn't mean too much to him only UCONN.

Who is this biased and anonymous person trying to kid? Isn't he biased and anonymous? Calling the kettle black again ?

I think we all should be leary of this latest news. I said it at the debate. If UCONN and Hartford Hospital want this to happen it will they have the firepower and cash flow to make it happen. Bristol Hospital should try and work with UCONN and Hartford Hospital and see if they can not join in the group. I really believe this is not dead and could be trouble for Brsitol Hospital down the road.

Gary L. Graff-Lawton should be made aware that Bristol Hospital among others was in fact excluded by Hartford/UCONN. Curt Barwis has been fighting to be included and was left out.
He's also right to say that this could be trouble for Bristol Hospital down the road and that's why we have to be aware of what's happening. Not being knowledgeable is not helping !

7:37 I would like to know in what article was it you saw that President Barwis was fighting to get included in the UCONN/Hartfor Hospital venture. The only post I can find would be March 9, 2009 when President Barwis said "eager to be an academic partner" but no were else was it mentioned he wanted more.
