About the mayoral debate...

One of the benefits of having low expectations is that the reality of an event sometimes surprises me. The mayoral debate tonight was one of those times.
It was lively. And even though the candidates are certainly not going to win any eloquence awards, they managed to highlight their differences on many issues, sometimes passionately.
Both Democrat Chris Wilson and Republican Ken Cockayne said some things that I didn't expect. That doesn't often happen when you've been listening to people for a long, long time. So it's always nice when it happens.
I encouraged anyone who really wants to know where these guys stand to watch the video that Mike Saman made for Nutmeg TV to air.
The mayoral debate is slated to air on Nutmeg TV's government channel 96 at 8 p.m. on Oct. 21 and Oct. 27.
The City Council candidates' debate, slated for 6 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, will also air on the same channel at 8 p.m. on Oct. 24 and Nov. 1.
After a couple of days, both debates will also be available on Nutmeg TV's video on demand on its website at nutmegtv.org.
