Bobroske to get national award tonight

A former chair of Bristol’s Board of Education has been picked for the National Association of State Boards of Education’s Distinguished Service Award.

Beverly Bobroske, who logged 17 years on the city’s school board before she stepped down in 2003, has served for many years on the Connecticut State Board of Education.

“Beverly Bobroske’s dedication to educating the youth of Connecticut is without peer,” said Brenda Welburn, executive director of the national group.

“We are proud to honor her for her devotion to education as a teacher, her decades as a guidance counselor helping young people navigate their lives, and for her service on the state board, where her efforts touch the lives of students statewide,” Welburn said, according to a press release issued Friday.

Bobroske, who is retired, worked as a guidance counselor at Harry S. Fisher School in Plymouth for 27 years after putting in several years in the classroom as a teacher. She also served as a member and president of the Plymouth Education Association.

Bobroske was initially appointed to Bristol’s school board, but continued to serve after it became an elected panel until she opted to step down at the end of her term in 2003.

She served as president of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education from 2000 to 2003.

She has served on numerous education committees on the local, state and national level, including a long stint as a director of the Capitol Region Education Council and various leadership posts with the National School Board Association, including a stint on its board of directors.

Bobroske serves as chair of the technical high school committee of the state education panel, a post she used to help Bristol’s technical school survive closure threats this year.

Bobroske’s national award is given annually to a state board of education member to recognize outstanding service to public education.

The award was slated to be presented during the group’s national convention Friday evening in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The National Association of State Boards of Education represents America’s state and territorial boards of education. Its goal is to strengthen state boards as the leading educational policymaking bodies.

Too bad Bev stooped into the gutter when she ran against Colapietro (and this is coming from someone who doesn't support Colapietro).

Bev didn't step in the gutter, the republican party led her there.

O'Brien got the boobie prize. Is Bristol even a member anymore with money so tight for dues?

What a shame that contributions cannot be recognized without prejudism towards personality or political persuasion.
National entities recognize local involvement but the small minds of local bigots continue their negative onslaught.
Shame on these non-contributing idiots.

Congrats, Bev! You've always worked hard for us, and the award is well deserved.

3:57 Why, do you think he should?

to disgusted......I hope my kids don't use her as a role model. You can if you want but I don't want mine to.

With the current condition of the local and state education system it is mind-boggling that anyone would dare award anyone for 'achievement'.

congrudlations Bev! You deserve it spending your entire life helping kids find a brighter future.

I never thought I was a cold-hearted Republican, but I condone helping our kids find a brighter future, I condone giving an award which is well-deserved, and I condone recognizing Bev Bobroske as a bright, dedicated, selfless woman. In fact, I believe these things ought to be encouraged. Thank you, Beverly. The world would be a better place with more people like you around.

4:15 If you really cared you wouldn't be so biased. You should see what she stood for when running against Colapietro. Another republican puppet for Barnes. and a pretty poor role model I might add. Too bad those people way out there didn't check her out.

This is well deserved. Beverly has dedicated her entire adult life to education and the academic and emotional health of thousands of youth. Congratulations Beverly.

Bev for role model, take a look at her friends . Look at the energy they have with trying to belittle people but what you are doing is belittling your own party. You are and always and will be a big L Loser!

Hey dingbat did this article have Tom Colapietro getting a award or did I miss something ? Or is it just you being typical you. Useless and can't even let Bev have her due. You are making us look pretty bad. Stop before it gets worse.
