More than 1,000 petition signatures in hand, Johnson says

Here's a note that former GOP mayoral candidate Ken Johnson sent out this afternoon to supporters of the chief operating officer initiative (minus the time slots to sign up for):

Dear Friends:
The drive continues to get the City Manager/Chief Operating Officer question onto the November ballot. We had another successful week with a large number of people signing the petition at the Bristol and Forestville Stop & Shops and at the Headmaster’s Salon. As a result, we now have more than 1000 signatures in hand! Plus, with the additional petitions in the hands of circulators (Thank You Circulators!), we have at least 1500 signatures total and we are clearly past the half-way point. Thank you to all our volunteers this past week!
Our goal is to hit the 3000 mark this coming weekend. Therefore, we are conducting a petition blitz this Saturday and Sunday at the Bristol and Forestville Stop & Shops. Please lend your volunteer support to our effort so we can push the campaign over the top.
Please help! With one more big volunteer push, we can accomplish our goal!
Look at the schedule below. Please write back or call me and let me know when you can work a one or two-hour time slot.
[Note: time slots removed. Contact Johnson for more information if you're interested in helping out.]

City Manager Petition Drive
Stop & Shop, Bristol
Saturday, July 12, 2008
10:00am - 5:00pm

Remember to tell your Republican, Democrat and Unaffiliated friends to come sign the petition and help us reach our goal. For those of you who have petitions to turn in, please bring them to either Stop & Shop this weekend so we’ll have an accurate count by the end of the weekend. You can also return your completed petitions during the week to Ken Cockayne’s office at Brokers Advanced Concepts, 52 Race St.

Please e-mail me at
abuyersmarket@comcast.net.

Sincerely,
Ken

How many of those signatures were obtained illegally?

need to try to understand the actual interpretation of "legal or illegal" in the mind of ken johnson; i.e $10,000.00 scam of the taxpayers - remember the old adage of "no tickie -no laundry?"
kem johnson's interpretation is "take them to the cleaners."

Again,Again and Again I say you're taking the Lazy Route~getting people to sign as they're walking into Stop & Shop or wherever so that you don't have to explain what the COO Petition is Really all about, you are also Trying to prove Art Ward and some of the DTC Members wrong. And when All is Said and DONE and you Do Not get enough Legal signatures Minor/Cockayne/Johnson will turn it around and say it's Art Ward's Fault~this is Your Doing,Not His and You have No One to Blame Butt Yourselves!

Therese Pac should turn away any petitions that she can not absolutely verify were obtained legally. There were too many that were left unattended.

Prove it.

if everyone sees the petition all over unattended then why doesn't someone give Minor, Cockayne or Johnson the number on the petition? This petition drive is VERY controlled and they will be able to see who is leaving them!

I think the real truth is the union is starting to get nervous because they know the signatures will be gotten and this will be on the ballot. All your trying to do is raise doubt and try to get it knocked out!

I'm glad at least Minor and Cockayne are not led by the union leadership like the rest of them.

thank you ken and ken for all the hours you both have put into thsi drive. This is a winner!!!!!

Yes Yes the evil big bad boogy unions are at it again.

The laws are pretty solid when it comes to petitions for the ballot whether a candidate or initiative.

And even if the COO actually makes it on the ballot that doesn't mean there are a majority of people who will vote to support it.

Not for nothing if there are enough people and it does get approved what does that say to Republicans who can't get a mayor elected. I'm just saying.

You're so clueless and ignorant it's amazing. You have no idea what you're writing about. Please do yourself a favor and find something constructive to do with your time, like not wasting the tax-payer funded education you're getting.

This is a bipartisan effort. I am a D and I support letting people vote on it.

I support letting people vote on it too but I also believe that the rules should be followed regarding obtaining signatures. Just because it's a good cause doesn't mean that the rules should be overlooked. That's how non-supporters end up getting what they want. Sloppy work.

~ Seems the 3 stooges like the altruistic headlines, but don't like the grunt work involved in gettin er' done ~ sadly, this is the type of behavior we've come to expect from these individuals.

You say "the evil big bad boogey unions are at it again" but you don't deny that the unions are working hard to defeat this. The unions control the Bristol Democrat town committee (only a handful of DTC members have had the courage to sign the petition so far), and union members are working behind the scenes to railroad an anti-COO plank in the DTC platform for this fall.

Then please...educate me.

I DARE YOU!

I don't deny it, nor do I acknowledge it, because I have no evidence either way.

If your so willing to make acusations like you just did then please present evidence. Otherwise please exercise your god given ability to keep your mouth shut.

how come neither cockayne or minor are puffing out their chests with the numbers of signers for their petition - maybe a bit short?

Anonymous said...

Maybe because Johnson is doing all the preening.

The DTC is nothing but a bunch of people who are afraid of their shadows. Where they they helping clean up the West End

Bill Veets was there, so was Kilby.

What R's were there?

Anonymous said...

Latest status on the petition?

Did they get any signatures this past weekend?

Anonymous said...

Nah, Johnson was too busy working on his contract for the city.

The Citizen's of Bristol who are for the COO,Let's imagine that these Petitions(signatures) are enough to get it on the November Ballot~Have you considered what is attached that the Taxpayers will have to pay(if won) that Minor/Cockayne/Johnson have failed to mention:
1)COO is Paid by City.
2)COO Needs An Assistant.
3)COO Assistant also Paid by City.
4)COO to have an Office.
5)COO's Assistant Needs An Office.
6)COO Needs A Secretary.
7)COO's Assistant Needs A Secretary.
8)COO Needs Office Furniture.
9) COO's Assistant Needs Furniture.
10)COO's Assistant needs a Secretary.
11)COO and Family needs Benefits.
12)COO's Assistant and Family needs Benefits.
13)Etc.,Etc., Etc...Get The Drift??
Need I Say More...
If you Think that this Position(s) will be saving Taxpayers Money I'm sorry I just Don't See it, PLEASE EXPLAIN IT TO ME!

What you fail to realize is that both Ward and Johnson need/would need a COO COO.

They are not concerned about the cost as long as they make $110,000/yr plus benefits.

Either a Town Manager and no full time Mayor, or leave it like it is and elect the right person.
