Will Ward run unopposed?

Three more days for the GOP to find a mayoral candidate. So far, the Republicans have nobody.
Without a solid mayoral pick, the party's chances of winning City Council seats decreases sharply - because the top of the ticket has a big impact -- so the pressure to come up with somebody sentient is growing.
Whose arm can they twist?

I hope the Dems come up with someone to beat Ward.

Remember when the Republicans pulled that Benoit lady out of the hat and she gave Leone a tough race, maybe even the reason why he resigned to take another position.

Can the R's do that again?

Otherwise, they are dead for years to come.

Thanks guys.

I am ashamed to say I am a Bristol Republican.

Two years to find someone: what have they been doing?

Wher is K. Johnson, and F. Johnson and Big mouth know it all Mocabee?

And where is the RTC Chair, Mr. Barnes? And his guru Krawiecki?

Maybe the Republicans can run Zoppo?

and the money keeps sloshing into Ward's state pension at a fast rate, his wife retires, no money worries, no Republican opponent....this is definitely the American dream for a guy who has not had much career success in life over the last 25 years.

Steve:
Use of word sentient a brilliant choice: capable of feeling and CONSCIOUSNESS.

When wa sthe last time a mayor ran unopposed?

Anonymous said...

The Bristol Republicans can be as pathetic as they are now and come back again next time if they have a viable slate (next time) and if the people that have been dominating the town committee since Mocabee took over are purged.

This "Ski" kid actually sounds like a relatively smart (surely compared to Terry Parker). But there's a few power freaks oin his district that may be giving him a hard time.

Heaven help us!

Stortz would have won.

Load up the moving vans.

Hey Gerry,

It's not Ward's fault that the R's can't get their collective crap together and I seriously doubt you have a clue what Ward likes or dislikes, but then you just gotta chirp about something, huh?

Anonymous said...

Ward is laughing all the way to the bank. Gets his kid a job for the city, his wife works for the city too. Guess Ward really is the fat cat.

When only 30 percent of the people vote in the election, than it must men most of the town could care less about who is mayor or even their elected officials.

Personally I think Art should have to deal with the huge tax increase he is going to have to pass on next year, which will be the cost of holding taxes at 0 this year. Good luck!!

"and the money keeps sloshing into Ward's state pension at a fast rate, his wife retires, no money worries, no Republican opponent....this is definitely the American dream for a guy who has not had much career success in life over the last 25 years."

And your point is what, exactly? Obviously not that you have the cojones to run for mayor yourself, or for that matter, give up umpteen hours of your life to serve on the City Council for fourteen years like Art did.

Anonymous said...

Ward and the rest of the Council should all be voted out just for using the 'rainy day fund"! Using that money like they did will cost us tax payers dearly!

Anonymous said...

Don't forget, besides Art Ward's wife and son working for the city, Ward's son in law works for the city and his daughter works for the state. Anyone else?

Anonymous said...

12:18 - another Ward butt kisser.

Anonymous said...

12:31, So what?

Not me? said...

12:31 - are you upset because you are recognized as being stupid and can't get a job on your own or just that you aren't in the family?

Anonymous said...

Heard the reps are begging Burns, but still won't talk with Stortz.

Convoluted thinking i would asy.

12:19 PM

If we can't use the rainy day fund for a rainy day (i.e. the recession), what the hell do we have it for? When the economy improves, we'll be in better shape to make up the deficit, however right now (in case you have noticed) it's POURING!

Anonymous said...

yep, daughter-in-law works for Youth Service and BOE

Anonymous said...

3:32

suggest you find out the real purpose of the FUND BALANCE(not Rainy Day Fund)

7:34 - would seem to me that you are somewhat jealous about someone who (in your own words) "who hasn't had much career success over the past 25 years."

for all of the sad sacks on this site - should have gotten off your butts and done something over the past 2 years rather than hide behind "anonymous" and bitch and moan now.
You deserve everything that you get and I hope that you get lots and lots more of everything that you deserve.

4:57, Your point?

In answer to Collins' question, who cares?

