Courant reaching ever deeper lows

The Hartford Courant can still do some great stories, but they sure are doing some amateur, crazy stuff, too.
Take a look at this story, for example, where a Courant writer basically rewrote Bristol Press reporter Jackie Majerus' story about the delay of the Main Street streetscape project. The rewritten version credits the Press throughout, which is admirable, but c'mon, folks, the Courant should have enough pride to go cover stories for itself.
If it's not going to do that, link to ours. That's fine.
But taking this approach is simply a farce.

Steve, you know that at least one person is reading the Press!

What is the bigger back story is that the Courant thought the delayed Main Street streetscape was important enough of a story for a regional paper to even rewrite. I think you said it before Steve, the HC gave up on Bristol along time ago. Usually, the only time Don Staccum writes a story about Bristol is when it involves a scandal.

I hope Jackie got a bonus. Her story was a lot better.

I agree that the HC, which I think was once a great newspaper, does suck! But to b fair, Steve, I've seen many a time where a BP reporter simply rewrote an HC story. I think it happens in all media all the time.

How is that any different from writing a report or reporting on an issue? All you are doing is reading up on a topic and reporting the news, or rewriting someone else's research while giving credit for information. Cry me a river...

10:13 -- I've never rewritten a Courant story. And good reporters never do.
They go out and do interviews and look stuff up and write their own stories. Sometimes, another reporter beat them to a story -- though, thankfully, that's rare in Bristol - but it doesn't change the reality that we still need to go write out own, not steal theirs.

I agree. You can't get much lower than copying a Bristol Press story!
