New Britain likely to sell ballfield to Bristol tonight
Following a public hearing last night, New Britain will consider a recommendation tonight to sell an unused ballfield on its water department land in Bristol to the Mum City. The field, across Mix Street from the Little League complex, would be used for girls softball. The city would pay $50,000 for the facility.
Bristol officials said they hope their New Britain counterparts will give final approval to the deal tonight.
The state Department of Public Health approved the sale as long as Bristol doesn't try to improve the field. It has to remain as is, but it has fences, lights and other amenities already.
The deal has been discussed for nearly a decade but Mayor Art Ward and New Britain's mayor, Tim O'Brien, worked out an agreement over the summer.