4:57 - which one?

If Stortz wants to run he has a phone pick it up!

The GOP has another candidate and its not Stortz, Burns or any other name you've heard.

Stay tuned! Ward is going home!

so let's see:

***Art Ward works for city and state

***Wife works for city

***Son works for city

***Son-in-law works for city

***Daughter-in-law works for city

***Daughter works for state

aside from his wife, I think all the above got their jobs after Art Ward got onto the city council. I'd be interested to see the other job applicants who the Ward family "beat" to get hired for their jobs.

6:03

Clearly you are directing your comments to the Republican Town committee!!!

Anonymous said...

Ward is the biggest blogger on this site and he is at best the biggest whinner.

Anonymous said...

11:09 Wow! Ward must be one influential and powerful SOB to be able to get all those family members jobs, even before he was a city council man!

...good thing stupid doesn't hurt because 11:09 would be in agony!

Anonymous said...

10:25, Surely you jest.
Stortz is smart enough to know that you (probably Art Mocabee) would just love to have Stotz ask you for your support and then say HA HA like you did last time.
It is clear that the party bosses don't want him, and they have made it abundantly clear to him.

I see it as Bristol's loss

Anonymous said...

And if the RTC wanted Stortz to run, they could have called him too!!

Anonymous said...

12:34 is illiterate. The post clearly says only Ward's wife had a city job before Ward became councilman, so it means that all his kids and in-laws got hired after Ward got elected to office.

Anonymous said...

AND THERE ARE A WHOLE BUNCH OF NIECES AND NEPHEWS AND FRIENDS' CHILDREN WORKING AT PUBLIC WORKS THAT WE HAVEN'T EVEN SCRATCHED THE SURFACE OF!!

OUT OF HIS 3 KIDS AND THERE SPOUSES (TOTAL 6) 3 WORK FOR THE CITY (HIRED DURING HIS TIME ON THE COUNCIL) ONE WORKS FOR THE STATE, ONE INTERVIEWED AND TURNED DOWN A JOB AT THE SCHOOLS THIS PAST YEAR, SO TWO ARE PRIVATE. PRETTY GOOD ODDS.

Embarrassed for you said...

Pretty funny how when the anti-Ward folk run out of stuff to bitch about, they always fall back on the same ole rhetoric. Do you people realize how many members of the city council, past mayors, wannabe mayors, etc. have family who work for the city? Bristol just isn't that big of a place folks. If Ward's kin works for the city and they're doing a good job...lucky us! Time for the rest of you to grow up and get over it.

Anonymous said...

"OUT OF HIS 3 KIDS AND THERE SPOUSES"

Gee, ever think maybe they got the jobs because they know proper grammar?

Anonymous said...

Stortz would be the best candidate to run against Ward, and would make a great mayor too!

Yah, okay Mr. Stortz. Shouldn't you be toddling off to bed now? It's after 8:00 PM!

As I follow the political discussion on a few of these threads, it became obvious that the Republican leadership WAS and IS afraid of Stortz.
The man bowed out gracefully two years ago, and to my knowledge has not shown any interest in running, yet they claim he is waiting to be "begged".
I have seen no sign of that, so I have to wonder where they are coming from.
But it does point out quite clearly why the Republican Party is in trouble, locally and elsewhere.

Bill, you don't need these people or that aggravation!

Anonymous said...

I highly doubt all of Ward's kids and relatives got their jobs fair and square (some maybe did, but definitely not all). Just because other mayors did the same thing doesn't make it right. I know some highly qualified people who applied for city jobs that eventually went to friends and relatives of current/past elected officials, and these friends and relatives in most cases were not nearly as qualified.

Anonymous said...

"I highly doubt"

Doubt away, but that doesn't make it a fact, just more conjecture. Let's move on.

Anonymous said...

One of Stortz's downfalls was that he DIDN"T take care of big wheels friends.
And that cost him!

Ward apparently learned from that.

That is the nature of politics.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Ward has no opposition.

Ward is his own worst enemy and the repubs are not taking advantage of it!
